Probably start with Duke v NW until the Hokies kick.

21-7 Duke at the half.

21-7 Duke at the end.

I love how much A&M hates Texas.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I have a good friend who is a hardcore Aggie alumnus and fan, the hate is very real for him. Makes my dislike for loluva seem pretty weak. Does remind me of the blue collar vs blue blood nature of our rivalry too.

Texas has been relevant this century, so it makes sense that their hatred is fresher.

Don't give up on your dreams.

Crazy ass game.

Did you know he has 2020 Olympic aspirations? /s

Also GT is dropping dimes in the passing game again

Horrible call in the Kansas State game, QB absolutely fumbled but the hit moved his arm forward, he was absolutely not throwing the ball before the hit and it should have been a fumble. Several bad calls in this game so far, gives me pause thinking about these bad calls being made against the Hokies in future games.

NCSU and Wake struggling early with FCS teams?

Has FCS gotten stronger or has the ACC gotten weaker?

The ACC was bad last year and might be even worse this year. We are the free ticket to the playoff for Clemson conference.

Tulane would have beaten Wake last game if not for penalties at the end of regulation and in OT. NC State struggled last week too, less than 100 rushing yards in that game against JMU.

The ACC would benefit from having two strong teams... One in each division. Hopefully VT can complement Clemson. The rest of the league can be mediocre but as long as either Clemson or VT make it to the playoff each year nothing else matters

Onward and upward

I definitely also hope we become that 2nd strong team.

Well Miami shit the bed against lsu so they better not be that team this year. I just hope we beat ND and win the coastal. That loss to GT will hurt but making it to Charlotte will be pretty great

Onward and upward

I think it'd be beneficial to have 2 good teams in each division. Tech, Clemson, FSU and Miami with a handful of above average teams like Duke, GT and Louisville for example that will win OOC P5 games like this Duke and Northwestern game. That way we have elite teams for conference championship and won't be knocked for playing a bunch of doormats. The SEC and even the BIG10 that benefit even when there's a clear 1-2 teams that are top 10 but they still have to compete in their conference.

Fugazy

This is definitely ideal, we are just pretty far off from this at the moment.

Every team in the SEC West has had a season where they finished in the top 10 in the last decade, except Miss St whose highest finish was #11 but they have been consistently good.

We aren't going to ever be at that level given too many ACC schools lacking commitment to football both from the schools and fanbases, but we can realistically get to a point where VT and Miami are both consistently strong, and FSU and Clemson are consistently strong with occasional strong appearances from other teams in each division.

Duke's Jones looks good early running their RPO plays.

Will

He looks real comfortable out there. I hope we don't sleep on them in the slightest.

GT D not looking good right now. Had a pick on USF's 1st possession, but in the other 2 possessions, USF has moved the ball easily, though they came away with no points on a 4th and goal from the 1 (dropped pass + OPI).

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

Dook is looking really good. That one's going to be tough.

They are dominating the game and the limited amount I have watched they have executed very well. Daniel Jones is looking good today

Don't give up on your dreams.

Hell, it even worked for Kansas.

USF GT has been the most exciting game. USF ran two kicks back and the offense has been moving the ball well. We might get to see chinballs catch an L today.

They're leaving points on the field though. Hope that it doesn't come back to bite them.

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

It's painful to admit, but I'd rather see GT win their non-conference games and then poo the bed in conference play.

If we are looking ahead to ND, I think Duke will most definitely beat us.

uva sucks

This cannot be understated.

Starting Monday night, EVERYONE immediately started looking at that 10/6 game with the Irish in Lane, but we will need our best game - especially on defense - to beat this Duke team. Lots of veterans, Jones is a smart, sneaky good QB with some decent weapons, and you know they'll be well-coached.

the numbers donโ€™t lie and they spell disaster

I'm glad they're looking good early, rather than ambushing us. We will have a lot of good video to work with, but more importantly, it will be easy for the coaches to convince our guys to take Duke seriously.

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

It's not going to be the same Duke team with out Jones though.

Very true. At least we'll get a two-week look at the backup so we know what to expect.

That GT defense definietly looks weak against quick throws and good timing. Putting them really off balance and that's opening up the running game for them.

Fugazy

GT is going to lose

Good chance Purdue is about to drop one to Eastern Michigan too

Unc had a nice run, but ECU kept them to a field goal and now the ECU offense is in full control.

