A $600m stadium renovation that looks to bring Bryant-Denney at least up to par with a modern NFL stadium and player facilities, if not better.

They can pay that off inside of ten years if they decided to with the way things are going for them. And that's without skipping a beat on how they fund everything else right now. They are averaging somewhere near $70M a year in Net Revenue from what I have seen in different reports.

It's almost as if they took all the money they should have spent on roads, and spent it on Alabama athletic facilities.

That's probably in the works. Alabama does have a YouTube show on the football team called Bama Cuts based on a barbershop setting.
The amount of money going into collegiate athletics is bordering on ridiculous. The state of Alabama has a lot of needs beyond appeasing fans of college sports. There's gotta be some balance somewhere. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm jealous.

As we all know, Alabama shines in the national rankings for quality of education and public school teacher's salaries
Unfortunately, unlike college sports, public education has stubbornly failed to get better despite any amount thrown at it. It'd be nice if were so simple. D.C., for example, spends far more on education (per student), and ranks below Alabama.
I'm definitely in favor of the concept of public universities paying back revenues to the state if they are running those kinds of surpluses. They usually get huge financial breaks such as tax free status and actual money transfers from taxpayers as a public U.
I don't know enough details to fully evaluate this statement and don't intend to do all the research but I can think of a ton of reasons off the bat why comparing public education in DC to Alabama would be extremely flawed.
As a resident of Alabama, can confirm.
I feel like you'd have a hard time convincing people in Alabama to spend money on public needs in exchange for not being the best state in collegiate football.
Like at what point do you just stop trying lol. I feel like they know what kids will love in terms of facilities, the second a kid walks through the door, every place else looks like an old YMCA.
Honestly it's kind of ridiculous, but I guess when you live in states like Alabama and South Carolina the college teams are your pro teams, kinda like USC used to be in LA.
That said I would love this at VT.
As I was looking at it from just an engineering perspective, I was trying to figure out how much of that $600M is needed just to improve the concrete support structure for both buildings with all those areas that they are opening into wide verandas, especially in the basketball arena.
They do all that, and Phillis won't be able to afford to go to Bama games.

The video board is INSANE for the football stadium. They are literally becoming the Cowboys of the NCAA as their stadium is becoming more of a place to see than a place to go see a football game.
I can confirm that despite being an incredible spectacle, Atlanta's new Mercedes-Benz stadium is a great place to see a game or a concert (love ya, TSwift).

The roof beams running parallel to the long ends of the basketball court are bugging me out. Maybe I'm just used to Cassell but it looks wrong.
This might be something they look at when they get serious about a full reno of Cassell - rotating the orientation of the court 90 degress and changing the seating layout.

to put their practice facilities in perspective:
here is their version of the barn, pitched roof building in image above:
that's 2 full length artificial turf fields, 1 full length grass field, with extra field at on end, plus a 130 yard length indoor field. this also includes the 15 M dollar athletics only nutrition center (I believe it is located here, could be wrong though) and the football only training facility adjacent to the indoor practice field.
Our barn has a higher clear height inside I believe but their's is 97,000 square feet 5,000 more than ours. But you know what they say, it's not the size that counts....
You know what, just Fuck this extreme Alabama bullshit.
