2018 Six Pick Week 5

Well that sucked. Seems like it's a VT tradition to suffer a meme-worthy loss every few years. The most awesome thing is I had to work Saturday, and I left early to make sure I saw it. I'd honestly rather have been working that watching that disaster.

Before we get to this week's games, I want to give a special shout-out to oherro and smlltwnsthrnlwyr for both putting up the year's first unfeated weeks. Their performance must have been an inspiration to the team last week.

Fun Fact #1: Florida's averaging over 49 points per game in their wins. Dan Mullen seems to have turned around their offense quickly.

Fun Fact #2: A Starkville custard shop recently renamed its custom sundae this week from "The Mullen" to "The Lateral Move."

PICK: Kentucky exposed MSU as overrated, but they'll be fired up for the return of the coach who left them. MSU covers.

VT
Duke (-5)

Fun Fact #1: Not only did VT lose starters Josh Jackson and Trevon Hill in Norfolk, apparently backup QB Ryan Willis got hit by a car.

Fun Fact #2: Duke's win over VT at Lane in 2013 was their first win over a ranked team on the road since 1971. Glad beating us proves to be such a program builder.

PICK: Do you have any confidence in this team going forward? I don't. This is going to be 2003 all over again. Duke by a TD.

OSU (-3.5)
Penn St

Fun Fact #1: For as badly as Ohio State has beaten up on the B1G over the years, they're just 18-14 against Penn State.

Fun Fact #2: Penn State's having their annual White Out game this weekend. They're an overwhelming 7-6 in these games.

PICK: Do I have to? These are two of the most unlikable programs in the game at this point. OSU I guess.

Fun Fact #2: Kentucky is 14th in the country in 3rd down offense.

PICK: Feels like I may be chasing a bit, but I like Kentucky here.

Notre Dame (-5.5)

Fun Fact #1: Stanford came back from 24-7 down to beat Oregon in OT last week. It was the highest-rated PAC-12 After Dark game in 4 years.

Fun Fact #2: Notre Dame's opponents in their 4-0 start are 8-4 (outside their losses to ND). I guess their schedule wasn't as crappy as I thought to this point.

PICK: Stanford catches Notre Dame looking ahead to their biggest game of the year, and knocks off the Irish outright.

Oregon (-3)
Cal

Fun Fact #1: Ducks QB Justin Herbert was 25 of 27 in regulation against Stanford last week. And lost.

Fun Fact #1: Cal's ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2015.

DRINK OF THE WEEK

I was out looking for a bottle of Angel's Envy last Friday and came up empty. I ended up settling for Maker's 46 as my silver medal. It tastes better and is a little smoother than regular Maker's (which is already pretty good). The smoothness came in handy Saturday night after I turned the TV off around 7pm.
