It's been a rough season. We all know the challenges we face. Some of us, including myself, have been very critical of the product on the field.
When things aren't going well it's easy to name all the reasons we can't win.
One thing that is necessary at those times, in order to succeed, is to name all the reasons we can win.
So I'll start.
- The defense IS getting better every week. Guys like Hollifield are growing into better leaders by the day.
- This is THE game of the year as of now. I think the coaches are going to pull out all the stops.
- Steven Peoples is running harder than I have seen a tech back run in a long time. He's straight up knocking peoples teeth out. That's going to be important in demoralizing a good UVA defense.
- Ryan Willis, regardless of his faults, plays like hell 60 minutes a game. I think his relationship with the team grew at the end of the Miami game. He played hard. The OL defended him. Sometimes those experiences galvanize a teams interpersonal dynamics and makes it clear they are all on the same side
- UVA has had a pretty easy schedule this year. Richmond, Indiana, Ohio, Louisville and Liberty are a good way to pickup 5 wins and build confidence. That's not to say UVA isn't a good team but they played a lot of bad teams.
- And the #1 reason we can win: WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH
GO HOKIES!

The entire UVa team eats a batch of bad sushi combined with undercooked chicken the night before the game.
I hope not. There was a game in which one team had food poisoning and actually transferred it to the other team. I think it was FSU/Duke.
Pretty sure food poisoning isn't airborne contagious
You're right, its not. But allegedly the close contact cause bodily fluids to be exchanged.

