Brad Cornelson thinks it's "execution errors" when he calls a 3 yard screen play on 3rd & 16 down 20+ points.
Brad Cornelson thinks it's fair to play call for one year at a G5 (after having losing seasons as an OC at a D3 school), then go straight to P5.
Brad Cornelson thinks he's hot shit because he had a record setting year with the old regime's players and a great JUCO QB (that got bad draft advice).
I realize this might be a bad look, but it's my way of venting, and I think we can have some clever comments in here, since he does seem to be the coach we're trying to beat each game (aka win in spite of...)

"HEY! That coach is my buddy! 😡"

Brad Cornelson's offense has only scored more than 30 points against one P5 team this year (Duke, 31), despite playing in the worst division in football.
Brad Cornelson's offense has only scored more than 24 points against 4 P5 Teams in the last 2 years.
Damn..... that stings....
I like the part of his game plan where he uses Peoples in the run game, finds some success, and then immediately forgets about it for the remainder of the game. Just the type of 4D chess we need.
"but they'll never see it coming if we hand him an inside counter on 3rd and 23"
lmao
True. Most DC's would think that is beyond stupid. So I guess that's a form of misdirection.
Brad Cornelson put's ketchup on steak, and then he puts a shitty offense on the field.
That Kansas Chiefs QB does that and every ketchup manufacturer is sending him free stuff. It's nasty.
I heard that on the radio the other day, and it makes me sad.

What makes me sad is that he has the income to buy some delicious-ass cuts of steak and then on goes the ketchup...god I'm hungry now.
490G's a year.

Brad Cornelson thinks we should waste QPs redshirt
Brad Cornelsen and Bryan Stinespring sip wine at a Charlottesville winery every Sunday, admiring the mountain view and chatting about.... Nothing, Stiney is giving him his weekly spanking.
Good one...they are secretly working for UVA
* Cornelson thought it was cool to share play calling duties before heading on up to the P5
I know some TKP veterans are gonna come in here and say this is a bad look and we shouldn't do this...
But...you just gotta let the people vent, man. Can't blame em either, Corn is bad.
It's not like this site is an official VT site. "Bad look" doesnt mean much really.
"Bad look" is the shit that Corn calls an offense
I'll admit, I'm a little disappointed to see this here. I don't think it is unwarranted, I just don't think I have any desire to engage in this.
What should we do then? Create a "real" vent thread, mire in the open toxicity; you know that's what would have gone up otherwise (or worse, nothing at all due to apathy)? I think this is a little healthier than full-blown venting.
There is nothing unhealthy about a vent thread. Quit the opposite. People who feel the need to express their negative feelings have a place to do do. People who don't like vent threads don't have to read them as they are clearly marked. They are quite healthy and equitable.
In my personal opinion, go out for a run, spend time with your family, mix a stiff drink, or anything. We all know that this season has been disappointing.
I don't think we need to blow off steam, we're just taking cheap shots right now. There is currently a two Corn vent threads on my tracker, a third thread "Is this bad?", and a few others I could see turning toxic quick.
If you think a thread adds value, start it. I rarely click into these threads anymore as they are really circle jerky to me and just seem like turkey leg grabs. Nothing constructive is happening here.
If people post and read it adds value. It's a discussion board. Threads without value get no clicks and nobody reads them. They quickly disappear from the Active Discussions. It's totally organic and self regulating.
Ahhhh circle jerky....the very worst kind of jerky.
I peed a little laughing.
This isnt necessary
Yes it is. We are a rescheduled game away from having a 25 year bowl streak snapped, a long with the commonwealth cup. This shit isn't checkers
But it is wanted.
And warranted
Sometimes it is okay to just let people vent. Let them get it out of their system.
Brad, is that you?
Please don't downvote guys, all people have their opinions. As long as they all feel like our OC is a terrible pile of garbage that needs to be put in the dumpster ASAP, it's a fair opinion.
I like the way that Cornelson thinks that the first down marker is more of a suggestion than a requirement on third downs.
Corny gives a heck of a halftime pep-talk. Hokies outscored 78-14 in 3rd Qtr since Duke game.
sadtrombone
It is clear that other teams are adjusting at halftime to what the offense and defense are doing, as should be expected.
The defense is so young and inexperienced that Bud cannot really adjust on the fly to those halftime adjustments. Add to that, they get worn down by being constantly on the field, so it gets out of hand.
The offense doesn't have that excuse.
We've actually won TOP two out of the last 3 games. Not sure the defense being worn down applies
It's more a matter of depth and them being worn out by lack of depth than TOP. That and younger players who haven't had as much time in the weight room and conditioning as most other teams that are playing Jrs and Seniors.
They don't have to keep the ball long to run the ball outside the tackles for 10-30 yards every play
I like the way this offense makes me want to stab myself in the appendix
Bring back pro-style
If we're going to go slow and play ball control might as well.
