I watched the first season and I think it played out all the possible storylines
yeah I agree being a football addict is hard lol. some of the junk we watch
Just now getting to see it and 5 episodes in to the new season and it is really a lot different than anything I was expecting. So much to ask about why.
There's a severe lack of "EVERYBODY TOUCH SOMEBODY, OUR FATHER..."
In all seriousness, Jason Brown is 20x the coach Buddy Stephens is.
idk man. I haven't seen Jason brown actually coach anything yet, motivator (agree or disagree with his ways) I will agree with that hes better than buddy.
I agree. He is very intense and is apparently a great recruiter, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about Xs and Os. He makes several ego based decisions during the season that hurt the team, and he gets jealous when Malik starts calling his own plays and they are successful. Malik seems to understand offensive strategy at a much higher level than him, and he doesn't like it.
I think there was like one scene where i saw JB watch game film.
Teared up twice already y'all....
I work for the NJCAA. I can tell you that Iowa Western team they play in week one is insane and had a ton of D1 talent this year, however Jason Brown causes much less PR problems than Buddy does.
Just saw a coach at a D-2 program I know just call out this show on twitter. There were a lot of "likes" from other coaches.
Have a link?
No I'm personal friends with him so not going to link that.
Oh ok! Just wondering what were they critiquing about it? (Be as vague as you'd like!)
Coaches style, leadership, how players were acting and behaving, academics.
2 1/2 episodes in and my first hot take is that Malik Henry may be the most arrogant player featured on the series yet.
4 episodes in and this coach might be just as bad if not worse than Buddy Stephens.
This coach is an ass clown.
BUT HE GETS FIVE STAR CROOTS
Seriously both of the head coaches are scumbags and garbage football coaches. Literally every bit of their success comes exclusively from their elite players.
He is awful.
He talks so much about player development, but it doesn't seem like he takes individual players personalities into account. Screaming a guy off the field isn't the golden ticket to unlocking potential... I think he lost guys like Malik Henry mentally because he's a very 1-dimensional motivator.
Also a gigantic hypocrite (except for one instance where he took responsibility) when attacking guys like Gooden for stupid penalties. He sets a horrible example for poise, conduct, and sportsmanship.
Someone tell that to Nick Saban...
someone did and now he's recruiting these guys from FAU

Finished the season, I really liked it and found it to be a nice change of pace, just hard to replace Ms. Wagner. I really hope Malik Henry doesn't ever transfer here, he's uncoachable.
lol sounds like malik henry isn't transferring ANYWHERE. he had 0 d-1 offers at the end of the season. what a fall from 5 star top QB in the country to no one even wants to take a chance on you. I have to assume he will end up at FAU seems to be the place where ex FSU qbs go after last chance U.
He's playing at Indy again this year...I had to Google it so see if he signed anywhere. I don't know why a kid with that much on the line would play another season under that coach.
the only reason I could imagine is A) he has no offers to play anywhere else and B) TV exposure to possibly try and correct the ugly things that showed their head last season on last chance U and show that he IS a coachable kid that can control his emotions. all though I think B will only last so long. first tight game. first thing goes wrong. and boom malik is backkkkkkkk
Well this probably why he didn't get an offer:
Link Here
Agree on M HENRY. That dude is a grade A 100% C H U M P. Can't remember which game/episode it was, but they went into triple OT... Checked out of a 3rd and long then went back to the sideline and straight lied to his QBC' face about changing the call. But it's not his fault, nope, not one bit, it's NEVVVERRRR on MH....
We need to get that kid who made the hype video on the Hokie Vision team.
Lol, Antone Exum could have done it while he was here, his raps were hillarious. On a serious note, DJ Rhetorik is Logic's DJ and reps VT on Fallon and Kimmel and those type of shows, he should be invited to make something for us.
Definitely sounds more doable than #Gameday4Frank or Metallica live at Lane.
Hot Take: Is Jason Brown a better recruiter than Fuente?
hes got more 5 stars on his roster than we do.
He can relate to the kids on a personal level. The guy grew up in Compton, and lived in a car for a period of time. People always gravitate to people that come from similar up bringing.
Honestly, I feel for the situation. The coach is literally building the program with his own hands. He doesn't have even an equipment crew. That is a huge undertaking.
I felt like he was arrogant in the hot tube episode 1, talking about how he hasn't even looked at the tape yet, and I completely understand why as he is trying to secure jersey's just so the team doesn't have to forfeit. Then his team comes out and gets whacked.
He'll get that thing turned around though. The growing pains are there year 1.
well that's year 2 for him. But, as the season goes on his arrogance doesn't go away. he makes decisions based on feelings and not football IQ. Hes winning games off talent and that's it, but he has no problem admitting it. one of his favorite quotes is "players win games, it doesn't matter what play I call, if they want it they will run through a brick wall and score" I am not a fan of him at all. his coaching tactics are BS, its great that he can recruit but maybe he should just take that roll. People may not like buddy stevens but guess who won the D2 national championship last year. EMCC.
