We're nearly into November, and we all know what that means. It's time for #MACtion.
Tune in to the Miami (OH) @ Buffalo game right now to see some of the slickest lids I've seen all year.

Buffalo's QB is 6'7" 245lb and has an absolute cannon.
In awe at the size of this lad
A B S O L U T E U N I T
You are absolutely right, Buffalo's helmets are 🔥
Temple and UCF are playing basketball on grass tonight.
Nice to see offenses that move the ball. I do understand that these defenses are porous,....... like ours.
Blatant no call PI on UCF near the goal line cost Temple points. Corner had his inside arm fully extended into the pads of the receiver 9 yards downfield with the ball in the air. Ridiculous and obvious.
The call against the Temple running bank for bench pressing the doofus UCF DL was questionable as well.
Temple had almost 40 min of TOP...and lost by double digits.
TOP only counts when you play GT! /s
No, it only never counts only if you are positively playing GT.
This isn't a joking matter VTacajoe!
To be fair, they we're moving the ball well and methodically, but they had a few drives end inside the opponents 20 because they missed a fg, then they couldn't trust their kicker and kept having to go for it. They actually moved the ball pretty easily in small to medium chunks and by the nature of their offense, used up some clock.
All I'm hearing is "TOP doesn't matter because you have to do more than just hold the ball to win the game..." which is exactly my point and is something certain equine users here could use a lesson in.
Shots fired!
Don't see UVA winning against Pitt. It's raining (they suck in the rain if the Indiana game is any indication) and Pitt will be playing inspired and for their city after the tragic events of last week.

Don't let rooting against UVA distract you from the fact that #EatShitPitt
Go giant meteor!!!
I feel this in my soul.
Side note, isn't it odd that all college football fans know what a meteor game is but no NFL fans know what the f#ck we're talking about?
Um, I might have just had to google it.
*hangs head in shame*
I really have no idea who to root against tonight.
Always against UVA.
Do we want to LOLUVA to win out so the VT loss is more painful or drop every game from here on out?
No. We want UVA (and Miami) to lose every. single. game. The one exception is if we need UVA to win in order for us to advance. Which is not the case tonight.
So LOLUVa is challenging for the ACC Coastal... They are playing a key game that is nationally televised... And there appears to be all of about 12K people there.
Which is really sad because, per my Hoo coworker, tickets were going 2 for $25.
Talking with a group of friends who went to the game, it seemed like most people were sitting in groups just chitchatting and socializing then periodically paying attention to the game. UVA may be trending upward but their fanbase is still stale dog shit
Didn't look that way on TV. While the crowd was tiny, the cameras showed a lot of engagement at the appropriate moments. It looked to me like the ones that did show up seemed to care. With all the flags and replay stoppages, I don't doubt that many lost enthusiasm at times, but yes, I agree their fanbase doesn't pass muster.
This is going to be fun as hell to watch if the kick return is any indication of how this game is going to go.
"Not a lot of standing water" and immediately the broadcast cuts to the field which appears to have huge puddles around the 50.
Announcer just said he touched a bunch of balls.
Woo! TD Pitt!
(?)
I kind of feel dirty being excited about that Pitt TD...
Woo! TD LOLUVA!
(?)
I feel like I'm watching two high school teams play
Both Pitt and loluva look very beatable.
The rain may have a little to do with it, but if we run the ball like we did in the first half of the Georgia Tech game we'll have some success.
And I can see us having a lot of success with that little H back dump off that Virginia took for about 30 yards against Pitt. Ramblin' Rambo makes a triumphant return.
Woo LOLUVA fumble!
(?)
Tackling optional right now.
Perkins is shifty. Pitt has missed a few tackles on him behind the lines.
But is he back up qb for gt shifty?
UVa is going to be hard to knock off in this one.
#LittleCancerDudesWinGames2018
Woo! Pitt first down from their own ten yard line!
(?)
Look at the nuts on ol' Pat going for it on 4th and 1 from his own 11.