Cornelson gets the scoring rules of golf and football confused.
Cornelson believes that if you don't have a plan, then you cannot fail.
We are a miracle fumble and 90+ yard TD drive away from having a 6 game losing streak
Cornelson believes the miracle fumble was his play call.
Cornelson thinks the Hokies' bowl streak is unfair to the remainder of college football teams.
We're a competent offensive coordinator away from being an actual football team
I don't think so. That might be true in 2012, 2014 and 15 when we actually were a competent OC away from being an actual football team but the cracks in the team seem more fundamental and widespread this time. I'm not talking about a young defense, but Fuente seems...off in a way that Beamer and co. never were even in his twilight years.
There are numerous deficiencies with this team and staff; youth, depth, injury, and inexperience are some of those things. However, the offensive ineptness of this "high power offense" lies directly on Corns shoulders. The other things I am certain will improve drastically over the off season, but Corn hasn't shown any evidence that has me believing that the offense will improve
Can we not take a fun, light-hearted thing like Hatin' On and turn it into this? Just make the vent thread and move on.
This site has become the vent thread. I.e. there is no more fun to be had when we are this bad lol.
I think this IS the vent thread
I'm trying to moderate it! lol
THIS IS AN ELITE-LEVEL THREAD, TKP.
Not sure if sarcasm, but if not, I love the endorsement! I mean, this is going to be a mean thread, but I want it to be light-hearted as well...
That's the spirit I took your post in. We knew there would be a vent thread, so making it a Hatin' On thread was a great idea. Now we can joke and laugh our way through our misery instead of taking it out on each other.
Well done, VTMiner.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I don't want to divide TKP or cause a massive downvote-fest (I've upvoted pretty much every comment, except for the "Shane Beamer for coach" comment, because really?), but I thought this would be a good way to get it out humorously.
This is 100x better then a negative vent thread with everyone insulting each other.
This is true. I had an epic, paragraphs-long rant all typed out, but because it was a hatin' on thread and not a vent thread, I deleted it.
Also because I didn't want to get arnie'd or worse
I was afraid of the arnie-dcwilson level punishment, but everything seems to be going good...
Honestly, I didn't mind this thread. Then again I cope with grief with humor.
Cornelson's "Hatin' On" thread has more turkey legs than the sum of all points his offenses have scored.
Remember when we thought it couldn't get any worse than Lefty?
No. People apparently forgot ocainspring quickly if they ever truly thought that
When you've got people thinking about the good old days of a Stiney offense, you know you've hit rock bottom.
Fuente stands more still and rigid on the sidelines than the Frank Beamer statue outside of Lane Stadium stands. Oops!!! Wrong guy.
BAD 99! Only Corny...and maybe Vice (with technique)
haha
Instead of jumping during Sandman next week, everyone should just stand up and cross their arms in unison while intensely chewing bubble gum. Start chewin'!
Please!?! TKP make it happen
Seriously, Fuente's non-verbals did not look good. He is worried and should be.
Because that's what the camera shows you but it's not remotely true. What would you like him to be doing once the offense or defense lines up turn his back to the field and talk to some players on the sidelines? Fuente gets emotional yells at refs, yells at players, gets excited with players and coaches when big plays happen( that hasn't happened a lot this year). This "Fuente isn't emotional enough" stupidity is old and tiresome.
Do Hokie fans really want Fuente to act like that ass-clown coach from Pitt? Do you really want our coach throwing childish fits on the sideline?
Hmm, didnt realize Narduzzi was the only other option lmao. Come on, life isnt so black and white. Thats a straw man.
You are correct, Koastal, Narduzzi is not the only other option. But the real straw man is the assertion that Fuente never shows emotion...as evidenced by his tackle of Bud Foster a few weeks back (and many other examples). Personally, I would rather have a coach who controls himself and keeps his cool under pressure.
That's not a strawman though. That's just being wrong.
Cornelson is the type of OC that is setting up plays this year for NEXT YEAR. Everyone on our schedule next year will have tape of plays that will allow him to call in the REAL plays he wants to use. That is a hell of a long con
Worried about where he's going to jump ship to?
Cornelson wants Tech to be a basketball school
Corn is working hard on a play for next week featuring the entire offense running out of the tunnel, down Beamer Way, and into the south end zone from the back before LOLUVA's defense can stop them.
Cornelson is jealous of our 0-0 score with Wake a few years ago.
Shane Beamer is on Lincoln Riley's staff right now. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
When I die I want Cornelsen to lower me into my grave so he can let me down one last time
I smiled for the first time since kickoff when I read that
Lol thanks for my first laugh tonight.
Cornelson thinks it is just a coincidence that his offense set records in his first year, before any opposing teams had tape on his play-calling, scheme, and tendencies.
