Wow, really expected this to be a nooner. UNC is crap this year and their stadium attendance should be even more lopsided in favor of the Hokies than Wallace Wade was last Saturday.

I could be completely wrong on this but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the 7PM slot on ESPNU/ESPN2 gets less viewership than the noon slot on those channels.
I feel like people are way more likely to be locked in on whatever is on ESPN proper or ABC at that time than they are earlier in the day.

For the first time in awhile I have been hoping for some nooners and 3:30s so that I can get the 6 month old out to a game watch since he is ready for bed by 7 most nights. Night football is still nice to have though.

OT rant: I don't understand the concept of a birthday party for a one year old? Kid isn't going to remember it, but parents absolutely stress over them like if it's not perfect, Little Jimmy is going to grow up feeling unloved. It's 100% for the parents, but they won't admit it to themselves. I should also include that I don't particularly like kids and actively try to avoid them. /end rant

It goes one of two ways- I get to smoke whatever kind of meat I want, people bring beer, we drink said beer, few people end up drinking as much as they bring (because they want to be "responsible"), I end up with more beer than I started with. OR

It's an easy decision. There is no "lose" here.
We just admitted from the outset that it was us and our families. We had grown up food and beer. The theme was "birthday #1." Also, it was a celebration for the fact that we kept her alive for a year and did a decent job at it. So that was nice.
And somehow her birthday weekend has always landed on a bye week. I don't know how but we're 3 for 3 including this year.
So true. Between all the things that they do that can potentially harm them and all the things you can't control that can potentially harm them, making it through the first year is something to be celebrated.

No shit. I turned into MV7 sprinting to their rooms whenever the angel care pad alarm would go off.
We did that too. Although since we moved to Germany when the kid was 9 months, we really couldn't plan anything where friends were involved. Had it at my mom's near Myrtle Beach, invited all local family, arrived in town to throw it all together, and then head back. My wife had to be back anyways for business, so it all made sense
I agree if it is a family related birthday... I got dragged in to my cousin's baby 1 year birthday. Nobody to drink with and family I don't want to see/talk with.... It was pointless and horrible.
Two year old birthdays are worse. Because the kid either doesn't understand the concept of opening gifts or have the patience to open all of them (or both) but the parents want to anyway in front of everybody.

I think the question was more about cookouts in cooler weather, and not about during football.
Next weekend we are having a sort of cookout..... We are having Smoker Day. HokieEnginerd is going to smoke 40ish pounds of meat. Our friends are coming up and we are going to watch the Tech/UNCheat game. It's always a good time for food, friends, football, and drinking.
It ends up more me cooking outside on the grill and smoker for 24 hours. You all mostly stay inside.
That's because we don't have a giant house with an outside t.v.

This set up would be spectacular. Giant backyard bar 2 TVs. The pool is an extra, but it would not be a deal breaker..... Main goal---house with more space and a yard. If we had a giant backyard, I know HokieEnginerd would have a crazy grill/smoker set up.

Malcom does have a sweet set up. I could see HokieEnginerd having something like that. We also love Malcom's recipes.... I chuckled when he said his wife thinks he has too many smokers. HE has the grill and smoker going at the same time on occasion.... I just asked our daughter if there was such a thing as too much smoked meat. Her reply: "Nope."
I like how he had one made for competition but decided it was too nice and kept it at home instead. He is the man.
Reading back on it, you're probably right. I was just in a certain mindset while perusing this quality website. But we live near Charlotte so October night aren't uncomfortably cold. Just chilly enough to have a fire and wear a hoodie.
This year, we're looking at shorts and t-shirt weather, at least here in Richmond. It's got me rethinking my plan to put the grill in the shed, and I might be using it on Saturday.

This will be a big recruiting weekend for UNC and I can't think of anything better then for recruits to hear loud and sustained "Lets Go Hokies" chants as it reverberates off the remaining aluminum seats and nestles in between the pine trees at beautiful Kenan Stadium.