No thanks, ugh.
So... The first two offensive series from both of these teams scared the crap out of me. I'm actually feeling a little better now.
Thats not targeting.
What even is this penalty anymore.. I just don't see it there.
If that was targeting, my name is AssPocketFullOZima.
He lowered his helmet as he went in for the hit. That is the motion they are supposed to be looking for. In that case, it was actually "targeting".
Woo! Targeting against Pitt!
(?)
Pitt caught a break by 6 seconds. That would have been big for us.
Wow....poor targeting call. Thought Ladler's against GT was iffy as well.
I get protecting players and all but it is still football. I think it needs be obvious launching in the player or something.
Fuck Pat Shartduzzi but dangit I hope they beat the hoos my boss is getting carried away with uva this year
Lol same
If Pitt can cash in here and get a stop they might be able to mash UVA to death and kill the clock in the 4th quarter.
That would require them to actually score here.
Well whaddaya know they did it.
Something like a 15 play 9 minute drive
Woo! Pitt TD!
(?)
LOL@ UVA fans booing the touchdown. It was a horsecollar, deal with it.
The 10,000 that are there?for this being their best season in years, it is embarrassing to see the entire upper deck empty
I won't (just can't) defend their "fans", but the deluge was prodigious leading up to game time and definitely kept the Zima crowd home and dry. The TV coverage did a good job of cherry picking the involved amongst them, and there were groups of them that were clearly involved, but you are right. I've read 12,000, but either way, they definitely exemplify the "fair weather fan" base.
If we can't find a way to beat either of these teams we don't deserve a bowl game cause these teams suckkkkkk
There's some middle ground between great and suckkkkkk. That middle ground is where most of the ACC pays rent.
Everyone forgets Duke easily beat Northwestern 21-7. Duke lost to VT, UVA, and Pitt. Northwestern beat Purdue, Michigan State, and Wisconsin and barely lost to Michigan. The ACC isn't a great conference this year but I don't think the teams all suck like everyone seems to think.
And you're basing this off of one game, Duke beating NW.
By that logic, if they were in the ACC, ODU would be contending for the Coastal.
Not really. Purdue lost to Eastern Michigan. Ohio State got destroyed by Purdue. Wisconsin lost at home to a BYU who is not good (they lost to Northern Illinois, whom lost to Florida State by 18). I think the B1G has plenty of highly questionable losses of their own.
So, you argue that Duke is no slouch because they easily beat NW, who beat Michigan State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and almost Michigan. Then you argue that the B1G is mediocre?
I'm completely confused as to why this has become a sticking point for you. The OP stated, "these teams suckkkkkk" and there is a feeling shared by many on the site that ACC teams suck because no team other than Clemson is elite. My purpose was to point out that other conferences, like the B1G, often have their fair share bad/puzzling losses as well but that doesn't mean every team in the conference sucks. Maybe it's merely innocent self-deprecation but I do find it contradictory that many are quick to embrace that ACC teams suck and then complain when it's perceived that VT doesn't get enough respect.
In your first comment you defended the ACC by way of Duke's NW win. You said nothing of the struggles of the B1G. Then you argued that the B1G was pretty mediocre, which kind of contradicted your first comment. Now you point out that your original thesis was to say that other conferences have their struggles as well. I will agree that's a very valid point. But, you had a long, confusing way of getting that across. I am not trying to be a dick and I hope you don't take it that way. I was genuinely trying to see what you were getting at and the gifs are just for laughs.
BTW, if anyone is complaining about VT not getting respect this season, they haven't been watching. We haven't earned any.
Well said!
We've even looked bad winning!
So what I hear you saying is, we need to expand the Circle of Suck to the B1G?
Well... Because the B1G is the "Grand Daddy" of all conferences it would seem their suck has been inherited by the ACC.
I could endure every UVA game this year, as long as the announcers keep mentioning them losing to a 16th seed.
Let the mashing begin.
F U C K U V A
So... Maybe Pitt's rushing game is making me nervous again.