"scheme" of fooling us all
His scheme was having a battering ram of a quarterback
Which was similar to previous VT offensive schemes.
What? The play didn't work? No problem. QB run.
DW, RW, DE, LS, KJ, BO. We were able to run the ball pretty consistently for almost a decade. I thought we were getting back to that with Dragon's 1000 yard year, but he didn't block well enough for Corny's awful plays. But we have a walk on fullback though
Peoples can pass block and pass catch pretty damn well.
Cornelson wants the NCAA to implement the same offsides rules as in soccer so that there is less offensive scoring.
Elite Level Resume:
The bottom row on the right side appears like it was accidentally cut off. I believe it reads, "December 13, 1991 - 1998, Home, Played Tecmo Super Bowl Every Summer*"
"*Won Super Bowl in 10th Season"
OMG I lol'd
Brad Cornelsen thinks half time adjustments are overrated.
Brad Cornelsen wants "Enter Sandman" replaced with "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" next week
Cornelson doesn't want to miss bingo night on December 1, 2018.
Cornelsen is a better 3rd quarter playcaller than he is recruiter.
.....not wrong actually
Brad Cornelsen told Willis to throw into robber coverage.
Brad Cornelsen told Hazelton to fumble that ball.
Brad Cornelsen told the punt coverage team that they don't really need to get within ten yards of an electric return man when the ball is rolling.
Am I doing this right?
Almost right, but you forgot to add this in:
and this
and this
You put your players in bad positions because of how poorly the offense is doing, they get tight, and things get out of hand quickly.
Touche
Brad Cornelsen coaches Ryan Willis.
So this is the vent thread?
Why was Bud in the booth? Isn't he normally on the sideline?
He had the hershey squirts, needed to be near a bathroom.
As horrible as this season has been, I kind of hope it ends as soon as possible so that Bud can take a deep breath, relax a little, and get ready to get back to work for next season. That guy has probably aged ten years during the last seven or so weeks.
Apparently was sick, doctors recommended he stay in the booth, according to the post game presser on Facebook.
He's also going through a divorce. #blacksburgsocialcirclesauces
Whoa. That's rather significant news...
I know the defense is having a down year, but damn!!! That's no reason to leave a man. /s
Seriously, though. That sucks and I wish him the best with all of that.
Cornelson believes his top priority is to take care of our guests when they visit Lane Stadium, by literally giving them control of the entire stadium.
Why does the offense go into a freeze and they are unable to score from the second quarter to garbage time? This has happened four games in a row. Fuente says it is not play calling. Ok. But it is a theme an I cannot figure it out.
Please rephrase your vent in the form of a "Hatin' On" comment :P
My guess is that Fuente is watching the film with Cornelsen and putting together some sort of a "choose your own adventure" like game plan. If they do x, we do y. We come out hot, until the defense adjusts. After that, the call matrix is broken. There probably is not enough time during half time for Fuente to make all the right adjustments. A lot of that should be happening during the game and should be done by the OC. I am not convinced Cornelsen functions as a true P5 OC.
This thought has crossed my mind as well. If true then the decision to cut ties is easy because there is an obvious level of ineptitude.
My other thought is that the early scripted plays are practiced to the point the players are quick to react. Once we get off script, players think more and execute less.
This makes a lot of sense. It ties into the "execution" explanation. It also fits into the "predicted outcomes" mantra.
I have also noticed this. It started in the first drive of the FSU game. It seemed almost the whole drive was a series of scripted plays for every first down. They had rehearsed it and had it down pat. I've seen other times this year such as the UNC 90 yd drive where they had a literal script for a 2 minute drill or whatever and they executed it to much success. But other than that....welll...."execution" issues.
That makes me a little more confidence that the issues are execution based...
It's gotten so bad, that I have sympathy messages from GT and Clemson alums. On websites not even related to sports.
I got one tonight from a Miami alum...
Cornelson believes that Virginia Tech's control of college football in the Commonwealth of Virginia is too large; to the point of violating anti-trust laws.
Cornelson has stock in ACC Network Extra.
Whoa now!
Cornelson gets uncomfortable around large crowds. He would prefer if Lane Stadium simply supported a Small Group.
You're killing it with this lol
He prefers golf claps to loud, cheering fans
Cornelson is getting paid by a 3rd party inspection company to inspect the concrete surfaces throughout Lane Stadium. The problem is that he thought it would be a more efficient use of his time to perform the inspections during the games.
Cornelson thinks Fu hasn't kicked enough starters off the team yet this year. Next man up!
Gotta get rid of Ricky and Vinny next, then they can use the "youth" excuse some more!
Scot Loeffler - "you'll be fine. You couldn't possibly be worse at this than i was."
Brad Cornelson - "Hold my beer..."
