It's hard to make out in this gif posted by the official Virginia Tech Football twitter account. I see the following ones/twos:
Offense
1. Quincy Patterson
2. Steven Peoples
3. Sean Savoy
4. Nijman
Defense:
1. Gaines
2. Walker
3. Watts

Is he moving up the depth chart?

Pfaff is in there, as well, but with Darryle Simmons on the outside I don't think you can make too much out of it.
Yea it may be one of those "constantly moving people around to keep them from being complacent" reps.
The fact that you can make out that much in that gif is impressive
This could also be a situation where they want to get him reps with ones/twos so that when he goes in for garbage time the first four games he doesn't look out of sync with the big boys.
Fixed it for you
HOLY CRAP! ONE REP! He is probably the starter against FSU and Fuente is just baiting the crimiNoles into game planning for JJ.
Tbh this is the same guy who convinced the world that a quarterback was a punter for a single trick play, so...
"And like THAT - my career was gone."
Another thing I picked up from social media was from Dax's Instagram account. He was icing his shoulder and talking about getting healed up, with a get well soon sticker on the story post. I really hope his shoulder is ok.
please no discussion on QB Controversy
so youre saying that Lawson is coming back and is going to compete for playing time?
I wouldn't read much into it. A good indication on whether he can hold his own is with the GoodvsGood; which is what Fu said he wanted to do for further eval.
Boooooooo
I came here for the hot takes and the Wild, unbased assumptions
Hot Take:
Year 2021 Quincy Patterson will lead the ACC in QB hype train and be a midsession Heisman front runner keeping Virginia Tech routinely in the headlines.
Hot Take two:
The Hokies will overtake the Ducks of Oregon and become the true bird mascot associated with high powered offenses.
I miss having a scrambling QB :(
Hmmmm.
Most likely that the staff hasn't decided on who they would turn to if Jackson went down. The decision to travel QP with two other non-redshirtable QBs on the roster is not one to be taken lightly.
I'm pretty sure they always travel at least 4 QBs. Not sure why this would be a serious decision to travel QP.
You travel the 4th guy as someone to be a holder. You only travel a 4th QB taking reps with the starters if you would consider burning a shirt. With a limited number of spots on the travel squad, you have to manage those numbers closely or you hurt your options on special teams.
Jack Click traveled as a 4th QB and didn't hold. It doesn't matter if he's taking snaps with 1st team or is a redshirt or what. You take 4 QBs. Three that should be game ready, and then a 4th for play calling duties and extreme emergencies.
Jack Click has already burned his redshirt year. Again, completely different scenario. I think he will travel, but only being able to take a small group can put strain, especially if you need bodies elsewhere.
Wondering why you keep mentioning a "small group" ? I wasn't aware of any restrictions in how many a college team could travel. The only restrictions I know of is how comfortable players will be on the plane with extra bodies. Trust me this sucks as I was probably the last on the list to travel and sat between two 300 lbs guys in the last row where there was no reclining. Everyone else had an extra seat in between them.
Wouldn't that philosophy change, though, given the four-game redshirt rule coming into effect this season? It might effect a change in travel habits, how many players you decide to take. Do you take an additional few freshmen that you might consider playing while still redshirting? You wouldn't have wanted to travel them before, but you might now.
Normally I'd agree with you, but with the new redshirt rules, CJF has 4 games to play with to get him some time without burning the redshirt. It's not like putting Lawson in for a single play to burn his shirt.
hadn't posted in a while, took the year off to travel the... whatever.
I'm thinking that Fuente wants to expose QP to as much as possible. He is traveling with the team and dressing as a 4th QB to get some experience to see what game day is like. I'm sure he'll also be involved in playcalling.
Lol. Poor Josh Jackson. He's already becoming the new Sean Glennon.
At least QP's last name has too many syllables to be easily chanted by the student section.
(While half watching the browns last night in a bar had a lengthy conversation about how special 2011 could have been if we hadn't burned Tyrod's redshirt at LSU)
Yeah but '07 would have been awful if we didn't burn the shirt
Sure there's that.
If Glennon didn't completely fall apart against ECU in 2008 Tyrod would have redshirted that season and been around for 2011 assuming he didn't go pro after 2010 (which isn't 100%, but we'll go with it for wishcasting purposes).
Glennon didn't allow ECU to score on special teams or to score three TD's against the D.
