One Note that won't be in either of my two film reviews

This week will feature two film reviews- one for the entire site looking at how some young players stepped up, while execution errors by some veterans ended up hurting the defense. The second review will look at the discussion around play calling by Brad Cornelsen versus execution being an issue on offense and will be for our TKPC members.

One item that won't make the review- I have major concerns about Shibest continuing to use three linemen on personal protectors on the punt coverage team. While protection has been solid, the Hokies have been hurt several times when Bradburn kicks a returnable ball. Given that VT is basically playing 6 on 10 in the open field with the three personal protectors and punter lagging behind, that isn't a surprise.

Go Hokies - hang tough.

Besides the lucky bounces on the 72 yd punt, seemed Bradburn was lacking some leg the past two games. distance and hang-time didn't look great in the last two.

I will be honest, Bradburn has not impressed me with his punting. Unless they are training and telling him to only kick into our coverage area, I am not sure he has kicked a 50 yard plus ball (not counting the roll of DOOOOMMM!).

Has anyone blocked one of his punts this year? (I'm not positive, but I don't think so) he's got that going for him - which is nice.

Definitely, and a constant 40 yard kick where our coverage team is in place before it lands is also nice. But there have been some times when I would have liked to have seen a 50-60 yard punt to back the other team up past the 40...

Fuente mentioned him practicing directional rolling kicks against good return men

I thought he was trying something that is a little like a rugby style punt. Meant to go low bounce forward and be hard to catch/return.

His second punt Saturday went 72 yards after the bounce with no return. It stopped at the BC 8 yard line. Flipped field position.

I'm a little concerned with his punting after last year's showing as well. As dumb as it sounds, I expected him to be a difference maker on this team.

I'll say I was very impressed with how the younger defenders stepped up against BC.

I saw Floyd bust a few plays for sure. On Levy's TD run, I thought Floyd was out of position On that TE touchdown over the middle, I wasn't sure whether the deep middle was his or or Rodgers. Given he was a veteran playing in his natural position, I thought he faired worse than the other young guys in the back seven on Saturday.

Floyd was killing me on Saturday. I expect him to be on the ball. (heh)

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Can't wait for the play calling deep dive, really glad to be getting some insight there. Across football, it's what fans get most mad about (well, maybe behind the refs) and yet hardly anyone knows what the hell they're talking about.
