2018 NFL Fantasy Football Catch-all Thread

Fantasy football season is upon us, so it's time for a catch-all thread for FFB posts.

So, I created the thread because I saw this in my (pre-draft) league.

DRAFT TYROD IN THE FIRST ROUND!

can we start with how much I HATE early drafts especially in cash leagues that aren't cheap. ive had 2 already. thankfully one wasn't that much only 25 bucks. the other was 100.00. I should have known to stay away from redskins anyways.

but I got Derrius Guice in the 100.00 one.
and rob Kelly in the other one.

I have a feeling AP will get the majority of the carries this season though.

every year I say im done with fantasy football because the injuries just mount up more and more these days. and every year I get suckered back into playing. im much more a fan of the actual drafting now than keeping up with it through out the season. I just hand my phone to my girl and let her do the updates while I complain about why she started so and so every week now a days.

Could you guys not have scheduled it later?

We once had a draft before preseason week 2 and people got screwed with injuries to some of their top players (like yourself) during weeks 2, 3 and (rarely) 4... Now we never have our drafts until after week 3. We don't worry much about week 4 as most, if not all, starters don't play.

Some guys in our draft can't make the live draft, they are forced to do auto draft because but fuck'em, the day we are doing it worked best for most of our league.

That is kind of my opinion and I am an autodrafter. My choice, I can lump it if I get screwed.

What's everyone's preferred formats?

Auction/Snake draft? PPR/non? Waivers/free agent auction? Keeper/not? 8/10/12/16 teams?

The weirdest format I had the idea of playing one year was that each team drafted 30 players and waivers were closed. So whoever didn't get drafted and broke out (this was the Thomas Rawls and Charcandrick West year, 2015?) just sat there in the "BEST AVAILABLE" pool without anyone being able to get them. We had a CRAZY amount of trades though, so that was a lot of fun.

I've been in a keeper league that's going on 20 years. 18 roster spots (+4 IR spots) and we start QB, QB, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/T, W/T, W/R/T, K, DEF. The draft is always interesting (compared to other leagues) because of the two starting QB's.

How many keepers, and how many teams?

The dual-QB league I'm in switched from 10 teams to 12 a couple years back, which really shook up the draft a bunch, but we've cut it back to 10 teams this year. There was one time I drafted a 4th QB as trade bait, because I didn't like any of the guys near the top of the draft board. It was a mess.

10 teams. We tried 12 one year, but learned that there was not enough decent QB's to go around.

We have three keepers with the system that a keeper uses up a draft pick. So if I decide to keep someone that I drafted in the 10th round, he takes up my ninth round pick the next season. If I keep him again, he uses up my eighth in season 3. It's why two of my keepers the last 3-4 seasons have been Hopkins and Cousins. I snatched them up a few years ago and they're only costing me a 7th and an 8th round pick. Having to balance the keeper + the round value for naming them a keeper is strategy all to itself.

Last year I drafted Edelman in the last round just to put him on IR and see if he would be keeper worthy this season.

I have never bothered with the live draft so I can live with whatever. I think based on previous years, there are probably going to be 5-6 leagues going to handle the interested people from TKP.

12 team league, auction draft, .5 PPR, waivers, Thanksgiving trade deadline. But only if everyone involved has a few years of experience.

Auctions are a better system because they're entirely fair and based on skill rather than chance. But they're no good for getting new people to play fantasy or if someone has to auto draft.

.5PPR is a happy medium, because receptions matter, but not as much as 10 yards do.

Only done free agent auction once and it sucked, because unlike the draft, bids weren't public. So you end up spending way too much on a guy to be safe, or underbidding on someone you'd have been comfortable paying more for. Fix that part, and I'd take auctions.

Keeper leagues can be fun if you play with the same group long term. And if you draft well year 1.

8 team leagues require little to no skill due to the large player pool. 10 team is decent, 12 team is perfect, and 16 is fucking varsity.

I'm the commissioner for my office league. We had 12 teams last season (which is perfect imo). This year we're up to 14, so I'm thinking I might limit bench spots on the roster or possibly start 2 QBs to shake things up. Thoughts?

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

2 QBs with any more than 10 teams is going to change the complexity of the league. Literally every starting QB in the league is going to be rostered at all times, and even then some teams (MOST teams if you have 14 of them) will be forced to trade just to work around BYE weeks. And an injury after the trade deadline would destroy any chance of a playoff run, unless you're one of the lucky few teams with an extra QB on the bench.

It might work if you sufficiently limit your bench spots, but then that's another major change you're making to the game.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna knock the bench spots down by one or two, but stick with 1 starting QB. You're totally right that too many teams have common bye weeks to make that work. There are definitely weeks where less than 28 teams play.

Is there interest in running the TKP leagues on ESPN again this year? I've participated the last few years, and curious if I missed the boat.

I have the #2 pick in a 12-team PPR league. Right now I'm thinking Todd Gurley if Le'Veon is already gone. Any thoughts?

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

I'm in a 10-team non-PPR flex league, also #2 pick. My top 3 are Gurley, Bell, and Johnson, in that order. Gurley was solid as a rock last year for me, and even with the rams going with split OC duties this year, I think the rams offense still revolves around him. Le'Veon is going to be a free agent at the end of the season, so he'll be playing hard to justify his worth. Steelers may throw a bit more now that Roethlisberger's QB coach is now OC, but who knows. And Johnson is coming off of injury, so I think that's kind of a wild card, but still a lot of upside with him. Most of the mocks I've been in have Gurley/Bell flip flopping between 1 and 2.

Its either Gurley or Bell for #1 and #2.... who's every left, take him. But I don't think you won't take too much crap if you take D.Johnson or Zeke.

Okay TKP, I need some help. My RB2 this season has been Mixon, who is out again with a knee injury.

My replacement options are 1) Kenyan Drake 2) Aaron Jones, and 3) Austin Eckler. Who do I start?

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Drake is a starter, Jones is a lottery pick in a crowded backfield, and Eckler is a definite backup to a stud. So probably Drake, or the waiver wire.

That was my first instinct...but Drake had a disappointing game last week and I believe had fewer touches than Gore.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

However, I've heard Jones is the one in that backfield with the biggest upside, so down the road his touches will increase.

Lol, in one league that I'm in, I had Tyrod as my starting QB, and Jimmy G as a back up....as of today I have Andy Dalton and Jared Goff

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Nice job picking up Goff.

Your avatar is creepy, BTW.

What's that you say?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I have 9 players out this week between two leagues. I have the highest scoring average in both leagues and lost both games last week. This happens to me every damn year.

Better waiver claim priority.

I've always found that losing a few games early really helps down the road, as rosters and performance start to shake out and the unexpected stars are there to snatch up.

I won my league a few years ago by picking up OBJ early his rookie year. There are gems to be found right now.
