I used to watch with my dad too. In fact, his nickname for me is Fred, yes, after the basset hound, and I don't think he's used my actual name in about 15 years.

Bill Dance releasing Jerry Reed's biggest bass ever while Reed wasn't paying attention was the single greatest moment of ESPN in the 80s. And Jerry Reed was in a movie with Burt Reynolds.

Well, darn. As a new junkie, I usually know most stuff when it happens. TKP informed me first on this one. I'm sad, he was a funny guy who never seemed to take himself too seriously, though he was a really good actor. Definitely a Florida guy, I'm sure they'll mourn his passing.

Burt was a 5 star dude. Some of his best work wasn't even work; his Tonight Show appearances were some of the funniest things on tv, especially if Dom DeLuise was on with him. He had a great chemistry with Johnny Carson, and superb comic timing. And the Bandit was single handedly responsible for an increase in Firebird sales. RIP to one of my favorites.
EDIT: This is probably the most famous of his appearances on the Tonight Show

One of my friends, an actor, had this to say about Burt Reynolds:
I have a great Burt Reynold's memory. I was working on the movie "The Hollywood Sign." I was playing a producer. We were filming in the parking lot next to the Santa Monica pier. As I was walking across the lot toward the production trailers, I saw someone throwing a football to people as they showed up. I was next. I still couldn't make out who it was -- it was that far away. He threw it to me. It was on a rope almost too fast for me to react. I caught it -- amazingly enough. It was Burt Reynolds passing. My hands stung for a week.

I remember when Smokey and the Bandit came out, and ALL the ladies, myself included, had a crush on Burt. He will be missed.

Another of the stars of my youth has moved on. Bandit, Stoker, etc you will be missed.
Are you implying that Willie Taggart is responsible for Burt Reynolds death? Because I dont think we need any reason to hate him more.
Also count me in for Smokey and Bandit with dad. Burt was great.
Smokey & the Bandit playing in our limo on the way to our wedding reception ('02). Never forget that.
And Coors really is that important. It's the ONLY domestic worth a damn.
Until you Head for the Mountains for the first time.
I'm sure they still serve Coors in the mountains. After all, it's sourced from there.
Willie Taggert thinks Burt Reynolds is faking his death
This deserves a LOT more legs...a LOT!
