Are any fellow Hokies going down to Tallahassee for the big weekend? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or eat? Should we all meet up and take Wild Turkey shots before the game?
My group is headed to the gulf first (Destin), for the long weekend, then driving over that Sunday for the game. Does anyone think traffic from ATL to Destin will be heavy? It's my first time driving to the gulf so I'm not too sure how the traffic will be.
I just need some ideas for when we're in Tallahassee. How is Doak on gamedays? I figure the FSU crowd will be rowdy that weekend.

Penicillin.
ill be there. making my tailgate arrangements this weekend with some fellow noles but they are all good people. you are more than welcome to come by. we are looking to buy the parking in advance so ill let you know where we end up. To be honest ive been to tally quite a bit but there isn't a whole lot special about it. I don't know of any places to eat or must see things. but destin that's a different story.
Yep, I have Destin pretty much covered! Besides the high hotel prices, Tallahassee has nothing interesting that I've seen online.
At this point I'm assuming that I was not one of the hokie club members to get tickets for the game...
Previously, there was someone on the exchange board selling some.
Well, I mean it sounds like I'm complaining, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings at this point if I didn't because then I'd be scrambling to get accommodations etc. All I want is a yes or no email lol I might call tomorrow and see if the ticket office can tell me anything.
Full disclosure: I'm so far down the list I highly doubt I got any.
I called yesterday because I haven't heard anything either. Ticket office said as far as they know everyone that put in for FSU was getting tickets but couldn't confirm if I actually was, they hope to send them out at end of this week or next week.
Well I just got some butterflies in my stomach.
My wife and I will be going. We've never been to Tallahassee for a football game. Would love to get together with some fellow Hokies before the game.
Driving to Destin for Labor day weekend? Yes, there ill be traffic. Which day are you headed down? That's about a 5 1/2 hour drive normally, depending on what part of Atlanta.
I'm leaving from Midtown on that Thursday around noon, so most likely peak traffic time!
That's probably better than going on Friday.
I'll be there Saturday-Tuesday! Couldn't be more excited, heard there are some really fun bars down there.
Just wait for Foe'rensics. Fifth Fuller should give you a pretty good list of places to go in Tallahassee.
Trying to go, just gotta get tickets.
Traffic will be fine from Peachtree to Montgomery, where it isn't too bad. Once you get outside the city limits, you should be able to maintain 90+ all the way to whatever exit takes you south to Destin. Probably around Evergreen down through Crestview. Won't see many cars till you get south of 10, and then you will see all of the cars all at once, and the last 20 miles will take you what feels like 2 hours.
I'll be there. Driving down Monday since I live so close. I'll be the one in maroon.
You won't be the only one.
let me rephrase for you. youll be the one in maroon NOT doing some stupid hand chop wave looking thing saying ohhhhh oh ohhhhhh.
I will be in Chicago Maroon, they will be in garnet which sounds like a made up color to me. Get your shades right gosh! /s
Does it make more sense for Hokie fans to wear maroon (which might not stand out in the middle of the garnet) or white (to match travel uniforms)?
Not sure what the etiquette is... /s
all orange everything!
Insert "Do It", gif.
Will be down there Friday-Tuesday. Hoping to run in to some Hokies out at the bars/tailgating! Perhaps explore this pre-game Wild Turkey talk further...
I'll be there, look for the hokie in the VT santa hat!
I'll be there (from Hawaii) and I'm bringing my undefeated record at big away games with me. College Station, check. Lincoln, check. Columbus, check. South Bend, check. Tallahassee . . . TBD!
man I hope your streak continues. its one of those things you don't want to over do but I have an extra season ticket that isn't going to use this year if you are available.
LOL - wish I could. I will be at the W&M game after a quick stop in Philly to see the champs raise the banner on Thursday night. Busy week - gotta brainwash my 7-year old boy for life!
well there goes our national championships hopes! /sss
I am all the way on board with brain washing the kids! get'em right! anything to get them away from fortnite is a win in my books!
Give this Hokie from Hawaii a turkey leg! Traveling to the game from Hawaii! Right on!
I hope your good luck works on Buzz & Co. when they are in Hawaii this fall.
2019 - but yes I am planning on that too - much easier commute!
Maui, Big Island, Oahu, where?
I live on the Big Island
I like it! May THE STREAK continue!
I will be there with 5 other hokies, flying in Saturday, and hope to see fellow hokies downtown.
Do we know if there is going to be some sort of Hokie Club sponsored tailgate for the game?