UVA has lost three starters to injury in this game, but Pitt can definitely mash dudes.
We've lost even more than they have tbh
How serious? Like out for Our game serious? Please please please
A starting DE and FS we're both helped off and looked to be in a lot of pain. I certainly don't hope for injuries, but I doubt we see either of them again. At least not at 100%.
Woo! LOLUVA TD!
(?)
Woo! Pitt TD!
(?)
What a shit show.
That was cool.
And familiar
Fucking #goacc
Teams make the absolute dumbest plays against UVA.
UVA TD was an incredibly dumb missed assignment. And to go up 8 you drop a snap on a PAT. Geez.
LOL@ the DT turning around and hugging a linebacker after a false start.
I could see Peoples having a very good night against the Hoos.
That just means McClease will get the bulk of the carries on Black Friday.
The Halfwits and Wagers guys will be ecstatic.
Does mendemhall do anything but nervously stroll the sidelines?
And signal 1st down UVA, when the measurement is coming after 3rd down?
No. He only does those 2 things.
I'm glad someone else noticed that.
Tonight is not the only game he has done it.
Also, has anyone else noticed that UVA's D holds up the 4th down signal after any big play? Even on first downs? Makes no sense.
It makes perfect sense. They're not signaling 4th down. They're honoring the fans who showed up for the spring game.
I was wondering that, too. The camera showed him 40+ times. And he NEVER said a word. Just stared. I thought the TV was frozen...but he blinked.
He smells farts, and tries to ascertain their source.
At least that is what I believe based on every single sideline shot of him I've seen.
Homebound watching the UVa- Pitt game. Geez Louise... anybody got some wet paint that needs supervising until it dries?
The only thing this game tells me (and a few others I've watched) is that outside of Clemson, the ACC really is trash this year. If the Edmunds Bros, Adonis, Mook, Hill and Settle were still around, the Hokies could've probably run the table all the way to Charlotte - even with Willis at QB. That's a non Kool-Aid drinking opinion.
Yo.... I want that kicker.
That kicker just went yard
Raiders are lining up a 2021 first round pick for Pitt's kicker as we speak.
Oh man we are gonna blitz the shit out of Perkins.
???
Maybe I'm overlooking something here, & sorry to play Captain Obvious, but uh, don't we need to possess an actual, factual defense in order to accomplish something like that??
If we blitz well enough, we can disguise the fact that we don't, in fact, have an "actual, factual defense".
The ol' scare them into thinking we can tackle defense, eh? Might just be crazy enough to work. Don't forget the alka seltzers while we're at it.
If there's one thing I trust Bud to do, it's figure out a way to get pressure though an array of blitzes. I'd expect him to get pressure with a defense of ten geriatrics and a cardboard cutout of David Hasselhoff.
But with this lack of personnel...
Hyperbole much?
We've had at least one sack in every game this season (even against Georgia Tech, who did not throw a pass), and are averaging 2.6 sacks per game. This year's defense is the worst we've seen in Blacksburg in years, but one thing they haven't struggled to do is pressure opposing QBs.
FTFY
Perkins with the bonehead play of the game
From 3rd and 1 to 4th and 17 lol
Perkins has held the ball way too long all night.
Great db play there but what the hell was that celebration
`Bronco Mendenhall, everyday.
Getting trashed at a pool side bar with my wife in Hawaii while watching the Wahoos lose. Paradise is real.
Wait a minute here. You're watching the 'hoos but won't be watching the Hokies?
Just about every time he does, we lose. This is well documented (or am I mixing him up with somebody else?? I dunno, I've possibly had too much to drink, lmao).
Ahhhh. Hit the beach, then man. Hit the beach.
We're doing an excursion that runs all day. Headed there right now actually. I'll be checking the game cast periodically though.
And I truly wish you and your family a wonderful day. I envy you, for sure, and would love to join you for a drink this evening, but just thinking about y'all being there is about as close as I'm likely to be to Hawaii for several years, if ever.