UNC may be a cupcake again this year..

both defenses look like hot garbage

Neither offense is too inspiring either. Wide open catches which point more to defense than offense. Ball carrier are going down pretty easy at first contact and the line play is mediocre at best.

Leon Lett's Thanksgiving day blunder is so much worse than the Super Bowl chase down. At least the Bills player busted his ass to make that play happen, the field goal fuckup was all mental mistakes. Makes me sick thinking about that play.

One of my fondest memories of my grandfather was watching the Thanksgiving Day Blunder and analyzing the rules and the play over and over again, and then just laughing at how dumb Leon Lett was to come in and try to cover the ball up.

Power 5 schools scheduling ECU is just the absolute dumbest thing. They're just good enough to give you a hard time and beat you if you slip up, but not good enough to command any respect whatsoever as an OOC victory when you beat them.

You haven't watched a lot of ECU under Scottie. When Lincoln Riley was calling plays sure. But they lost to A&T last week.

A&T is about to transitive property their way to being the 2nd best team in that state.

Agreed. What's there to be worried about?

Like every year, if the Hokies can find a way to win all their games they will be in the Top 4. Same with Clemson. Hell, FSU still could technically if they get their act together, their schedule is pretty legit and I don't think an opening week loss to a rated VT team would derail them.

What about two losses to a ranked Tech team?

At least we got Duke to beat NWern, and Clemson will hopefully handle aTm later. As much as I hate to say it, I might have to root for Pitt against PSU tonight.

Florida State is sticking to that 2010 ACC Champions script a little too closely.

Clemson is so damn good. It is ridiculous how much gap there is between the top teams and everyone else.

Thinking the same thing. I'm glad we don't play them until December, and we don't play Alabama until January.

They might run Willie Taggart out of town tonight. They are a woeful excuse for a football team.

That's a bad call. Clemson won the game on a bad call. That's a shame. I have little confidence that aTm would have converted the 2-point try, but they had the right to attempt it.

Football needs better goal line technology. That should not be a judgment call. I can't imagine a good reason not to have cameras looking down the goal lines at all times.

FSU down by 9 vs Samford and there has to be at least 3 FSU DPI no calls, so it could be worse.

I couldn't decipher the angles in the replay from the footage being shown.

I'd have had to let the call stand as well.

I usually like the "strategy" of calling the turnover to make sure it gets reviewed without requiring a challenge, but in cases like this, it backfires. The call on the field should have been out of bounds, and the replay official should have let that stand. The replay did not help much, but I thought the official right on the spot signaled out of bounds and one of the other officials changed it.

Well, whadayaknow.

So we've seen a kid start his celebration before crossing the goal line (although he got away with it) and two teams stand around with a live ball on the field. Two of my favorite things about college football.

Arkansas blew a 27-9 lead midway through the 3rd quarter to lose to Colorado State. Turns out the SEC West can crap their britches too.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Now where have I seen Arkansas blowing a huge lead in the second half before? Hmm...

In most games they've played? We were like the 5th half time lead they lost that year.

Legit question.

If Florida state loses this game ...does Willie Taggart make it back to Tallahassee with his job?

If they do lose, taking bets on who gets fired first: Taggart or Fedora

ACC didn't look good at all this week. FSU needs to win or we're really hear about it this week.

SLC

I'm going to say something that may not be taken well here but...

screw the rest of the ACC.

All I care about is does VT win. The rest of the conference can go 0-for life for all I care. Same with the NFC East: Washington or bust. The 'Boys, Giants and Eagles could never win another game and it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Yes, but we also don't want the ACC so weak the conference champ doesn't make the playoff

VB born, class of '14

Not getting the warm fuzzies tracking this FSU/Samford game. At the end of the day Samford's QB has 341 passing yards (as of me writing this in the 3rd quarter). Some of that could be just that FSU's spirit is broken, but you have to wonder what Samford is doing that we weren't able to get that many yards.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Heart, they played their guts out and lost to us, not very dissimilar to us and Boise in 2010. We also won 10 straight after that loss to JMU.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

Samford is running a wide open offense. We clearly went conservative in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs. Even with a 2 score lead, the Samford QB was throwing the ball all over the yard.