I'll be there. Have a buddy who has club seats and I will either be celebrating or drowning my sorrows.. with the same end result.
And will also be putting my undefeated away game streak on the line, although it is a shorter list, it is still headlined by Columbus and South Bend.
Or stated another way - the only loss for the Champs and a win coming from down 17 in the 4th. Yeah, 2 quality resume builders!
As much as I love a win in Lane - those were both epic. Have a few other UNcheat and LOLUVA and even a Temple game on the undefeated away game resume. Hopefully it holds up in Tallahassee.
Looks like the AssPocket is headed to Tallahassee. Friend came through with tickets at the last minute.
If 2 weeks to go is last minute for you, I need to get a pair of the pants you are flying by the seat of. (Hopefully whiskey is included.)
It was last minute in the sense of trying to get off of work.
Tallahassee you say?

I hope the Hokies can come out and perform with as much determination and more of an appendix than Dwight did in Tallahassee
Got the email this morning...looks like I'm going to Tallahassee boys.
Update: just booked my hotel...looks like shit, but it's about a mile from the stadium, so that's nice.
Went to Publix today with my Hokie hat on here in Panama City Beach. Got some friendly hellos from visiting Auburn and Tennessee fans, but a Georgia couple was being held at the front by 2 cashier's talking about how awesome Steve Spurrier was to the state of Florida.
I did not get any crab legs.
College Football brings out camaraderie, even among opposing fanbases.
One thing I miss about Central Va: having. Access to Publix AND Wegmans. Finally, Richmond has worthy successors to Ukrop's!
NO SUCH THING!!
Never understood the love affair with Ukrops. Or Publix, but after checking out Winn Dixie yesterday, I'm never complaining about Publix again.
You must not be old enough to remember Ukrops very well.
Their food was great, their service second to none.
They treated their employees so well. I was 16 making 3 dollars more than minimum wage to bag groceries, got a 50 cent raise to cashier then another dollar to work in the meat department. I got my birthday off and hey paid me for it, on my work anniversaries they gave me a check for an entire weeks pay. We got to use the Ukrops box seats at Braves games, had a company wife picnic every year at their farm. A store picnic every year at a park. Had food given to us weekly.
Moved to Richmond when they were shutting down. Getting paid more than minimum wage for minimum wage work is awesome
4 Hokies from central Va heading down 31st. Gonna do some fun stuff then head to Tally for first time ever on Sunday.
Any of you guys gonna check out the Block Party thing they're having Sunday from 5-10?
I lived in Tally for 4 years, moving away about a year and a half ago. I'll be staying down on St George Island for the weekend before heading up for the game. Some of my thoughts on Tally:
Block Party is a really good time. It's catered to FSU students/boosters but it's free music and cold beer outside. The headliner for that is Morgan Waller so it should be a good show. There's a more family friendly version of the Block Party called the Downtown Getdown which is held by the capital.
If you want to stay away (you do) from the college (west) side of town and West tennessee St, Midtown Tallahassee has some good bars. Brass Tap, Fire Bettys (An arcade bar) and the Wine Loft were my favorites. There's a few other bars around too. And good pizza and a whataburger right there if you need some food to soak anything up.
Closer to campus Gaines Street was really being built up before I left. There's a few breweries, Grasslands and Proof, and some cool bars, Madison Social is probably the most popular.
Food: You need to get a Burger from Birds Aphrodisiac Oyster shack. It's a total dive that's basically under a parking garage. You get huge burgers and beer in plastic cups. The oysters are good too.
Harry's Seafood bar and Grill is outstanding for Creole food.
Everything else I found was just okay, nothing crazy to write home about.
I'll add more if I think of anything. Can't wait to get back to Tally and see a Hokies W
You the man.
you had me at good oysters.
I'll be there. Sitting with my FSU buddy in his season tix section. Wish me luck.
See ya there!
Good luck. Also a pro tip- bring ear plugs for the war chant/tomahawk chop. They do it ALL game. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
Also, I'm hoping to be tailgating the in Donald Civic Center parking lot. They have a shuttle that runs to the game for $5. Helps if you have a bit too much bourbon
Just got off the phone with HokieTickets. Tickets should ship today (Monday) or tomorrow - 2 day shipping. So for those folks that made the cut - keep an eye out on your doorsteps.
and for those folks who didn't make the cut - keep an eye out on other people's doorsteps.
We may or may not be going. Haven't decided yet as we both have to work on Tuesday and we're 7 hours south. So if anyone just happens to have a private plane....
