Catch-all thread for Week 8 college football games during the bye week:
The total in the Michigan v Mich St game was bet down to 39.5...looks like the UNDER was a good call
Not sure the total in the OU v TCU is, but it appears apparent that neither team is particularly interested in playing defense

Watching the Mich/MSU game, I am not sure how there wasn't a targeting call when the MSU player got blown up along the sideline after missing the catch.
Why even have the rule when obvious examples don't even draw a flag
Thought so too at first look. Replay showed he lead with the shoulder. Violent hit but looked legit.
So the pregame for MSU-Mich was something. Michigan player using his cleats tried to mess up the Spartans mid field logo. MSU players and Michigan players bumped each other a lot during field walks and warmups
MSU also delayed their "walk" and did it when UM was supposed to have warm up time. They basically clotheslined the UM player as he was stretching. Then he went and messed up the logo.
Welp, the only good afternoon game is under delay. Now I have to watch loluva-duke.
I mean, you really don't HAVE to...
Snowing on AJ Bush
Illinois and Wisconsin are in a snow bowl game! In October, that's not ok.
I totally agree with you. It's not supposed to snow until after Thanksgiving!
...yeah, we got snow here twice already. I want to say the first time was like...2.5 weeks ago maybe. The weekend my wife got back from deployment it felt like 17 degrees outside. Just miserable. We've since warmed up, 60s the past few days and projected out for the next few days. Thank God.
Dismal crowd at Duke.
UVA looking good.
This makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.
Sincerely agree, that game scares me as much as any left on the schedule.
Duke keeps shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and in the kicking game.
Meh, im seeing more uva playing well. Duke cant move on offense against the uva defense. And uva even missed a field goal.
Watching uvas secondary play makes me...gulp...envious...*ducks*
Kinda quietly one of our old nemesis is 6-0 and ranked #20... Cincinnati
If UNC beats Syracuse I'd be ok with that
Iowa/Maryland at halftime by 1:15.
Is that some kind of record? At this pace, the game will be over by 2:30.
Daniel Jones has regressed each year he has been at Duke.
Baffling considering coach Cut's reputation.
To tack on (why not) Duke has had its fair share of silly penalties and silly errors today as well.
And if you take out Duke's 55 yard punt, the others have averaged about 35 yards.
UVA is playing solid football, but Duke looks like they went and watched Zion last night and decided to just go ahead and start playing basketball.
Why is this in the OT section? Its about football...
I've never been quite clear if the football section is about all football or just VT football
Well the other "other games" threads have always been in the football section.
That's some bad parenting right there.
Not the part about skipping the wedding. Kid totally deserves that for scheduling it during football season. But if the parents were doing their job all along, they wouldn't have found themselves in that situation.
I think it's bad parenting because what kind of example are you setting when you make shit up to get on TV?
I think its bad parenting because if it is true, what kind of example did you set by saying it was OK to get married during football season.
I'm guessing that they weren't invited.
Anyone know of a Hokie bar in Buffalo, NY? In town for a wedding. Couldn't find anything on the alumni page.
Michigan's defense is suffocating MSU.
Michigan allowed only 94 total yards to MSU and an astounding 18:57 of possession! Amazing!
I said it a bunch last year, and I'll say it again... thank God for illegal YouTube streamers. Making today a bit bearable.
How would I go about finding the streams? 😏
If our defense takes bad angles and gets out of position like Duke's is today, Perkins is going to cause us a ton of issues when we play LOLUVA.
I just started watching the game, but UNC seems to be getting chunk yards, like they did against us, last week. They have 100 more yds than Syracuse's potent O, not including a 75 yd punt return for a TD (by Newsome).
I know it's kind of beating a dead horse, but Dazz looks like a true baller
Yeah, ..how did we miss out on that one?
UNC seems to be improving. A lot of that might be finally having all of their players off of suspension. At least that's what I'm hoping explains last week's game.
Jones is just throwing balls up on a prayer today. So many badly thrown balls.
Dude how long until Jones get benched, duke has not looked good since his return very INT happy
Ruffin McNeil help TCU to only 275 total yards and an astounding 22:56 of possession. Love that guy, go Ruffin! :)
Wow, TCU is having a bad year.
This is why preseason polls are worthless Duke looks like hot garbage
Duke didn't receive a vote in the preseason AP poll.
I was referring to alot of people calling Duke or Miami as division favorites is all
No one wants to hear this, but UVA is a good football team this season. Duke looks bad b/c of UVA, not because of Duke.
A good uva or a bad uva, they can still kiss my ass
Don't downvote this correct opinion. UVA looks solid and I'm more and more worried every week.
I am choosing to have some hope that by playing UVA last, we will have the most disciplined and comfortable version of our defense for that game.
They look really good, they could beat Notre Dame and Alabama easily.
Alabama? Sarcasm?
