No single coach in FBS college football has held their position longer than Foster, who arrived at Tech in 1987 and has firmly established himself as the standard for defensive coordinators in college football since taking over that role solo in 1996. Since that time, Tech ranks No. 1 in college football in sacks (813), sack yards (5,573), interceptions (373) and third-down defense (31.2%).
There is zero reason Bud Foster shouldn't be a first ballot HOFer. Last night was just one small example of what he has done.

Who is out there arguing that he should not be in the HOF?
The hall of fame itself. Assistants are NOT eligible.
I didn't see anything in the article that said assistants were not eligible, just that none had been enshrined. I am a little surprised by that as there have been other long time assistants with a pile of success, FSU's own Mickey Andrews is one that comes to mind.

God that's fucking stupid. How many great coordinators and position coaches have been ignored over the years? Dabo Swinney is probably a lock for the HoF, and does anyone think he did this all on his own?
Monty Kiffen is a good example
They haven't been enshrined because its literally a qualification for the hall of fame to be a head coach.
I know these things now, but my quick google search did not bring it up.
Then we will have to make him head coach for his final bowl game... stupid rules only require a little creativity.
[EDIT] Damn 10 year requirement!
Maybe Tech can sign him for a one day head coaching gig to classify him as a head coach and back door him into the HOF.
My bad, I didn't read all the comments before commenting.... ↑ what he said ↑
Well, the committee members for one. He's not eligible.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Football_Hall_of_Fame#Criteria_for...
Or from the CFB HoF site itself:
https://www.cfbhall.com/about/selection-process/
Coordinators are not eligible at this time, it seems.
So what we need to do is to start a campaign, at the next game, for Bud into the HoF. Something similar to the Hurd for Heisman campaign. That was a bit whimsical, but it still got picked up and was talked about some in national media. This, being more serious, might get picked up as well. And if they're talking about, that might get some people thinking seriously about it.
We can do this, people. Can anybody sitting in a first row get a banner to hang over the edge?
He gets a statue.
Downside: A statue of Bud Foster may frighten children and prospective recruits.
IT ALREADY EXISTS
Mother Nature has a pretty impressive one as well.

I see your mountain, and raise you a 700' tall, 300 mile long ice wall

*whispers*
He also deserves a head coaching job.
Unfortunately, that ship has likely sailed. He'll just have to settle for arguably being the best and most consistent DC the college game has ever seen.
I dont know...
hes let up a couple first downs, are you sure we should be giving him a pass for those?
someone needs to photoshop a picture of the score and total yards of all the games where a Bud Foster defense has train-wrecked an opponent. It will be long. And I would like to post it every time someone thinks his body or play calling should be questioned..
Bud Foster. College FB's Jim Johnson.
I believe there's kudos and respect in order though to a man who can be that good at what he does, swallow his pride, stay loyal, and continue to do his job without getting lazy.
Oh hey Captain Obvious
I've watched a lot of Hokie football and that may have been his masterpiece. Unreal performance with the number of unknowns on defense. I'm stunned actually.
Right up there with OSU 2014.
Could it be possible that Without CBF CJF could be 0'fer in his 3 years
I saw it first hand one night in Cbus, Ohio. Threw that Bear Front at OSU and they were completely baffled on the OL and never did adjust to it. Other DC's tried it that year against the Buckeyes, but couldn't replicate the results. He beats you with motivation and development of players, but he will also scheme you to death. That's a hall of fame quality non-head coach imo.
F$U is tied for dead last in scoring for FBS schools. LAST!
Probably first in turnovers, last in turnover margin at this point too.
Bud and co. put on a clinic last night. A lot of loud and proud yelling could be heard in and surrounding my home.
Yup. We are +5, they are -5.
Amazing how that symmetry works.
It's actually a little surprising to me that no team was shut out in week 1.
Let's make this a thing: I propose a hashtag: #StickHimIn as the rally cry for getting FosterHOF
" Since that time, Tech ranks No. 1 in college football in sacks (813), sack yards (5,573), interceptions (373) and third-down defense (31.2%)."
I love that we do NOT have a gimmicky turnover chain/trophy/throne. I think it's because Bud Foster has the same philosophy as Vince Lombardi did- we EXPECT turnovers to happen every game so we don't have to hype each individual one-we just let the numbers stand on their own. The Lunch Pail is the only symbol we have or need-hard work every day every time! Beamerball has not just been about special teams or turnovers-it's the philosophy that EVERY part of the team helps SCORE-offense,defense AND special teams. And Fuente and Company are continuing that tradition!
If that defensive performance wasn't the epitome of the "Next man up" attitude, then I don't know what is.
With how bad our off season was with early departures, injuries, suspensions, etc, one could argue that was Bud's best defensive strategy output.
I'm not sure what the reaction to what I'm about to say will be, but here it goes.
I do not believe Beamer deserves a statue without Foster in the same statue. Beamer's career, his legacy, isn't the same without Foster and I can't imagine a shrine that doesn't include both of them. VT has already named a road after Beamer, an honorary number, etc. The shrine SHOULD include Foster.
Actually, it should be this:
Agreed. It's almost like some keyplay member posted about this a while back.
Or maybe the best way to make this happen was suggested by an intrepid equine.
Just happened to be browsing
Satan's anusTheSabre, and saw this gem knowing I had to share....Well, I guess we know one town that wouldn't back the HoF push...
Not sure what Dirtiness they are referring to.
I've rooted for dirty players over the years, it's something a fan base will even embrace: Seems like every great hockey team has a heel. The Legion of Boom rode that thin line of clean/dirty.
However, I just don't get Bud being called dirty.
This is in a comment thread about our "fake" injuries
I always go with: If your offense can be stopped by a guy grabbing his shin for 30 seconds.... might be time to get a new offense.
I think it was 2010 when a decent Cal team almost beat the mighty Oregon by faking injuries almost every play: final score 15-13.
Judging from some of the other comments in that thread, they might think that Foster ordered the team to dive at some of their players knees in 2012, or something?
They mixed up Tech's and Offense/Defense
To the dufi over there...

They know Bud Foster is a football coach, right? Is there a lacrosse coach named Bud Foster? Why would UVA fans even have an opinion on a football question?
They thought this was dirty too.
Also, with the new targeting rules, isn't every DC telling players to go low?
Watching College Football Live... they're commenting on things they learned this weekend and continued to talk about how Bud being the best there is. Love all of the praise he's getting.
the CFB HOF rules never mentioned anything about associate Head Coaches
QUALIFIED!
What if we name him co-head coach for a game? No change in duties, etc, just to honor him. Would it make him eligible?
Has to be a HC for a minimum of 10 years
