Travon McMillan is having quite the season so far for Colorado. Is it just me or is it weird seeing a former Hokie RB succeed and our RB situation be....pretty bad?
I always thought he had potential to be a solid starter, he just clashed with Fuente.

I'd prefer him to succeed somewhere rather than butt heads with his coach and be unproductive on our sideline.
Seems like a shit ton of players have butted heads with the coach
Really who? also Mcmillion couldn't figure out how to block (he still can't) so when a player won't do what's needed by the coaching staff what should they do?
Seems like running off a player who doesn't do everything perfect but does his main task (in this case running with the football) really well is a strategy that should be re-visited.
Obviously, I don't know all the details of the divorce, but at this point I'm not giving this coaching staff the benefit of the doubt when it comes to player attrition.
That's to easy of cover up. We had a talented back we didn't utilize. Is that so hard to admit?
You really should go watch game film from their games. He has some pretty highlight worthy non blocks. Including one where he ran between two players and didn't even touch either one to slow down their rush.
I've watched him. I think he is a talented football player.
Glad to see Travon having a great senior season.
(By the by, Peoples is averaging more yards per carry than Travon this season and has the same number of rushing TDs.)
(But has only half of the attempts, so maybe he should get the ball more)
Not bad for us at all. When good players leave and succeed elsewhere that's not a problem.
Peoples would like a word...
8.5 yards per carry against GT
7.1 against ND
7.8 against ODU
VT runs the ball well when the other team is focused on stopping the pass?
Trevon wouldn't be The feature back at VT because People's runs just as well plus he blocks and catches better.
Just noticed Peoples does really well when we lose.
He does well all the time. I hate seeing other backs in there for more than a play or two.
I'm not going to do any hand-wringing over him having success somewhere else if he wasn't doing anything at Tech. I think the running back situation is okay, just needs a player to really breakout.
Our last 1000 yard rusher wasn't doing anything?
His contribution was in a steady decline after his freshman season, far short of 1000 yards. He was pretty replaceable by the time he left.
Travon wanted a bunch of touches and to shine, which he can, but when it was a read play or he needed to pass/run block he seemed uninterested. Glad to see him succeed but he wasn't going to here.
He ran a lot of wildcat last night and missed the read on each play. I think the pass play was a pass the whole way.
Travon was the most talented offensive player on our team last year. Glad he's doing well in Colorodo
I think you missed about 17 o's in Colorado
Also forgot about a guy named Cam Phillips
Gotta love being spell checked on an internet forum.
I'm glad Travon is running like freshman Travon, again. I'm also glad Peoples is starting to run like Galax Peoples, again.
Galax Peoples plus 40 pounds.
Isnt colorado a classic running offense with limited asks for him to pass block? Glad he is doing well, but a lot of that has to do with finding a system he fits in
Now if only we find a system that fits us
Travon threw a pass last night out of the Wildcat. It was incomplete but still
I'm glad Travon is doing well. He fits into Colorado's run game better. He's a good runner when he gets the right blocks. In our new scheme he didn't fit in as well.
I was concerned about running back recruiting because the combination of under performing backs and the good performance of your transfer back could be used against you.
With Peoples performing well and King and Gary coming in we may be set up to turn the corner. If either King or Gary put up give performances we may be able to start making the case for the resurgence of RBU.
I miss the days of RBU
They were awesome. We had a some good backs pre Lee Suggs but starting with Suggs we were getting GREAT backs.
Still can't block.
McMillion is in a better situation, for him and us. Happy to hear of the Dragon succeeding.
McMillan is better than Peoples. Total yds matters more than ypc. I like Peoples, but he's more of a FB/RB hybrid vs a true RB. Another thing I disagreed with Fuente on was (no pun intended) running Dragon out of here. Feel like it did more harm than help to the team.
In evaluating the productivity of the individual player I have to disagree.
That's fine. Agree to disagree. But I do believe by the end of the season, the percentage of the TDs category will favor McMillan (& possibly the ypc as well).
I think so much of this is incorrect.
The bottom line, regarding the "total yards theory", is that McMillian is an all or nothing back. What I mean by that is he isn't moving the chains for you like Peoples will. Certainly he is a home run threat. But consistency is not his gift.
In any event, I'm really happy for Travon and I'm glad to have Peoples, I just wish Fuente would give him more carries.
Like it or not, total yardage is a sexier stat & one that NFL scouts & analysts will pay attention to.
*McMillion
I bet everybody who's saying "still can't block" hasn't watched a snap of Travon this year.
Not saying he can, or that I've watched him either, but it just screams the kind of thing you say to get an anonymous dig in at somebody on the internet and not really be questioned about it.
I have watched a few games and can confirm "He still can't block".
Samesies. OP with a pretty condescending comment.
We going to rehash this every month?
1) Happy that McMillian found a good situation for himself
2) Our RB situation is not "pretty bad" Peoples is steamrolling folks left and right this season.
3) It wasn't that he clashed with Fuente, he clashed with with coaches and players. He is not missed in our locker room.
I'm sure he's glad with the decision he made. Right now we look like a dumpster fire.
Colorado is tied for last in the PAC 12 South.
And they still have a better record than we do.
not apples to apples. different offense, different line, different opponents.
cant just pick up an RB and insert him anywhere.
You know, I stopped paying any attention to this guy after he left Virginia Tech.
I see the point you're attempting to make, but the situations are just so different that I just don't care.