I thought this was 7LoP's schtick.
Honestly, at what point does being an Alabama fan become boring?
Boring? Never. Feeling of entitlement - grows every week.
It wasn't that long ago Bama didn't go to a bowl game. They also had multiple years of 6 win seasons in the not too distant past. Bama fans who aren't recent to the bandwagon will remember those days.
Wasn't that long ago that Bama wished they were at our level...'98 music city bowl...sigh
You're saying that Bama, 6 years after a National title wanted to be like us? I doubt that. This is the school where fans would tell you how many national titles it had instead of talk about their current team. The only reason they live in the present is because they are winning national titles. Same as the Nebraska thread, they fire 9-3 coaches because they want titles.
Yep, I've got a buddy I've known since elementary school who is a diehard Bama fan, and they were mostly an afterthought in the SEC with an occasional 9-10 win season sprinkled in until Saban. He was as diehard in the early 2000's as he is today.
Bammer's up 21-0 on Vols hardly seven minutes in
I remember at one point I thought we were getting pretty close to Alabama's level. Now there's like an ocean between us. I feel like a National Championship trophy for the Hokies is about as far away as a human colony on Mars.
The only teams close to Bama's level play on Sundays.
Cuse and UNCheat going into OT after a crazy final 3 minutes.
This Clemson NC state game looks like the old games where auburn or Bama would play a Oregon/spread team in a bowl game or NC. Those tempo spread offenses are great until they face a legit Dline so they can't pick any first downs for their tempo to open the game up and the opposing defense just bleeds slowly giving up a touchdown or FG each quarter and they end up winning 27-7 or something.
Death, taxes, and McMillan playing well against good teams at Colorado.
I love it. I'm such a Colorado fan...at least until he leaves.
*McMillion
*as long as he isn't asked to block.
Didn't see the game but went to check the box score.. he averaged 3.4 ypc, 2 catches for 12 yards, and fumbled once... not sure i would call that playing well, am I missing something?
I'm not cheering against him but who exactly is the good team that McMillian has played well against? 1-5 UCLA? 3-4 Arizona State? Nah, must be 1-6 New Hampshire.
Looks like Clemson is officially the one to beat in the ACC, as expected. NCSU only has 100 total yds of offense and Clemson has 300 after one half.
The ACC is terrible. NC State was a paper tiger after playing no good teams, best win is BC without AJ Dillon, and having their loss to WVU canceled by the hurricane. It's absolutely embarrassing how we pretty much just let Clemson start in the playoff each year.
UVa ripping right through it, and VT scraping through.
VT needs to find some answers. Fast.
There's no reason to lose ACC games this year.
Tech beat Duke by a bigger margin, same margin at FSU as UVA beat Louisville at home and same margin at UNC as UVA beat Miami at home.
I agree the last performance has got everyone on edge, but UVA hasn't blasted through anything yet, especially since they beat Lousiville, which is playing like a high school team this year. Let's let it all shake out and cheer for for 15 straight on Nov. 23.
All VT needs to do is take care of business, but I have to admit that the ODU loss has me biting my fingernails.
This. I'm seeing too many people getting worked up about a game over a month away. So much can change in CFB between now and then with injuries that either team could be totally different. We need to be worried about beating a team this week that's had Fu's number and then worry about taking care of business the next week, and then upset Miami at home. UVA will get their due attention, I'm sure. No way Fu is gonna let ODU and UVA beat us in the same season if he truly values his job here.
I've disagreed with you in the past, but you are totally right. I'm sorry, but the ACC is garbage. Clemson is a moderately better version of what we were circa 2005-2011. They are completely the beneficiaries of a down FSU, completely lost Miami, and VT program which should be taking the next step, but I honestly feel Fu is playing his first big gig as safe as possible and still leaning on Bud.
Wow, Nebraska might win a game.
Congratulations to everyone with half a brain who hammered the Syracuse wins total over at 4.5. I beat that drum all offseason
Ricky Slade getting no carries against Indiana. They just put in a TF RB over him.
How dare you! They are a big dawg!! Ricky Slade is doing so much better at PSU. Out of state is the way to go!
...Clemson really that much better than the rest of the ACC this year, eh?
Yes.
Yeah, it fucking sucks.
Franklin overthought the onside kick, so Indiana has the ball!
Wow, Franklin. You deserve to lose this game.
Clemson is the FSU team of the 90's and the rest of the ACC is.... the rest of the ACC from the 90's.
This is accurate. 2016 was the blip on the radar that made everyone think things were more level than they really were. Talent, the true differentiator, is showing its face.
Penn State was a hair away from blowing a two touchdown lead with under two to go.
Look I don't want to lose to UVA ever, but if it has to happen eventually it might as well be a year we already completely embarrassed ourselves against ODU. Just get all the shame and embarrassment over at once and be done with it.
Nah, to hell with that.
