Duke might be without QB1 Daniel Jones for a sustained period of time. Severity on the injury is unknown, but Cutcliffe mentioned it might be to the clavicle, which would be a tough blow.
David Cutcliffe said after the game that he believes Daniel Jones has some sort of clavicle injury. Not a good thing.— Adam Rowe (@AdamRoweTDD) September 8, 2018
Here's a look at the hit that knocked #Duke QB Daniel Jones out of the game with a left arm/shoulder injury. pic.twitter.com/CaVAK5hLcU— Shawn Spencer (@Spencer_NFL) September 8, 2018
Jones was helped off the field after being sacked by Joe Graziano on the final play of the third quarter. The Charlotte, N.C., native landed on his shoulder and injured his clavicle, but the severity of the injury will not be known until later Saturday evening when he is evaluated further by the Blue Devil medical staff.
"We'll learn more tonight on Daniel Jones," Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said. "But it doesn't look great, it's an upper-body injury."

Shit, I hope he's ok. I mean I hope Duke blows ass against us, but he turns out ok. Just not against us.
That sucks. Same shit happened to Brewer. Hopefully it's not too bad.
Hope the guy is OK and is 100% healthy against us while we get 15 pick sixes and allow 0 completions
I've broken my clavicle before, not fun. Told girls I broke it in a fight, actually broke it playing duck, duck, goose.
You made the right call.
Was it duckrabbit, duckrabbit, grey goose?
Alcohol was a factor.
A fight between you and the ground assisted by gravity. The ground and gravity won, as they have countless times before
Hell hath no fury like physics scorned.
Tyler, is that you?
Duck duck goose is serious business.
Pro-Tip: Never let your guard down. Especially when going up against Taizja.
how did you find a loluva practice video?
But where's the basketball?
... How old were you?
My usual guess is "old enough to know better, young enough to not care."
That's quite unfortunate, hope he has a speedy recovery.
... So who's their backup QB, and is he a dual threat?
It is funny how I can't stand Duke basketball but find myself actually rooting for their football squad. I'm not quite sure why, I guess it's just because Cutcliffe seems to be a pretty likeable guy and has done an amazing job turning that program around but doesn't seem to get much national recognition.
I am still worried about the Duke game being a trap right before ND.
Just think of their fans and the hate will flow back into your veins.
Cutcliffe is a total class act. After the game two years ago, you can hear him in the "Sounds of Gameday" segment on HokieSports YouTube channel telling Fuente that he hoped Stroman is okay, right after the heat of battle (and a loss). So similar to Frank in integrity/class.
Hope and pray that Daniel Jones recovers quickly.
But, I would guess he would not be playing for the Dookies when we face them in 3 weeks. 2nd string guy is Quentin Harris, rJr, played in 10 games last year, but only passed it 10 times. Ran 29 times for net 71 yards.
Yeah, but it's his non-throwing clavicle
/sssscience
In all seriousness, bummer - aside from when he plays us, I like Daniel Jones. Smart, sneaky athletic, but always has had the injury bug. To quote Mr. Pink, some fellas are lucky and some ain't.
I can't think of many teams in the ACC who can afford to lose their starting QB more than Duke. And Gilbert a starter at CB. Still need to play well, but I'm definitely grinding a little less about our game in Durham.
Ouch^2
I hope he heals quickly, but maybe returns after the VT-Duke game.
I hope that he recovers immediately from the surgery and is pain-free by today, but NCAA rules require him to sit out through our game with them.
Never heard of this rule. Can you elaborate?
Sure. It's the "don't let Duke be a trap before ND" rule, section B.
(It's not a real rule. Just humor.)
That sucks and I hope he has a speedy recovery.
That was/is the next game I'm concerned about. Anyone know anything about their backup?
Jones will miss at a minimum the next three games, including ours.

Good for us then.
If its broke...broke more like 6 weeks. Been there.
Yup, if you rush back you can have a good shot at breaking it again and then effectively being out the rest of the season. I'd like us to get Duke at 100% prior to the ND game but it looks like that's not the case. Harris did look pretty good in relief against Baylor though.
I broke my left clavicle playing football as well. Only I was in 8th grade, playing football during a snow day against what I found out were our local high school linemen. Big boy wanted to show off his 120+lb size advantage.
Hope he recovers in time to win all the games after we beat them.
Liberty crushed Old Dominion
Army crushed Liberty
Duke crushed Army
So just how bad is ODU and how good is Duke? lol
Something something transitive property
Ever played Rock, Paper, Scissors?
It's like that.
Their defense was/is going to win them more games than not this year anyway. Those linebackers can ball.
JGH- best inside linebacker I have watched on video since I started writing for this site. He was unbelievable vs VT last year.
Surprised there's been no mention of a guy named
MichealMichaelMikeUVa Killer Brewer so far.0% chance Jones will be back for the VT game.
Hello
I hope he's 100% healthy and ready to go on September 30th exactly.
This means nothing, he's practicing but is probably just throwing and doing drills. Absolutely no contact in pads, that clavicle even with that miracle healing probably can't take a shoulder or helmet to the sternum for a good long while.
Ricky Walker could break that thing just by looking at.
Man, I dunno.... I don't know if I would risk playing him against our DL if I was Cut. Yeah, its a game they would like to win, but our line has looked dominant early on, and the last thing you want is him taking a hard hit worsening his injury and knocking him out the rest of the year.
There is no way he will be ready for our game. Bones don't heal that fast. He won't be taking hits for a while.
Not a bad statement by Cut. Makes VT still give a little attention to Jones in the game planning and not 100% fully on Harris. I would agree though entirely dangerous to throw Jones out there that quickly after surgery.
If VT spends one second of it's game planning around Cutliffe's statement, there are bigger concerns.
I don't mean this in a malicious way at all, but if they throw Jones back out there ~3 weeks removed from collarbone surgery we're liable to put him right back in the hospital.
OW, YOU CRUSHED MUH SPIRIT!!!
I recall similar type of statements coming out of the Packers organization the first time Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone. He was on the shelf for 8 weeks. When it happened again last year, Rodgers was out for 9 weeks. So yeah it would be completely insane and reckless if Jones played against VT and it seems unlikely that he would be back before Miami (and yes, the irony is intended).
His backup Q. Harris didn't put up shabby numbers either. Not as good completion percentage but didn't turn the ball over and can run.....all at Baylor.
Not to downplay his numbers (which were very good), but Baylor is a very bad football team right now.
But they do have a Brewer
sounds like the perfect recipe for a dcwilson40 vent thread
Let's not.
we might get one even if we win by 40
This is a smokescreen statement by Cut. It would be incredibly foolish to play Jones in our game. Duke hospital is good, but they ain't that good.
Going to be a minimum of 6-8 weeks. Trust me, I'm a doctor.
I agree.
I'm not a doctor but I did stay at a Holiday INN.
is that you Bones???
Are you a real doctor or a TV doctor?
Hey Alec, it's Doug Mullendore! Once you said that I looked at your name and pieced together, hope you are doing alright!
