Just got done with work so I went to turn on the USF-Tulsa game to see how much USF was winning by, and found them down 14 in the fourth quarter. They came in as 9-point favorites, after finally entering the top-25 with a 5-0 record including a P5 win.
By the way, this week kicked off the trend of Tuesday Night Football, as App State blew past Arkansas State. Expect to see one or more games featuring similar-caliber teams most Tuesdays for the rest of the season.
Also, last night TCU continued what looks to be their worst season in quite a while by getting upset at home by Texas Tech.

Need as many of these 20-25 teams to lose the next two weeks.
Honestly, I don't see how it matters unless we win out until the Miami game, at which point there's no reason we'd still be unranked at 7-2. In any case, probably won't get too much help this week...
#21 Auburn hosts Tennessee, which should be an orange bloodbath, and #22 aTm travels to USCe, who has 2 votes in the AP (spoiler alert, we have none).
None of the other 3 teams in that range play this week.
I'm watching 23 USF play right now. Throw in next week where three teams from 19-25 should lose. Win against UNC big enough and there is a chance.
There's no way we go from 0 votes to #25 with only a single win over a terrible UNC squad, no matter by how much. It doesn't matter anyway, we aren't a top-25 team by just about any metric right now. In the main computer rankings, we're #38 in Sagarin and #47 in S&P+.
If we keep winning, the rankings will take care of themselves. They absolutely don't matter until the Miami game, and even then only to give us a better time/channel slot for the game. We aren't a playoff team, and almost certainly won't get an at-large NY6 bid with 3 losses, so our goals this season are as follows:
- Make a bowl game
- Win the ACC
Neither of those depend on the rankings in the least.
What's our third loss going to be?
Doesn't matter... If we finish the season with 2 losses we are the ACC champions, so if we don't win the championship it means we have at least 3 losses and won't make the NY6.
For what?
We seem to perform worse when we are ranked haha.
This. Rankings are just a number if you have two losses.
Came back to say that USF cut the lead to 7... but then the PAT was blocked.
24-16 with 7 minutes to go.
USF scored with 2 minutes to go, missed the 2-point conversion, kicked it deep, got the stop, and kicked the game-winning field goal with 5 seconds to go.
USF was a 9pt favorite. Lot of pissed off Tulsa fans who bet the ML on that one.
Did French go to Gameday?
Let's go Duke!
Don't have the Duke-GT game here. Watching Auburn-UT. I work with a sensible Auburn fan and numerous non-sensible UT fans. #WarEagle
Minny got fucked there
Florida is getting demolished.
This hasn't aged well.
Ha, yeah. At the point when I wrote it the score was 3-21, vandy. I stopped watching after the first half.
As soon as Vandys RB? went out they couldn't do anything on offense
Just turned on the GT Duke game. GT does not look good at all. I mean they can't move the ball on the ground to save their lives.
I really wanted to watch this game, but for some reason the Xbox espn app is telling me that ACC extra isn't something I can watch, ok, ...but I can watch the game via my phone from the same damn internet connection. It doesn't make any damn sense.
It's a Raycom game. I don't even know why they bother to advertise it on the ESPN app.
Because people like me that live outside of the Raycom coverage area can stream it through the ESPN app.
#11 Joseph on Florida just got ejected off of a team Unsportsmanlike because he had one previously. That's something I haven't seen before.
Me neither, this is kinda nuts
Mullen is salty in his halftime interview. Pointing fingers straight at the Vandy coaching staff
I'm more concerned about Todd Grantham yelling "Fuck your players. And fuck you too." He's pretty gross.
Apparently he's a Hokie taboot. He clearly wasn't around for Hokies Respect
Willingly watched the whole Georgia Tech and Duke first half. A fight just broke out with 44 seconds left in the first half making it all worth it.
Also, Daniel Jones is a bad quarterback.
You were saying?
I'm still a little surprised that the GT touchdown wasn't an Offensive PI
I've heard their passing game is not very officiant
BC - Louisville game is interesting. BC just got a Beamerball TD. 21-20 with a few minutes left in the 2nd.
GT loses another fumble. Good thing they went with the dark colored pants today!
Wow, GT is completely imploding. Another lost fumble resulting in a TD. This is getting ugly. The dark colored pants may not even be able to cover it up.