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

This game is starting to remind me of 2010, when Boise beat us two weeks in a row. Every time I think FSU is about to restore order, something weird happens -- penalties, turnovers, and now a doinked FG.

Hey guys...I'm starting to think the FSU might not have meant as much as we thought...

Which means we don't really know much about this team at all considering we have played two cupcakes so far and with two more to go.

Man, Duke game is going to be crucial. That will tell us a lot about this team.

One more reason we're 0-0 now.

Still, Foster is a genius, and we have some talented players.

Oh I definitely think we are still good. Great on defense. But man, seeing FSU struggle like this isn't nice. The 12 rank next to our name is scaring me.

But I agree, one game at a time now. Focus on what we can do to improve every single game.

I agree. I don't like the target on our back. Would have preferred to have stayed around 20-25.

First world problems.

Nah the best way to have a chance at the playoff is if you get ranked irrationally high after victories. If teams like Notre Dame, Florida State, Florida, and Texas can be ranked annually for no good reason after horrendous seasons then we should be happy to take advantage of it to move up.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Best way to make it is to just win all your games. I kinda think its harder to do that when you are overranked. A win against your team starts to become more and more historic.

"Just win all your games" sounds nice but only 3 out of 16 CFP teams were undefeated going into the playoff so clearly getting in is more complex than that. My exact point is that a team is more likely to make it as a 1 loss team if they've been highly ranked for longer. Beating blue bloods, even when they aren't deserving of their rank, helps bolster your perception and that can be the difference at the end of the year. I'd argue that one of the reasons Clemson has been included in the CFP is that they can claim a W over FSU to validate their ranking.

Also your statements are essentially contradictory. It's harder to win all your games when you're over ranked but if you want to make the playoff, just win all your games? If you win all your games are you still over ranked or what?

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Only 3 of the 16 CFP teams were undefeated... And only 60% of undefeated teams made the CFP. Twice, a team has gone undefeated and finished outside the top 10 in the CFP rankings.

I'm not watching the FSU game, but was skimming one of their comment sections and saw talk about their new turnover prop: the FSU turnover backpack. No, this is not a joke: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/9/8/17836398/florida-stat...

I realize we really want FSU to win for our strength of schedule, but at this point I'm afraid the damage may already be done. So I'm just going to enjoy it. Le Sabre-level implosion over at Tomahawk Nation: https://www.tomahawknation.com/2018/9/7/17833714/samford-at-florida-stat...

Ha ha. Comedy gold.

So is part of lethal simplicity to have the QB jump when he receives every snap? Setting one's feet is no longer lethal?

The backpack is to put this season in because its pretty much over for them.

I just don't understand. I get the turnover chain, it's such a Miami thing to do. I actually like that Miami did it because it makes them so much more hate-able. But a backpack? I guess it's better than the trashcan. It's times the these I think, Am I too old, have I lost touch?

No, it's the kids that are wrong.

Leg for deep Simpsons reference.

This FSU game is so hard to watch. The FSU line is garbage (like we all knew) with Samford d-lineman consistently getting to the quarterback. The offense is so simple that their outside receiver just lined up incorrectly and covered up the slot receiver who had just gained 30 yards, thus negating the play.

FSU is so undisciplined and such hot garbage right now, not that I'm complaining other than weakening our strength of schedule. Oh...I heard more booing when a Samford player went down, so keep it classy FSU!

so this is how Ohio State felt following our games in 2014.

Except FSU is losing to a fucking FCS team.

I assure you most OSU fans have no idea what division of college football ECU plays in.

Your point stands; we still have a lot to prove.

Wow. FSU looks pathetic.

I still think this is just a huge let down game for them but they cannot stop screwing up.

Also, Taggart looks more like a lost puppy on the sideline than any coach I have ever seen.

FSU = self implode! Wow, so bad.

FSU is number 4 in recruit rating aggregate for talent on their roster just shy of Georgia at 3 and they might lose to a FCS school. Football is a crazy game sometimes.

Miami won the "bakness" sweepstakes already this year.

#DoSomethingElse

dayum what a day. Coastal division might be worse than last year's SEC East. Duke is solid on both sides but may have lost Jones and Gilbert for the year. LOLUVA, UnCheat, Pitt, and GT are just awful. I think we would really have to shit the bed to lose to any of them. I think Miami is better than what they showed against LSU but still beatable.

