OT: We're #1! (at fundraising)

Coming in at nearly four times the amount LOLUVA raised, Virginia Tech is once again the biggest collegiate Relay for Life in the country! Link

The Hokie Club needs to hire whoever runs the fundraising for this stat.

I was thinking the same thing.

What's
Important
Now

So I was on the fundraising committee for 2012-2013. VT Relay For Life is student run with a bunch of committees that handle different parts of the event. We came up with a lot of ideas, mostly challenges competing against UVA or JMU Relay. We "kidnapped" the Hokie Bird before the Duke game and raised I think $20k in a few weeks. There was also a date auction with some of the athletes and the Hokie Bird. I don't remember the numbers but I feel like most of the money comes from getting people to sign up a team and crowd sourcing the fundraising. Every person who signs up pays $10 and has a suggest goal of raising $100 with different prizes and whatnot all the way up to the Grand Club.

3 schools in VA crack the top 20. I think thats something to be proud of.

Still phenomenal, but interesting to see the overall RFL fundraising fall off at the top over the past few years. I want to say we raised over $600,000 in 2014?

UVA is too busy "beating Tech" in the bathroom to give the effort needed for RFL.

When uva sees these stats, they'll want to "beat tech off - the top"

Beating something in the bathroom.

..did...

did I miss something?

Bronco wants to put hard things together to beat Tech, even in the bathroom, per LOLuva seniors at ACC media days.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

This is not a title I expected to see.

Excellent work - we've always prided ourselves in Relay for Life!

Penn State I believe has the largest student-run philanthropic event, THON, and have continually raised $10m+ each year in the last several years, donating the funds directly to the Four Diamonds fund which provides financial assistance to families with kids battling cancer.

Whatever the contribution, it is all for a fantastic cause.