I think this season's Last Chance U did more for Buddy Stephens and EMCC than it did for Independence, honestly. I think if you watched all three seasons that it clearly shows a difference between a well-run program and one with little to no structure and/or accountability within. It also doesn't hurt that EMCC won it all last year.
I understand that Indy is just getting started (year 2) and that they have the least funding allotted for athletics in the entire conference. However, it looked like his prowess begins and ends with these lofty recruits. The Garden City coach had it right about him being a poor photocopy of a good JUCO coach...except it was a bad copy of coach Stephens. It looked like a very poorly run program from what was shown to the viewer and I can't imagine that many coaches will stick with him for long given his antics.
EMCC is a program that is a well oiled machine. All the small things are in place for success. They have a support staff there for success, they didn't have to worry about a weight room or locker rooms being built etc.
I have only watched one episode of the new season and it's clear as day that Indy is still going through those program growing pains.
As coaches, though EMCC has a hell of a lot better coaching staff, that understands Xs and Os. Not sure about this new coaching staff. After the first episode, he hadn't broken down any film and was going to wing it out there?
agreed, ruiz the QB coach has already left, I really liked him. I think one day he will be a good coach somewhere.
Meh, I think he was too soft to have long lasting success. He's one of those "be my buddy, help me out" kind of coaches and I think there is a line where even those guys have to take the kids gloves off with players, especially at a program like that where you are getting the bounce back kids that have played/practiced P5 football and think they know as much or more about the game as these JUCO coaches.
I get that he was the good cop to JB's approach but it didn't look like he knew where to jump in and be a coach instead of an ally/friend.
He's now an assistant coach with Santa Monica High School.
He would also lie to Coach Brown and say waxed the floor with Malik or screamed his ear off. That never happened, he barely even showed discontent towards him.
Completely agree with you, although the QB coach this season was Frank Diaz, and I don't know that that's who 904 was talking about.
Here's a pretty pretty good interview with former ICC QB Coach Frank DIAZ
clicky
I go back and forth on Coach Brown. On one hand, he relates to players, and goes out of his way to support them. He is literally building this program - building locker rooms, film rooms, etc. On the other hand, he can't keep his cool, sets a bad example for his players, and lets his emotions get the best of him. Dude is obnoxious and stubborn, but has good intentions, that he acts on 50-75% of the time.
Weirdly, I think I can relate to that guy. Like he reminds me of a couple of people that I grew up around (Not as bad, but as foul mouthed).
Having been around Coach Foster for 4 years, he gets pissed and curses on the sideline all the time. He actually punched my successor in the face (Not on purpose, but in kind of a heat of rage thing during the middle of a game). The thing is though, people respect the hell out of Bud, so when he screams and curses people don't think much of it. You know he loves the group of players he is coaching, and that's why he can do that. Probably the same with Coach Brown, except he doesn't have the credentials just yet.
Can't say I've been coached by Bud Foster, but I do think there's a difference between yelling about someone's performance and yelling about someone. Telling someone 'you don't get this' is different from telling them 'you're an idiot'. Good leaders may do the former. Coach Brown too often does the latter.
Yeah, Bud never calls anyone an idiot.
skipping this thread to avoid spoilers but 👀
was he on last chance u? I don't recognize the name.
He plays for ICC. Not sure how long he has been there.
Evidently played his true freshman year at VMI in 2016.
VMI bio: Kuony Deng
And here's a Nebraska recruiting article that provides a little more insight on he college path:
Nebraska Article
That sounds like someone I would want to pick up. A kid that went out and earned it.
If they have a second season on Independence CC (which I think they will), he will more than likely be one of the ones the spotlight since he is class of '19.
I don't know how he's been portrayed on the show, but 6'6" 231 lb DE with 4.60 40-time?
https://247sports.com/Player/Kuony-Deng-46056052
but can he play DT? I wonder if Ronald Ollie is available still. then maybe we can get miss Brittany in a package deal so everyone will chill about the support staff.
I really don't have many problems with Coach Brown. Sure he cusses like a sailor but what coach doesn't? Even the players during class said that every coach does that. He's a helluva recruiter and said it himself that coaching is overrated/he's not a great coach.
A lot of these players think football is the only thing in life and don't give a shit about anything else. He still tries to push them to get an education/pass their classes.
My biggest criticism of him, is that he throws the league around like its easy. No way in hell any of his players make it to the league. He would be lucky if 1 of them did.
Also, his practices look terribly run and disorganized. Frank's were scheduled out to the second almost. Browns are chaotic, even Malik talked about it.