GT: Fumbles, Duke Scores
Next possession: GT Fumbles, Duke scores
Ensuing kickoff: GT Fumbles, Duke scores
It's beautiful.
Pitt strikes first against Notre Dame
Wow, Auburn. I did not see that coming. I mean, it's not quite over, but it might as well be.
Also in that category: OkSU. And Notre Dame is playing their way into the conversation so far.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here who was rooting for Duke to beat GT.
I... think that might be all of us?
Yeah. I don't mind Duke football, I dislike Georgia Tech, it legitimizes our win, and makes me less nervous about the GT match up.
Plus, the Cutcliffe effect.
Free Football in Chicago, Northwestern was able to tie it up.
Ha, I will gladly drink
Nebraska chokes up a 10 point lead with less than 2 minutes left. Now in OT. Can't help but feel bad for Husker Nation
Nah, I don't feel bad for them. This is the same program that has fired their coach following a 9-4 or better season twice in 15 years, they deserve to have a couple awful seasons.
This.
Nebraska imploding late against Northwestern
No kidding. Jesus, with 0:51 left in the game they had a 97.7 chance to win. Wow.
Yeah Northwestern had to go 99 yards in about 2 minutes with no timeouts. Absurd
Man Pitt is giving a top 5 team a fight again...surely it must be because they're a blue blood and we just can't be expected to match that kind of depth and resources.
No.
"Dealing a crippling upset to a championship contender during a losing season" is Pitt's MO.
Personally I'd rather have our program than Pitt's. Pitt has no stadium, no facilities, no fans, and are doomed to mediocrity because of that. But I guess all that means the football gods reward you with an inexplicable big win every couple of seasons.
Plus they eat shit sooooo
I completely agree, I just hate all the money-related excuse-making from our fan base every time we routinely look like we don't belong on the same field as top teams while other schools do it all the time. We need to find a way to be more competitive in these games, period. And it shouldn't require Phil Knight switching allegiances.
A one score game at half, um. I feel like I've seen that recently for ND.
It'll be interesting to see if Nebraska will be able to stomach Frost going into year two after what will probably be the worst season in school history.
They have a quick trigger finger on their coaching contracts, but assuming they eke out a couple wins against BCU and Illinois he'll be given a shot at Year 2.
Nebraska just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
I really can't stomach watching GT be so bad knowing we'll find a way to f*ck that game up
I wouldn't sell Duke's effort short either. Duke's linebacking corps is outstanding, and that's what you need most to beat GT.
Why the fuck is Oregon - Washington blacked out for me on ESPN 2 in North Carolina?
Obviously they think you should make the short trip for the game.
Ha, same here in VA. I got UCF/Memphis on ABC. I'd much rather watch Washington/Oregon
What part of NC? I see it fine.
I guess they figure that if you really cared, you'd be at the game.
I really hate how pedestrian ND has looked most of the season, including today.
Well, there was that one game where they looked really good...
Wake Forest? :^)
Stanford obviously.
So how did we not end up offering Charlie Brewer?
Is that Michael's younger brother?
I think he had his mind set pretty early on, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, Michael's in the stands wearing Baylor gear. I'm not familiar with the story, and he didn't seam highly rated but has put up points for Baylor and just diced Texa's defense for a touchdown to start the game.
UGA and ND not looking good so far
I'll give Uga a pass, playing at LSU is pretty tough.
...Notre Dame... No idea
#rootforchaos.
I'm with you unless it means a win for Pitt.
Pitt can will all they want until November 10th.
Yep, our SoS doesn't matter unless we are the beneficiary of a level of chaos never seen before in college football. Part of that chaos would likely require ND to have 3 losses, so might as well get started now.
Edit: what you said. Let's just win the coastal and see what happens in the acc championship
Yes. I literally just said our SoS doesn't matter, so we don't need ND to "keep up appearances". At this point, the most we can hope for is an ACC Championship, and that doesn't depend on SoS, just conference wins.
Reading is hard, my bad. Legs
Let's go Pitt! Nardouche may be a douche. But he's our little douche. Notre Dame can go screw themselves
My dislike of ND far exceeds my dislike of Pitt. I am pulling for a ND loss here. It sucks that results in Pitt win but whatever.
