Bitter leaves and they implode. Worst offseason ever.
Better late to the party than never, I guess?
Damn... I had high hopes for him.
Rumor has it he couldn't crack top 3 for the tight end position.
RT clearly not taking AB's advice.
SHOTS FIRED
So I should bet on Illinois vs Kent state this year?
Mike Niziolek anagrams to Mark Berman
I've read two articles by the "replacement", and I must say, it is a significant drop in quality.
Andy has a great writing style and penmanship; it'll be interesting to see where the RT goes from here. But, IMO, a huge loss for them and the paper's readers. When reading their new material, I visualize Captain Obvious as the author.
Readers want insight and perspective, not just week old facts and regurgitating numbers. Have style, have substance!
Give the guy time to unpack his pencils, for goodness sake. And it's not as if Andy was universally loved around here.
You better hope he doesn't see this. @AndyBitterVT
What's he going to do? Beat me up and take my lunch?
Did somebody say something about lunch? Because now I'm interested.
I've got a tuna sandwich with your name on it. Please don't hurt me.
You must've fit right in with Roth and Burnop. Did you take Roth's place in the "Buffet Buddies"?
Just to be clear, I have always been an Andy fan and have said so many times on TKP. That said, I ain't skeered!
I think Bitter does a great job. I miss the podcast with McFarling.
Fair enough, you are right Fish...I do need to give the replacement more time. Onward!
I will admit a soft spot for writers of almost any ilk. It is what I think I would like to have done if I'd been able to hack the discipline necessary to actually attack it as a profession. I also have a soft spot for actual newspapers, hence my reluctance to immerse myself in today's passion for social media and internet news sources other than TKP. Just another old guy looking back too much, and not forward enough, I guess.
Penmanship? I didn't realize that Andy was posting handwritten articles.
Sources close to Bitter tell me his handwriting is horrible and almost illegible.
You sure you didn't get a degree from UNC?
Is that profile pic a head shot from RT? You better hope they don't catch you using that if it is.
Andy can you do what Brett McMurphy does to teams we hate?
So the real question is...now that he's making the big bucks writing for The Athletic, when's he gonna get that snazzy key next to his username?
I assumed all reporters did, I can't read a word of my brother's writing either.
Yeah, I suppose that didn't come out right. Never mind. Just trying to heap praise on our buddy Andy.
Hopefully, Drew Harris can pick up some of the lost running production from Dwayne Lawson
Harris still has eligibility, maybe one day.....
I Sy where you are headed with this
This can't be Goode
Really hoping this new guy just confused AJ Bush and Lawson, because he is just not that familiar with the recent history of the team.
I'm hoping he did it intentionally as a nod to TKP.
I thought he must be reading TKP for his material.
I found this tidbit interesting in the article about the new beat writer:
Niziolek's coverage can be found daily at roanoke.com, and readers can also follow him on Facebook
I wonder why he isn't on Twitter?
Poor guy needs to learn how to handle these kinds of things!
He probably doesn't have an account yet. Apparently, there are a lot of papers to sign...
I assume Drew Harris is also a Key Loss, right Roanoke Times?
So this is interesting, Berman tweets his articles, but he doesn't have Twitter. The real question is whether he's allowed to have a Twitter account?
I imagine they are still hoping to win the court case, then log into AndyBitterVT and change the screen name to MikeNiiziolekAntiVT and be able to take advantage of Andy's follows immediately. Hopefully if that happens, Bitter hits the self destruct button on the account.
If Bitter hits the "self-destruct" button, and the RT wins the lawsuit, they can come after him for destruction of property.
Best way to handle it would be to create a new account, and if it looks like the RT is going to win then start posting from both, and send out periodic reminders on the old account that he will be switching to the new account.
I don't Twitter at all, is there a way to send a DM to each of your followers, or is that against Twitter ToS?
crap! this offseason sucks
Another paper last week ran a story of the defensive line and talked about how excited the coaches were with Cam Goode and how he will be a freshman who will push for playing time.
It's sorta clear to me that most of these "papers" have writers that clearly don't follow the team or sport that they are writing on. And really, it's the same talking points that just about every other boring article has.
I remember a thread where everyone was hatin on Andy Bitter over some post game time dispute with Buzz and the bashing was real, not just about Buzz having the right to y'all to his team for awhile and forcing the media to wait but also how he wasn't that great and/or kind of a jerk. I also remember a thread where everyone's loving Andy Bitter over the exciting new VT Athletic coverage and him being the only thing worth reading at RT. TKP is so interesting sometimes lol
I believe the Buzz situation was mostly directed at Berman.
and at Andy's defense of berman. At least he was standing up for the little guy.
Welcome to every internet bulletin board style site
I'll always remember AB doubling down after getting dragged for taking Berman's side over that whole thing, but by the same token he roasted Berman and the whole newspaper last week and that's awesome.
Can't we all just be friends?
I see that RT went back to the well and got another former Auburn writer...
A Michigan State guy at that
What, Lawson is gone?
So what ever happened to Lawson? Last I heard he was planning to go to Illinois but there is no sign of him on the roster and no recent news stories about his whereabouts..
Transferred again...I believe to a JC.
Ouch, Mike Nizoliak needs to get up to speed. I wonder if AB gave him some "pointers" on covering the Hokies being that Nizoliak followed AB from Auburn to covering VT? Nizoliak certainly does not have a Twitter account yet...
Because RT promised him Andy's when they force him to settle and hand it over rather than fork over $150K /s
Not so sure they will get his account... And imho, Andy wins either way. #1 National media coverage in a favorable light. A personal social media account he inherited and built up as his personal account vs. a perceived corporate bully who is mainly just upset he does not write for them anymore#2 Roanoke Times (Berkshire Hathaway)looks bad however this gets resolved. Andy was an asset to the RT and sold some papers. I would not even read RT anymore if not for Aaron McFarling and Tad Dickens
Is this mis-information an attempt to see who is actually paying attention to the RT? A un-informed mistake by a new reporter or a nod to TKP inside joke?