We will never know what would have happened if Tyrod was redshirted.
I enjoy the what-if 2011 with Tyrod discussion, no way we lose to Clemson with Tyrod.
That said, we were also a Matt Ryan away from playing Ohio State for a National Championship in 2007 because we burned his 07 shirt.
Fuck Matt Ryan
Bingo!
We would not have made it in over LSU.
We have this discussion way too often. At 11-2, our "computer average" was #1 (I think we got 0.96 of the possible 1.00 points), but only by a slight margin. 12-1 almost certainly would have bumped us to #1 in at least 5 of the 6, giving us those precious 0.04 points, and likely bumping LSU back about 0.01 or 0.02. I think we finished the year 0.06 points behind, so the computer ranking difference alone would have been almost enough to make up the difference. The voters putting us at #3 or #4 instead of #5 would have easily made up the rest. It doesn't matter that the voters wanted LSU in over us, the computers would have stated otherwise.
We would have made the 2007 BCSCG over LSU had we beaten BC and finished 12-1.
We don't beat out LSU with the same record ever, we do get the nod if we're 12-1 to their 11-2. We were close as hell at 11-2, and with one less loss more voters are swayed, and the computer rankings were already locked up with 2 losses.
"Quin...Cy. Quin...Cy" I don't think they'll have a problem with that
Or Q, P ... Q, P...
Patt... ERR..son Patt...ERR...son
seems to flow pretty well
You're drinkin' the wrong water!
Quin-cy Patter-son. Fits well enough into the Ty-rod Tay-lor mold.
Yeah, never underestimate the students section's ability to turn anything into a chant.
I remember after Reggie Ball was treated for meningitis back in 03-04ish, MEN-IN-GI-TIS was a chant
QUIN-CY ๐ ๐
Edit: I replied under the wrong comment
With the new redshirt rule, I expect he will play 4 games if for no other reason than for him to see game speed.
Its called 'edging', Fuente just wants to tease Hokie Nation.
I hope JJ has a good season. I don't want to keep having this same discussion every week.
Speculating QP will play in four games is asinine. He won't even play in one. Note:
1) He has only seen game play against Chicago HS football. Chicago HS football is not even good HS football, not on the level of Florida, Texas, Georgia, etc. He needs time to absorb basics before even seeing the field, even in "garbage time." You don't go from 7th grade prealgebra straight to calculus.
2) You honestly think Fuente isn't going to give available reps to the actual #2 (Willis/Hooker)? The guy that will actually be needed if JJ goes down? These reps are not plentiful enough to be given to your #4, they are needed for your actual backup. And yes, QP is #4 right now. He's only been on campus for fall practice. He didn't even have the benefit of Spring practice.
3) If you did give "garbage time" reps to QP, you really want to kill both the attitude and confidence of your actual #2 ( or even #3)? You don't think they would be pissed? Getting passed over for reps for someone who has no chance to play in a meaningful game this year and "might" only be a factor in future years?
4) QP is so green, these reps would probably not benefit him anyway. They come in September, against the NC schedule, not later in the year against conference competition when he's had at least some time to absorb.
Given his awesome upside, I hope QP is the QB of the future, and I hope he seriously competes for the job next season. But there is no way he sees even one snap this year (unless the sky falls and all the other QBs get hurt).
QP will play in 4 games this season and before he leaves Tech, he'll lead us to a natty.
Sorry. Couldn't help it after reviewing your stellar posting history.
More like "MrBuzzkill", amirite?
Quincy Patterson once stopped an armed robbery in Texas with only a football....from Chicago.
Quincy Patterson once threw 12 touchdowns in one game.....blindfolded!
Quincy Patterson thinks Jarrett Boykins glove size is small.
Quincy Patterson thinks Tom Brady plays in the Pop Warner league.
Quincy Paterson called Tom Brady at the beginning of the season to wish him good luck
Quincy Patterson can slam a revolving door.
QP can throw a football over them mountains

Quincy Pattersons play action is so good, it even fools the ball.
On Quincy Patterson's first day, Sam Rogers met him at the fifty yard line and they shook hands. The impact immediately ruptured Webb's Achilles.
I'll take that bet...at least 1 snap.
Okay MrBuzzcut, feel free to make at least a nominal donation to the Hurricane Michael relief organization of your choice.
I'll take that bet, too. He'll see every snap this year from the sideline, while wearing a ballcap and holding a clipboard.
Bring it on... I'm ready...
If we beat FSU, we might as well let JJ rest the next 3 games and let Quincy get some experience and start versus William and Mary, ECU, and ODU. That way JJ is healthy for the bulk of the schedule and QP gets reps in.