Not me.
My dislike of Pitt has more salt in it.
It's like ND, only with Narduzzi.
Though if ND has the potential to steal a premiere ACC bowl, I'm all for them losing to anyone. Just wish it could have been VT.
It is close but the scales tip a bit to Pitt for me here. But this is what I like to call a meteor game. The only acceptable outcome that would make me happy here is a meteor hits the stadium and nobody wins.
If we don't want ND to take an ACC bowl, then we probably want them to win out (or 1 loss at worst), so they get into the NY6 (either CFP or at-large).
The other idea is that they can take a tier 2 bowl, but I don't think they'll lose that many games.
My ND love exceeds all except my love for us.
Just as I say that ND scores a TD
Marshall held ODU to 3 points in the first half.
Wow, the Herd must have a great defense.
That was the point you were going for, right?
Yeah, something like that!
I am completely on board with the conspiracy theory that ODU prepped for us all offseason and through the first few weeks. I know we should have beat them regardless, but I honestly think they sacrificed their entire season to beat us.
Win or lose for Notre Dame, this game will hurt their chances of playoffs so that's good.
I don't see how winning this game hurts their chances of a playoff game.
Winning an ugly game against a bad team doesn't do much for the eye test, should they happen to drop another game down the road. Especially since this wouldn't be their first ugly win against a bad team.
People think that matters in real time but at the end of the year it really never does. Teams have their best wins compared, and their worst losses compared, but never their "worst wins."
If anything the argument that a team was good enough to find a way to win a game they didn't deserve to comes up more than "they only beat this team by one score."
It doesn't.
I base this outcome on how I would feel about us based on who wins. What would make me feel better ND winning a game they should win or Pitt beating a team that stomped us. Yeah o want Pitt and the Nardouchey to lose.
Narduzzi is going to go full press conference meltdown after this one. I can't wait
Why do teams look like dog shit after beating our asses?
I don't know, but it's almost a rule.
They sacrifice their souls to the football gods to beat us.
That was a terrible play by Book
Wow, great tackle for a loss by Notre Dame.
AAAAANNNNDD Notre Dame prevails.
Complete with Narduzzi trying to claim that the pass we all saw was out of bounds was in bounds.
That got a nice little grin out of me
The replay in slow motion was even better.
The George Costanza "if you believe it, it's not a lie" concept of football coaches.
That is an insult to George Costanza!
THAT'S WHO HE REMINDS ME OF
it's too perfect. it really is
Phew ND looks like it will survive
They spent all offseason preparing for our game. Obvious.
Combine that with us overlooking them all off-season and its the perfect marriage
Edit: this was supposed to be in response to the post about ODU prepping for us all off-season
Man, UGA has running backs that get it done. I want that.
Seems like LSU has the same thing.
MSU beats PSU. They'll be no celebrating in the FranklinDome!
Down goes Washington and PSU
So Um Miami May lose tonight.
Maybe. Probably not, but maybe.
At this point I'm not sure it matters to us, even if we somehow pull this one out.
If the UNC quarterback was anywhere close to accurate we'd be dead meat.
That's been the case every game this season. Every WR playing against us can get open whenever they want. Daniel Jones and Ian Book both missed a bunch of open receivers deep.
Since I'm not watching our game anymore, it looks like Michigan is trying to pull away from Wisconsin. I kinda hope they do. I don't really have anything again Wisconsin, ..but I just don't like them. Hard to put a finger on why.
lolmiami?
Yeah, they had LOLUVA stopped and committed a stupid personal foul to extend the drive.
Iowa State is smacking wvu.
6 of the top 16 teams lost. Insane #chaos
only 12 of the top 25 teams won yesterday.
I hope Tua isn't seriously hurt. Even if it's just nagging for the rest of the year that sucks. He seems like a great guy and I honestly really enjoy watching him play. Plus I never root for anyone to get injured, no matter who they play for.
Travon McMillan down injured after taking a body missile to the side of his knee. Same guy (#1) had been twisting his ankle after a run two plays before.
Noooo
Hmm. So loluva finally beat a 16.
I still don't know how we lost Felton Davis III to Michigan State. Any insiders have a story to share?