We once monitored the VT-GT score while riding mules to the bottom of Bryce Canyon, by having the guides radio back to base camp every so often. Probably annoyed the crap out of them (and everyone else) but hey, we do what we have to do.
I squatted in the office of the park manager in Kodachrome for more than half of the Duke game three years ago until he needed his computer back. Even talked him into coming by my site later if we won. Didn't see him, we lost, but it sure was cool that he was willing to work with me. He was a BYU fan, but was conversant about the ACC.
Playing BC before Pitt will be very important for us to figure out how to stop the power run game. We will either have to stop the run really well or score enough to force them to throw. I don't think we want to get into a close game with Pitt with their strength very clearly being the run game.
Pitt just had an 11 second scoring drive by rushing the ball. I don't think being behind will mean they'll abandon the run.
Definitely. If our offense can score and we can get into a shootout we have a chance.
Having BC first means we get a warmup for the games that actually matter, since even with a loss to BC we control our own destiny.
Only half-sarcastic.
loluva that's all!
Just looked at loluva's other games and noticed a trend:
They can't play from down.
Wins
Losses
Get a good lead on them early and they'll fold like a card table.
Hate to break it to you, but we've only held a double-digit lead 3 times this season. Not exactly our forte at this point.
That's 75% of our wins, though!
Further, GT and Duke are both eliminated with one more conference loss. Duke may already be eliminated and I just haven't found all their scenarios yet, but since Pitt and UVA both have 4 wins, both would have to lose out -- which would give the Hokies a 4th and 5th conference win.
Edit: Duke is already eliminated. They need a tie that involves both Georgia Tech and Miami to finish 5-3 to have a chance on tiebreakers and since Duke and Georgia Tech both have to win out for 5-3, that makes Miami 4-4 at best.
Yep. I'm currently working on compiling all the possible outcomes from this point forward, and finally got to the last one where Duke is tied for the Coastal lead.
They are involved in 72 ties, but lose each tie to one of the 5 teams still alive for the Coastal (6 to GT, 34 to Pitt, 6 to Miami, 8 to UVA, and 18 to VT).
This was lolUVA's shot at the division they won't get for at least another 5 years. A down VT, Miami and GT is extremely rare and it looks like Pitt is going to capitalize from it. lolUVA blew it.
There are currently six possible 5-way ties, three of which favor Pitt and none favor Miami:
Duke / GT / Pitt / UVA / VT -- Pitt would finish either 3-1 or 4-0
* Duke beats Miami, Clemson, Wake and UNC (1-3)
* GT beats UVA, UNC and Miami (2-2)
* UVA beats us (2-2)
* We beat Pitt + UM or BC OR we beat UM + BC (2-2 or 1-3)
* Pitt beats WF OR Miami OR VT (3-1 or 4-0)
Duke / UM / Pitt / UVA / VT #1 -- Pitt 3-1
* Duke wins out (1-3)
* UM beats GT, Pitt, VT (2-2)
* Pitt beats VT (3-1)
* UVA beats GT (2-2)
* We beat UVA + BC (2-2)
Duke / UM / Pitt / UVA / VT #2 -- UVA 3-1
* Duke and Miami no change
* Us over Pitt + BC (2-2)
* Pitt over WF (2-2)
* UVA over VT (3-1)
Duke / UM / Pitt / UVA / VT #3 - VT 3-1
* Duke and Miami no change
* UVA over GT (2-2)
* Pitt over WF (2-2)
* VT over Pitt + UVA (3-1)
GT / UM / Pitt / UVA / VT - GT 3-1
Only possible with:
GT over UM, UNC, UVA (3-1)
UM over Duke, Pitt, VT (2-2)
Pitt over WF (2-2)
UVA over VT (3-1)
VT over BC and Pitt (1-3)
GT beat UVA head-to-head
Woo! Pitt beat LOLUVA!
(?)