Unbelievable story, thx for sharing!
Alright, what was really going on in the scrum?
NICE!
I like it.
we win this game because (and I am not wishing an injury on anyone, this is more of a prediction), Perkins gets absolutely hammered with a perfectly legal hit and he's out of the game starting midway through the first quarter. Without him under center, Anae has no idea what to do and we waltz to a comfortable 3 TD win with 2 defensive TDs.
I know it's bad, but when an opposing player gets inured I think, "I hope he's back to 100% 1 minute after the end of the 4th".
We always just want the player to have to sit out the rest of the game, but not be injured enough for his mommy to get too upset about it.
I hope he just gets unlucky and throws a few picks.
It's sad that we have to rely on the opposing QB being "unlucky" to get picks this year.
What is the definition of "unlucky" anyway. Misreading robber coverage? Hitting a receiver in the hands and deflecting the pass into our defenders. Making an ill advised throw while going down? Isn't that pretty much how it works every year?
Excellent point. The only one that really qualifies as "unlucky" is a receiver deflecting the pass into our defender's hands.
So allow me to correct:
I hope he
just gets unlucky andthrows a few picks.I'll also settle on any of their ball handlers fumbling the ball and VT recovering it.
Key, that wasn't directed at you. I know what you meant.
It was more of an observation based on:
I think we can all agree sometimes it's better to be lucky than good (see 2017 Miami Hurricanes).
Oh, I didn't take it wrong. I think you're 100% spot on.
But I don't care how it happens. As long as it happens. This is one year I'll take luck or anything else.
He doesn't have to get hurt. If you consistently pressure/hit him, he'll fall apart. It's how Pittsburgh beat him. Regardless of how little faith Bud has in this defense, he must blitz Perkins like this was the 2006 defense. Even if Perkins manages to evade some blitzes and make plays early, we have to keep pressuring him. If we do that, he will make critical mistakes, and we'll have an opening to win.
I'm somewhat encouraged with how much we got to Perry last weekend. I'm not sure we've created more QB pressure since September. My biggest worry is Perkins squirting through the pressure into the open field all day, but we'll just have to live or die by that.
I think you can expect a heavy diet of some of qb follows. Bottom line shut down the run and make that kid beat you passing.
Perkins was in a walking boot after GT so maybe he won't be as effective running the ball. I agree with what everyone has said though. I'd be willing to take risks and blitz and bet that he won't identify an open receiver in time.
Perkins is extremely elusive, and seems to shine on busted plays by finding Llama Day, Jana or the other guy I can't remember because those receivers know what to do when he's scrambling. Gotta stay on them and not get sucked into chasing the ball and leaving them space. That'll be tough.
D touchdown? What's that?
In the year of Backup QB hell, you wish this upon us?
selhini. I have not been able to get behind some of your critical comments during this season but this post's line of reasoning is golden and I fully back you on this one!
Go HOKIES!
Win and win B I G !
I appreciate the support.
Selhini's criticism has been by far the most level headed and data driven of the more frequent critics on the board this season. By far a net positive to the discussion here at a time when a lot of people just want to straight up piss and moan.
I appreciate the recognition.
FYI: My initial comment of not being able to get behind your criticisms during the season was meant somewhere between not caring for the bitter truth and disagreeing with your assessments. No personal attack was intended.
Above all, I meant to get behind your post today.
Go HOKIES!
None taken. Given this is a community that promotes discussion any participation in opposition or support is valuable. It would take a lot for me to take something personally.
Having said that I'm happy to you have on board for this post!
Momentum, who knows how this team will look if they find it.
All it takes is getting some good mojo; belief that good plays are going to happen, belief that this team will execute, belief that players will win one-on-one battles, belief that the principles from practice are going to work etc.
Go Hokies, beat UVA
THEY WILL NEVER KNOW VICTORY IN LANE, EVER.
I call upon the Curse of 1998 to ensure this
What's the curse of the 1998 season? I remember the terrible loss to Temple at home, the Donovan McNabb throw back across the field for the TD against Syracuse in that stupid dome but I don't remember anything off about the game vs UVA, but it's been 2 decades so my memory is a little rough sometimes.
Last time they won in Blacksburg, and in similarly heartbreaking fashion (we blew a 29-7 lead and I don't wanna talk about it anymore)
You should add Josh Jackson to your signature's list. As of right now, they haven't beaten him.
I don't add QBs till they're out of the program. I'm a little stitious.
please no one else leg the main post... i want it to stay at +25 for superstition sake
OK, I will leg you instead. ;>)
my attempt appears to be in vain.....
Check again.
I just readjusted my leg to get back to 25.
Maybe there's a mod for that?
Glad I was one of the first 25 lol
I'm all about superstitions too, if someone could downvote my post It's Time To Rally one time that'd be great.
I got you Fam, but it sure was uncomfortable to downvote a thread I like lol I uplegged the above to offset
Thank you, even though that was uncomfortable, it was necessary!
Wish it didn't say "I've made OC", but I'll just pretend it stands for "Original Concept"
Long live the +25
Accept mine is now up to 27....Hey Joe lock us in at 25!!
Great - we could use a little help on the OC front - do you have any experience as a coordinator?
And then Cornelson will start running every other play that's not a Peoples run. Because Peoples had his chance. Other players need chances to touch the ball, too.
You know, I just realized something:
We've never lost to UVA since Colin Cowherd made his rant.
For UVA, it's the 'Curse of Colin'
With two additional Hokie football games and 15 years of tradition on the line, we rise up and find our manhood. Go Hokies.
Pep talks are great but I think this guy provides all the motivation necessary.
That kid is ridiculous, I've seen his posts on there before. Very annoying. Oh, and what the hell is an "elite hoo" anyway?
Don't know. Didn't think there was such a thing, at least not this millennium.
I think I saw one in the new grinch movie
An "elite hoo" is anyone who completes their first year and enjoys sipping wine on the Grounds during home football games. You can also recognize them by their air of superiority as they discuss what graduate school they attended/will attend to get prepared for a career.
Huh, I thought they all thought they were elite.
Am I the only one that wouldn't mind Lane Kiffin coming to Blacksburg? I feel like he's got a certain edge to him and he'd be a vast improvement over our current OC... IMO....
I'll take low information fans for $100 Alex.
We're going to win because Brad Cornelson anagrams to "Slander Bronco", which is what the UVA fanbase will be doing when our maligned offense hangs 60 on the board this Friday.
I thought this was a joke at first so I had to run it myself, but gosh darn if it isn't so. We're definitely winning now.
anagrams are no joke, hokie07me.
We're back down to 24! I swear there's a Hoo Saboteur among us!
Said the same thing in the other thread. Honestly though i'm laughing my butt off
To that guy:

I reset my leg to take it from 26 to 25. Have a mental Leg.
When you gotta downvote the UVA Homer Thread to keep it at +25
You'll feel better when we beat them by 25. Ultra karma if we win 25-0
especially since 25 is a very awkward number to hit, even more so when the other team isn't on the board. I guess maybe 2 TD's, one missed XP, and 4 FG's. Or 3 TD's, a missed XP, one FG, and one safety.
a friend and tech fan suggested that maybe letting the bowl streak die at 25 would be fitting. I told her very kindly that she was out of whack...

I was thinking Touchdown and then a 19 point conversion.
Posted in transfer thread- looks like we are not as fractured as some would think...