On the Atlantic side, BC is probably the second best team. Wow. We'll see what NCState has next Saturday when they play WVU. Syracuse is decent. Wake is probably worse than last year but still better than most Coastal teams. Louisville is down this year. FSU probably better than they look...

Don't be fooled by Clemson's close game tonight. They are legit national title contenders.

Pitt looked good running the ball, especially in the 1st half. Kicking mistakes and a couple of other things let Penn State really pull away later though.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

It looks like Gilbert will definitely be out against us, and Jones will be out most likely as well. That is the best player on both sides of the ball, including a running QB who has given us trouble before. For a program like Duke, that is hard to overcome. Anything can happen, but I'm liking our chances at this point.

Yesterday's The Good
Kentucky and Kansas both ended longstanding losing streaks! Go team!

The Herm Edwards era in Tempe starts off on the right foot with a win over Michigan State! Someone should ask Herm if he thinks they are contenders for the playoffs?!
Clemson escaped with a win against The Fighting Jimbos - I think the call was probably right, not overturning it was definitely right.

Yesterday's The Bad
FSU needed all four quarters to beat Samford. Samford.
Pitt tried a two point conversion in the first quarter and failed, eventually scoring 0 more points.

Yesterday's The Ugly
UNC is historically bad
GT lost to a mid major, albeit a mid major with a former Alabama quarterback running the offense
LOLUVA

The ACC is hot garbage this year. And our only 'OOC' game is ND. We have been relying on ECU to be good for far too long.

FSU probably pulled a Jim Harbaugh (remember he said VT could get Stanford and Samford mixed up when he accidentally called the Hokies Georgia Tech) and thought they were playing Stanford and figured they should be losing so played like it.

Playoffs was Jim Mora. Herm played to win the game.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:

Damn you're right! How did I fuck that one up. Thanks, Beard fah-say

Duke and BC look good .Those will be two tough games . Still Curious to see how Miami looks over the season.

UNC is historically bad

I'm struggling to get my head around this. ECU just lost to NC A&T, and they were running WILD on the Tarheels.

No way Fedora is coaching in Chapel Hill next year.

Leonard. Duh.

Who gets fired first
Fedora
Taggart
Sumlin

My moneys on Fedora but if FSU plays like they have been and get smoked by Syracuse. I don't see how Taggart even finishes the season.

I don't think Taggart is going anywhere soon. FSU is sold on him building something and I think they'll give him a year to two and can recruit based on brand alone. If FSU continues down this path I wouldn't put him there past year 3.

Given a potential loss (read: loss) to UCF this Saturday, I'd be surprised if he made it the rest of the season.

Power Rankings for the state of NC:
1. NC State
2. Duke
3. Wake
4. App State
5. NC A&T
6. ECU
Last. UNC

How does ECU lose to NC A&T and then beat UNC. Is Fedora in a constant surrender cobra pose?

Was able to watch the ASU game in its entirety, and that's a good win for Herm Edwards. If he can have that team play with consistency, they could have a nice season.

Regarding Clemson-aTm, have to respect the passion of the Aggies fans, but is there a dumber "catchphrase" that kept popping up over and over than "we're gonna Win Bo with Jim Bo"?

Talk about travelling fans, half the stadium had white STATE shirts on, yeesh

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

Those weren't all traveling fans. They kept showing the group of 100+ family and friends of MSU QB Lewerke who is from Arizona.

Couple factors to that, as a lot of ASU games against ranked OOC opponents are like that.

1) Tempe/Scottsdale area is a great place to make a vacation trip out of a football game. Several years again Georgia played here and there were probably at least 25000 UGA fans here, not exaggerating.

2) Even though ASU has a massive undethat's population, it is very much a commuter school. There are 3 ASU campuses in the Valley, and two of them are not particularly close to the stadium.

Therefore tickets are relatively easy to come by for visiting fans.

3) it doesn't even have to be fans that are visiting. I personally know 5 MSU fans that have lived here for 7-8 years. Lots of transplants, particularly from the Midwest. I have more friends that are originally from Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan than Arizona native

Arizona is to Midwest (Mich, Iowa, Wisc) as is Florida is to Mid-Atlantic. Snowbird/retirement destination.