Fuck UVA
The targeting call against Ladler was horseshit. The targeting call against Pitt last night was horseshit and Gameday just had a "spirited debate," on set about the horseshit targeting call against LSU's stud backer last week. The refs are ruining the game with these terrible calls.
I am not one for crackpot conspiracies, but that dude just pointed out that the best player on 4 different SEC teams just happened to get targeting calls in the second half of their games before playing Bama so they would miss the first half of their Bama game. I am, by no means, suggesting that it is intentional, but that is one hell of a coincidence.
That certainly fits in with other theories about SEC refs.
I don't see a big conspiracy there.
The NCAA has decided to call targeting if it's even close in an attempt to reduce long term injuries.
Not saying I agree with all of them, or that they're consistent enough, but they're making a concerted effort to reduce injury.
But then they review each of them to decide if it was actually targeting or not. If it isn't targeting it should be overturned.
I don't have a problem with a penalty being called for hits to the head. I do have a problem with the resulting ejection of a player.
The targeting penalty must change as some hits are more egregious than others.
Ladler's targeting call was more understandable than the call against Pitt last night, in my opinion. Took the replay guys way too long to come to the targeting conclusion last night, so maybe at least someone up there didn't agree. Seems like if it took that long to make the decision, it probably wasn't targeting. It wasn't called on the field.
At the end of the day, what is really gonna be done about it? I'll tell you: BIG FAT ASS NOTHING. Literally NOTHING. We as fans (& the team) have absolutely ZERO choice but to take it up the tailpipe & with a Happy Days, Joanie & Ciaci smile. There's literally NOTHING that you, I, or anyone else can do about. Just control what you can.
I thought that part of the targeting call was about "intent". The D-Lineman for Pitt last night lowered himself and hit Perkins as he was just beginning to fall. To top it off, the crown of the helmet was not in play for either player (it just happened to be the top of the face mask of the Pitt player and the upper shoulder/neck/ear area for Perkins.
The thing for me is that players can't go high, but if the go low and then the ball carrier subsequently does the same thing, what is the defensive player supposed to do? I'm all for player safety, but at some point the tentativeness of the players is going to make things even more unsafe.
It's very difficult to assess "intent".
You need concrete things that a ref can see. Launching is one of those things. Lowering your helmet is one of those things. Point of contact is one of those things.
But you're right. If both the offensive and defensive player go low at the same time, I don't think you should penalize the defensive player (like what happened with Ladler last week).
Maryland fan base has made their feelings crystal clear, I'd say
What happened?
At kickoff, I'd say - generously - that there were mmmmaybe 5K fans in the stands
They've managed themselves...
...poorly.
It's one thing for the program to screw up. It's something else to be completely tone-deaf to a tragedy involving one of your players. The Board of Regents didn't even pretend to consider the students. That's a pretty big problem.
UNC looking decent against GT so far.
How come GT couldn't fumble like that last week?
Wish GT would have put the ball on the ground this much against us...
There running there traditional offense this week. They really did throw a wrinkle at us.
Aaannd . . . there goes Dabo, running up the score on Louisville. Color me shocked.
I don't get the hate here. His team is good... his team is young (on offense)... They need the reps... And to boot, as a coach, I feel more disrespected when coaches pack it in and stop playing.
No hate, just my observation. I watch a lot of Clemson football, not just the highlights.
Edit: I don't get the dv. FWIW, I legged your comment.
I don't down vote unless its really bad, which your comment was not. Sometimes down votes flow like a river around here.
I don't think Bobby Petrino is that well liked...
Coach Ogregen sounded like someone was lipsyncing as a joke so funny
Edit: more like Kermit the frog with a two tons of stones between his legs
Every SEC game I watch, I see ACC targeting on every single play.
Duke has an 8 point lead with 8 minutes left. Come on dukies!!!!
Is the u back?
At least Army is having a pretty good season.
LSU just needs needs 4 quick TDs and 1 2point conversion, and they're right back into this game!
Looks like they did that thing again where they supposedly play Alabama, but get so hyped up they forget to score.
"No"
-Alabama