I'll be there! Flying RDU to Orlando and riding up with my buddy who lives there. Anybody know of any good tailgating spots?
Bump. I've read that tailgating down there isn't too awfully easy.
Any guess how many Hokies will be at Doak? I've Never been down there just wondering
More Hokies then there were Wahoos at their Spring Football Festival.
Way to set the standard low...
Not expecting a huge number since there isn't a big alumni presence down there plus first game under Taggart at FSU. I'd guess it would be similar to the number we had up at Notre Dame. A few hundred strong.
So long as "Let's Go!...Hokies!" is clearly heard over the TV broadcast when we're burning the clock up 3 TDs late in the 4th, then I'm cool with that.
A few hundred in South Bend? That was a destination game for thousands of Hokies. You'd be far more accurate describing the crowd as 10K strong than 1000.
I doubt we have the turnout at Doak that we had at South Bend. But we had a large presence throughout that stadium; and I'm not just talking about the allotted away seats in the SE of the stadium. We were in the NE corner and Hokie fans were easily 10-20% scattered throughout everywhere that wasn't designated for students. (If you count the halftime exodus of weather weary fans, we were 1/4 to 1/3 of that stadium in the second half. Easily).
Tickets came in...sec 118 row 35
How much you selling those tickets for, old man?
The drive is going to suuuck. My hotel is going to suuuck. But...I'm pumped as hell. It's one of those stadiums I've always wanted to see a game in. And it's at night! Shoowee, gonna be a fun one, I hope.
Does anyone know of a good place to tailgate? Would love to find some fellow Hokies to take over a field/parking lot on Labor day.
I am too looking for affordable parking to setup our Tailgate
Ok, so no one is tailgating? We're all asking... someone step up with an RV and stake your claim. We'll all buy.
If not, I'll see ya'll at the bars in Wild, Wonderful, WV South, I guess
We'll be set up just east of doak outside the Airbnb, but a pretty small operation. No RV unfortunately.
Current arrival time is around 5:40ish!
Went to Food Glorious Food this morning for brunch, it was killer. Also Madison Social was awesome last night.
I'm taking a bus up from Orlando, should be arriving by 6pm. No tailgate involved unfortunately. Anyone know if there are any bars/restaurants close to the stadium?
I just got back from a week in Pensacola Beach. It's hot. You can't go outside unless you are actually on the beach or you will literally burst into flames. Plus now there might be a hurricane coming.
Just got to the Bdubs on Magnolia. Handful of tech fans in here...a few doing a fantasy draft so I won't disturb...if you're reading this, hellooo.
Are we all wearing orange? Don't want to confuse our maroon with their garnet.
Fuck that. My Beamer jersey is maroon. I prefer wearing maroon. Maroon is our primary school color.
If people have that much trouble distinguishing our colors from another schools, that's a problem for their optometrist to solve, no the rest of us to accommodate.
I'm wearing a white VT jersey, not that that helps stand out all that much.
I'm going orange or white. I want everyone to know right away I'm the enemy.
For those of you down there today/this weekend. How is it looking as far as VT fan turnout? We represented pretty well?
Seen a handful...until we head to the tailgate I won't know for sure though. Tailgate (hosted by FSU fans) starts at 4. Pretty weaksauce in my opinion, but I am not going to complain too much...it is smoooookin hot.
Fair enough. Hoping to see us pretty well represented on TV tonight?m, but will probably be difficult to tell on TV if our fans are wearing maroon in the stadium. Pretty close to their garnet
I'm hoping there are some Hokies there wearing white, in contrast with the Noles.
I know we will be.
Just showed up to the bars - decent amount of Hokies out but it's early. Walked by some frat boys loading up -literally- an entire pickup bed full of natty ice off of a pallet. Heard last night's block got crazy after it rained. Something about streakers.
Late kickoff = Set up for a crazy evening.
Heard from a guy on the plane we didn't sell our allotment. Guess we'll see.
If I was able to get tickets, then yeah I'd say we didn't sell them all. I'm ranked like in the 9,000s on the HokieClub boards lol
I didn't buy tickets from VT.
a) wanted better seats, and
b) didn't want to wait until the week before to find out where they were.
Just got here and sat down for some burgers and brews at Midtown Caboose. Been pleasantly surprised by the amount of Hokies I've seen in the past 20 minutes.
Seems like a bunch of Hokies out at the bars in Collegetown. Kinda surprised at just how dead it is in the lots, but it's been a ton of Hokie tailgates early.
In lot 14 with a pile of Seminoles.
I don't think we're far from you. Just parked on Airport Dr.
