Just awful. I hope he does whatever he needs to do to be okay, even if it means missing the game this weekend.

God damn, this breaks my heart.
sometimes the best place to be is "at home" in our place of solitude. for some that is playing a sport. trying to hide behind something we love to mask the pain if only for a couple hours. I hope that house does whatever he needs to do, but if he does decide to play I hope he has a career day in honor of his mothers name and to help him ease the pain if only for a short period of time. may his mother rest in paradise and the players, teammates, coaches, fans, and all of Blacksburg and hokienation rally around him and support him in these hard times.

Condolences to that young man. I have met him a couple of times and he couldn't be nicer and more humble. Great young kid and his Dad is a class act as well. Never met his Mom, but I am sure she will be missed. What a tragic circumstance her being so young. Prayers for the family.

Incredibly difficult to go through at any point especially as a young man. Thoughts and prayers with House and the entire Gaines family.
This is awful, however, trying to see some of the good in this- no one takes care of those who need it most better than Hokies, and specifically his extended family that put on that jersey with him every week. We're all here to grieve with you, provide support, and lift you up.

It's so sad to realize that there are so many players on the team now and from the recent past that can empathize with similar situations of loss, but maybe there's no better community than Virginia Tech for rallying around those who are grieving.

The pain of losing a parent never goes away. What I realized after I lost my own father was that parents spend most of their lives preparing their kids for just such an occasion, when they're gone and the kids are on their own. May House always remember what his mother taught him, and I hope that becomes a source of strength for him.