Cornelson doesn't like the traffic congestion in Southwest Virginia on game days.
Brad Cornelson thinks turnovers count as an assist.
Hokies lose 4 straight games at home in a season for the first time ever:
"I told you we'd bring record breaking offense!" - Fuente & Corn
Cornelson thinks the provision in his contract that applies to the bonuses he receives for breaking records applies to all records broken.
To the Bon Jovi tune 'you give love a bad name'
One yard draw
Pass for no-gain
Corny gives us no chance
To move the chains
Cornelson thinks he does a great job every first quarter. So he leaves the booth, gets a turkey leg and a $5.50 collector cup drink. He is puzzled why he gets a 50 cent piece back in change. Gets back to the booth and everyone wonders why he left for 2 quarters and we're losing...again. Brad Cornelson enjoys his turkey leg and figures he might need a dairy club milkshake to wash it down. Vanilla it is. At the end of the game, Cornelson doesn't understand why everyone gives him dirty looks. He'd buy them a turkey leg too if they would just ask.
50 cent piece... two quarters. I see what you did there. I think.
This is the first year where I've felt like the fans care more about winning than the team.
That's 100% on the coaches.
Justin "paycheck" Fuente made me chuckle
Third highest paid coach in the ACC and #24 in the country.
But didn't you hear? We don't have the donor base to expect wins. Definitely not enough to expect to not get railroaded by teams like BC, GT, or Pitt
A Wake Forest grad assistant stole Cornelson's playbook for revenge, but nobody wanted it.
The first series was in CJFs handwriting and the rest was done in crayon
Who's drunk and has two thumbs?

Working on a vanilla Porter, whatcha got?

Brad Cornelson makes me think that Bud could've brought in a better OC.
to get through each game, we need whiskey and a 12 pack per person....CornFu is overrated....
The alcohol has worn off and no energy left to vent. Just hope 2018 Hokie football is over soon. Please let 2019 be a better year for the Hokies.
Brad Cornelson drives a beat up 90s model Camaro with a vanity license plate that reads 3rd and 9.
thought it said "EXECUTE"
Hilarious! hahaha
Awesome! But I have actually seen his car on Campus several times and his plates clearly read "RCRDBRKR" except that the tags expired in 2016.
And he drives a mid-2000's Camry, the World's most reliable car, just so he never has to make any adjustments.
I had to share...this is savage.. 😂
Does the VT athletic department qualify as a non-profit?
Maybe, but probably not on purpose.
Bred corn gotta go bro
Brad Cornelson bought the domain rights to firebradcornelson.com
Fuente's gotta know that his reputation as an offensive mind is on the line, right? Like, seriously, if he doesn't make some changes this off season it's his career down the tube. Does he really think it's worth a friendship to damage his own career?
He might. I doubt his living expenses are that high in B'Burg and he can't realistically be fired until 2020. So... He's probably banked nearly $4.5M. I'm assuming almost 50% in taxes. That's good enough to retire on for most people. It's not like someone else won't hire him. He's still be making multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars a year somewhere.
It would speak volumes about his value system. These jobs aren't for everyone.
You know, i know were all pissed off, but, im sorry, this is a sour grapes, my mom just took my best toy, reaction post.
Theres no way fuente thinks this way. If he did he would never get to this level in coaching. Its not in his dna.
Yes changes are needed, i bet they r coming. We need to just keep payin close attention and keep letting them know, but this is silly.
On another note, fuente n babcock need to send a message to hokie nation. That msg should be between now n friday.
Side note, JUST as I read this I received an email from Annual Giving (though the From: name was Frank Beamer).
They really do have the p!ss-poorest timing I've ever seen.
Over Paid and Bald to a point of being Dull.. Corny I guess..
After theee years in Blacksburg, Brad Cornelson still doesn't have a moonshine hook-up. Blames the lack of 'shine on Franklin county's inability to execute.
This is gold.
Even though we can't do it, B C thinks zone blocking is all the rage and will try it on this website.
Brad Cornelson thinks that after getting 3 straight first downs on tempo calls, that we should then slow it down to give the defense time to catch up, thus gaining no more yards on the drive and punting.
No matter how sweet Corn started out, after some digestion, it's easy to see that he's full of shit.
Cornselson gets a raise? I've heard reports that opposing teams defensive coordinators in the coastal have actually put him on the payroll.
Corn eats hard boiled eggs and beef jerky for lunch everyday
Brad Cornelson roots for Wile E. Coyote to catch the Road Runner.
So did/do I.
Fuck the Roadrunner. Persistence is one of the highest virtues.
Brad Cornelson has a sign in his office that says "Better Offense Next Year."
Stiney wants to know if we miss him now
nope. still don't.
Brad Cornelson wants to name his offense "Non-Lethal Complexity".
