Good for him in making an impact on the field this year despite the tragic loss of his mother to cancer and his torn ACL last year.

That's kinda where I was going with this.

Lets say he wins this award, which would be an excellent honor for him. Suddenly that means he'll be eligible to have his number retired in Lane, but someone like Tyrod Taylor would still be locked out.

His "number" won't be retired, but his "jersey" could be. Same way that even though Vick's "jersey" was retired we still have #7 on the field.

He's good enough to be the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year, but obviously not good enough to be the Miracle Whip Comeback Player of the Year (which is the better award).