I'm OK if we NEVER lose to them. We'll make them a circus oddity.
Nope nope nope. I wanna claim we had the weakest team since the early 90s and they still couldn't beat us
2014 and 2015 already happened.
Rondale Moore is an absolute stud.
He's fun to watch
That was one hell of a catch by Zico.
Is it just me or do LSU's jerseys look lile they were designed by a kindergartener and the numbers drawn with a giant sharpie?
Those helmets are fire. Numbers are indeed yuge
Entire uni combo is based off the WWI season where they didn't play. So maybe the numbers are throwback era?
I just saw a Purdue commercial. THEY STOLE HORSE ON A TREADMILL WTF.
It's okay because of what they did.
Oregon's uniforms are awful. How shocking.
Wow, Ohio State has the chance to go up 10-7 at the half and stalled out on the red zone and missed the FG.
Purdue's holder just laid the fuckin' wood.
In a day where upsets fell short we might get one from Purdue long as the big ten refs don't start giving osu some favors
If they call Papa John's in about 30 minutes the pizza will probably make it to the stadium just in time for Urban to enjoy it hot.
Looks like they'll need it. Purdue housing anOSU now
OK, now that's some good play calling by Purdue.
Or execution, or something, but everything is definitely going their way.
I was just thinking, I hope we can get to a point to have a running game like that
Also, it helps having an athlete like Moore
Tahj Gary.
GO BOILERS!!
I hope they rush the field (i'm sure they will).
Also DJ Knox is a beast!
Rondale Moore too. Wow
Man #4 for Purdue is a baller.
Urban's feeling some health issues coming on...
A little "one dimensional offense" coming on?
Sad pizza time
Ohio State is getting saaaamoked. I'm a happy man.
Loving this OSU beat down....Go Purdue!
I'm enjoying it, but the Schadenfreude would be much greater for me if I was watching this happen to Clemson.
Urban is going to have to take a lot more of his heart medicine to make him forget about this ass whooping.
Think of how much our fan base would be complaining if we had a defensive performance like this, and then consider that Ohio State has THE most talented roster per the 247 talent composite... even with 4/5 stars at every position on defense they were still giving up huge plays in crunch time in the 2nd half.
If our defense played that bad, I might have just avoided TKP until the next season because it would have been that toxic. OSU's LBs played some of the worst football I have seen. They tackled poorly and were always out of position, I don't know if it was youth or bad coaching but that was some pretty pitiful LB play.
Not even close it'll be fun seeing everyone spin it as a no big deal loss
Man it's fun watch Ohio State get crushed by an unranked team.
My favorite new annual college football tradition.
Why can't we have nice things?!
That was cathartic
Folks Purdue beat the spread by 42.5 points
That has to be the biggest point spread upset of the season so far.
ODU "only" beat the spread by 41.5, but something tells me that won't matter...
Ohio State will move on from this abuse. Urban Meyer will show them how it's done.
Savage...I laughed
So a coworker as a huge Ohio State fan. What do I leave on his desk on Monday? Thomas the train? I need ideas.
You should find like 10 different small relevant knick-knacks, and hide them in various drawers and nooks on his desk, so he gets reminded of it over and over and over again.
Toy model train should work.
You could also just pretend nothing happened, as if you hardly noticed.
"Oh, did they lose?"
I like this.
Just tell him that this blowout loss to an unranked Purdue team shouldn't overshadow the fact that Urban Meyer covered up domestic abuse.
Urban even said after the game that OSU got "exposed..." Yes Urban, we know....
Michigan going to stumble backwards into a playoff berth?
Michigan has looked solid since their loss to Notre Dame, in my opinion.
Michigan looks like the class of the Big Ten at this point. They still have PSU and OSU left though, so they could take another loss. Then they probably have a rematch with Wisconsin in the championship game, though Wisconsin still has Purdue, PSU, and NW'ern, so it could take a few more losses.
All that said, if Michigan wins out, they're in at 12-1 with a conference championship and a quality loss.
Saw on Reddit: "Y'all got any more of them Bosas?"
Savage.
So, um, ODU won last night.
That. Is. Nuts.
Congrats to ODU, but a piece of me was hoping they'd only beat us all year long.
What the hell
Holy hell
What a wonderful morning to emphasize my dislike for Tennessee fans. They were crazy enough to get their hopes up to beat Alabama after defeating Auburn so now they're all butthurt on Facebook, bringing up the most irrelevant things. Last night a Tennessee fan immediately brought up how she'd rather be a true Tennessee fan than an Alabama band wagon, and then proceeded to state that there Virginia Tech had band wagon fans in the area because no one went to games until Michael Vick. I am adamantly against Facebook arguments but I had to step in on that way. I hope they lose the rest of their games. They will always be worse than UVA fans.
Hokiegirl & Tennessee hatred; name a more iconic duo.
