Is 2018 the year of the backup?
It just seems like there have been so many backups stepping up and making some noise.
Or... Maybe we've just felt the wrath of the backup more than most.
Regardless... Not a result I saw coming.
I guess in college football anything can happen and that is why it's so much fun to watch.
Go Hokies!

I'm gonna talk so much shit at the office tomorrow! State fans have been hyping this season up as their best in school history. Sad thing is it still has the potential to be.
Update: I've been telling everyone "Go Deacs" instead of good morning. This is fun.
Yeah but only because without the WVU game they play one of the easiest P5 schedules. Just have to play Clemson and a decent Cuse team. Beat BC without Dillon by 5 and have the easiest 3 game stretch in college football with Louisville, UNC, and ECU. 9-3 shouldn't be impressive for them.
Yeah, that's what I've been telling everyone, but if they win out and then win their bowl game it will be their second 10-win season in school history. I'm hoping they lose to UNC.
I actually don't hate State more than some other ACC schools, but really have gotten annoyed that they have been stealing key NC recruits over the past few years. Watching the game, could have really used guys like Alim McNeill, De'von Graves, Ricky Person, and Savion Jackson this year.
Their ceiling is so much lower than Tech's but due to the big NFL draft they had last year they are starting to catch up to us in recruiting.
I will never forgive them for beating us in 2004 when Pace just missed that field goal. That was a terrible loss.
Especially since we got screwed with that FG attempt. We spike the ball with the LOS at the 24, then the refs spot the ball at the 27 after the spike. One of the worst ref errors I've ever seen at at VT game.
I looked the game up on hokietapes and you're exactly right. Randall ran to the 24, spiked it on the next play, and then magically the ball is set at the 26 or 27. TV never shows a press box angle. Unreal.
Don't know if you can really call it "State stealing recruits" when they are the in state school.
WOLFPACK AIN'T PLAYED NOBODY, PAAAAWWWWLLLL!
Tell them that they got beat by a team that once lost to a school for the blind and deaf.
#goacc
Went to the game last night and Wake absolutely dominated the line is scrimmage against States offense. It was really strange that State kept running the same Stretch play over and over. Wake slanted hard to the play side every time and committed 7-8 defenders on that one side and State kept running into it.
State also had three golden opportunities in the red zone and settled for field goals. They really beat themselves in a pretty inexcusable loss.
Those that think this only happens to VT can rest easy, it happens to a lot of teams throughout the season. Wake Dave seems to have State Dave's number
I think Dave Dorean is doing a pretty solid job with recruiting and player development (definitely punching above NC State's weight class), but he is a terrible in-game coach. Also, Dave Clawson is underrated. I think a bigger school will give him a shot in the next few seasons.
Something about that seems oddly familiar...
dave: The Dave expert.
Madden Voice: You got a Dave here, a Dave over there, I'm a Dave, and boom you got a victory for a Dave
College football is a great sport
This thread has more Daves than UVA had fans at their Spring Promenade Sock Hop.
It's the season of the back up, don't get it twisted. Tua, Lawrence, Ian book, ODU QB, it's the first season I can remember, where the guy on the bench starts and keeps the job over a guy that's still on the roster, and so many of these dudes are making big differences on their teams.
Remember when UVA was really pumped and thought they were good for keeping close with NC State and beating Miami? NC State is now 6-3 (3-3) and Miami is 5-4 (2-3). We all suck. Reminds me of the 2008 season so much.
Living in Raleigh?
Yeah, that was a good result last night. Love it when reality smacks the Wolfpeckers in the face.
Why is this year the ACC just assassinating each others ranked teams for fun?
Its like how the SEC does it, but we still managed to stink shit up in OOC, so not quite to that level. (seriously, State avoiding WVU has done more for their perception this year than anything they've done on the field)
The difference is that the advanced rankings tend to think the SEC teams are closer to being properly ranked.
S&P+ has BC at #38 compared to 16 in CFP
Syracuse at #58 compared to 13 in CFP
NC State at #40 compared to 14 in CFP
Who would have thought it was the ACC teams being grossly overrated by human bias?
Because advanced metrics don't think any of the ACC teams should be ranked outside of Clemson.
All the ACC needs now is for BC to dust Clemson on Saturday for the KO punch.
This would be an awesome thing, we'd then only need BC to win out to go to the ACCCG and then let one of the crazy coastal teams win, preferably us! That would be epic goACC!
Last night was just State doing State things...I am not surprised!