I didn't hear him say much about them making the league but more about how he had a lot of D1 players. But I could have missed that part.
But, with everything you said about his practices along with other criticisms you may have, he STILL won the conference in year 2 of his stint there plus the bowl game win. Probably 1 less loss away from playing for Natty. First conference championship in 30 years for that team.
As shitty of a couch as people say he is and the lack of resources at the school, just being the great recruiter he is put them where they are.
that may be more because of the disparity of D2 than anything else. when you have a couple of elite talents playing against guys that didn't even get offers from d-1 schools. some of the things he says are right but only for his current situation. such as his comment about the play he calls not mattering if they want it they will go get it. ex. the 90+ TD run before the half he called. but that only works at that level, you cant come coach at the next level like that. what he does works for him. I don't think that makes him a good coach.
Well like I said, he never calls himself a good coach, just a great recruiter. Said he thinks coaching is overrated. Always thought he was a great/the best recruiter and thats it. He understood he needed talent to compete and he went out and recruited such.
With him saying coaching is overrated, he probably knows he isn't good at the X's and O's. He even said during some games that his call was risky.
I haven't finished the season yet, but he has definitely said this kid could be in the league, and that guy can be in the league, etc.
The guy can recruit and win football games, but he is not a D1 coach. For a job like that, he needs to be able act like white collared ass kissing salesmen. He is never going to be that. There are to many things that could turn off a donor. He fits right where he is. I would hire him as a recruiting cordinator in a heartbeat though.
Also, it seems like they played a bunch of teams tight in the season, thus why not all the kids got film. Which really sucked for that Michigan kid.
I think year 3 or 4 they will be really good. None of the crap you see in the early episodes will be a barrier.
Now that I think of it, I do remember him saying this kid could be in the league right now. Probably hyperbole but also trying to get the kid a D-1 scholly as well.
But yea, I am not saying he is a D-1 coach and neither is he. He said at the end of the show he wouldn't go to D-1. Apparently multiple schools has already reached out but didn't listen because he wasn't interested.
He said he started coaching at ICC because he wanted to coach D1 ball. He is just not that person you present to high end Alumni to suck money out of. He would ruffle a bunch of feathers and not know it.
But as recruiting coordinator... sign him up! That guy gets it.
Well I just remember at the end of the show (spoilers I guess) that he fielded a couple calls for D-1 gigs but turned it down because he realized that JuCo is the perfect spot for him.
Since Cams departure is so late he may end up going the JUCO route as he may not have enough time to find a FBS program in time plus he'll have to sit which may not help his case from a prospective program.
If he's on next season I'd watch, watched the first season and a couple of the first but felt just a repeat of the one before. So I'd consider getting into it then. Any real difference with this new season VS the first?
Any chance we could get that Kerry Buckmaster? That guy was as good as they come all season, he was nicked up during the season but I think with an actual athletic staff he could turn in to one hell of an O-lineman which we need.
That's a bit of a reach, he has 0 FBS offers.
Coach gravitates to you. It's hard not to hate him. But I still can't get over the part where he hadn't seen his daughter in 8 years. That whole episode was a tear jerker, but watching him as a player at Fort Hays St with his daughter, and then nothing for 8 years. I can't. I'm crying typing this. Fuck.
They have confirmed that the next season will be at ICC again.
'Last Chance U' Season 4 will remain at Independence CC, but it might be more fun the 2nd time
Looks like we will get a chance to watch VT target Kuony Deng.
Which means we will get to see some of that DE that just got offered by Tech.
...
if you reply to a comment saying the same thing in your comment what happens?
What is "Turn in to a UVA Frat Party"?

Johnny "doesn't drink" but when he does drink, he prefers to cut his brown liquor with some white liquor.
I thought that was his signature, so I didn't read it :(
At least you didn't ask me for the status of a deliverable by replying to an email in which said deliverable had been attached.
So if I remember correctly while searching for news about Kuony Deng, he is a big-time JuCo recruit, but it will actually be the other defensive end that will likely be the main focus of the season. I believe he is the #1 JuCo player in the country.
You would be correct...
In other Last Chance U news, Isaiah Wright (RB from Season 2) had his murder charge dropped and has been released from jail. No word on if he'll attempt to restart his football career.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2790090-last-chance-us-isaiah-wright...
And just in case you're thinking this, no, I'm not posting this thinking we should recruit him. He may have been a decent RB back then, but I don't think we need this kind of headache.
I watched the episode where they did a recap of EMCC and showcased Wright's murder charge/case. From what I had read and saw on the episode, I had a feeling that the charge would be dropped/reduced.
Coach Brown has resigned from ICC after coming under fire for telling a German-born player "I'm your new Hitler"
For people who have seen the show, this really shouldn't be that much of a surprise coming from him
Yikes!
