Depends on how it's made. I've had terrible green bean casserole and good green bean casserole. Personally I prefer southern green beans with ham hocks and would consider that an excellent thanksgiving side dish.

Stuffing. Lately I've been using sourdough, but one day I will take my Yankee ass to cornbread stuffing land. Real cranberry sauce, not canned. And green bean casserole (see: Yankee ass)

My family makes a dish we call Pineapple-y Stuff. (A friend of mine makes one similar he calls hot pineapple.) It is milk, eggs, sugar, butter, torn up chunks of bread and pineapple tidbits and is amazing.
It isn't Thanksgiving without pineapple'y stuff.

To snack before the meal, my favorite thing is pecans toasted in butter brown sugar and salt. Mashed potatoes, yeast raised dinner rolls, and green bean casserole are the top sides.

My great aunt is Indian and she would always make this noodle dish that had a perfect amount of heat.
No idea what it's called so my picks are sweet potato casserole and spicy Indian noodle dish my great aunt makes and no one else in the US has on Thanksgiving

Tough call. Probably going to go with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and bourbon...and a God damned home cooked deep fried turkey...

My wife makes her grandmothers squash casserole. Somehow it's better than mac n cheese. It's a slice of home for these two southern transplants living in Wisconsin.

What the hell is wrong with so many people? The responses to Joe's tweeter question about the worst side! How in the hell can people hate sweet Potato's but love Mac and Cheese!!

My mother in law makes a mean crab meat mac and cheese. Marrying into a 757 family is legit.
Sweet potato pie
Sweet potatoes in brown sugar sauce
I'm going to share an unpopular opinion, but green bean casserole is ๐ฎ
My mom's Mac and cheese is what I'm going to miss most this Thanksgiving. It always makes me think of home.
GTFO!
^ 100%. Green bean casserole is teh suk. I finally convinced Mrs. OHokie to stop making it, then her sister moved here and started it back up.
You can GTFO too...

I agree on green bean casserole..... give me string beans cooked with bacon or fat back any time.
I like to add slices of crunchy roasted shallots to mine.
Hear, hear!!
I've never met a casserole that I actually liked. Casseroles are always the thing that I politely eat and tell the person who made it how great it is.
I'll have to go with deviled eggs. Done practically any way.
Just made my filling, gonna pipe it in tomorrow
We just made 54 eggs worth for our contribution to this dumb ass idea of a potluck Thanksgiving with store bought turkey. FML.
Dumplings.
My wifes Pineapple bread. Its the bomb.
That does sound good
Corn bread stuffing

Bourbon
This!
Bourbon pairs perfectly with any holiday, or any occasion or any after-work event, or any day that ends with the word "day"
Got a handle of it just for this occasion. Can't think of a better side to pair with inlaws and holiday plans you didn't want to have.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
But if we're talking actual food, I prefer spinach anything or greens of some sort, or asparagus sautรฉed in butter.

That's basically my wife's pineapple bread as mentioned above.
Pickled pepper man? Ches-a-pickles are to die for

Pulao. My very American wife, makes it way better than my own mother. And that's 100% truth.
Tough call. Probably going to go with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and bourbon...and a God damned home cooked deep fried turkey...
Bourbon & egg nog. It's so filling it might as well be a side dish.
My wife makes her grandmothers squash casserole. Somehow it's better than mac n cheese. It's a slice of home for these two southern transplants living in Wisconsin.
Blasphemy!
Seriously though. I love squash. I'm gonna need to know how that's made.
Dressing, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, homemade yeast rolls, cranberry salad, snickers salad.
Then Cool Whip with pumpkin pie and other assorted desserts.
HokieFireman gonna have a conniption seeing all these Macs and Cheese! Mac and cheese as an elite side dish is one of a few hills I will die on.
My favorite dessert is dark chocolate bourbon pecan pie. Stuffing is awesome too. Stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer.
I'll die on that hill with you.

OCEAN SPRAY WHOLE BERRY CRANBERRY SAUCE
Home made cranberry sauce!
My answer as well, it goes well with the Turkey, stuffing, etc.!
Brussels sprouts roasted in bacon fat and served with crumbled bacon.
This is the winner.
Homemade crescent rolls...and this year a growler of dogfish sixty one to wash them down.
Mac and cheese, my moms homemade rolls, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and brown sugar, pumpkin pie
Y'all about to downvote me but I'ma speak the damn truth. Regular potatoes are >>>>> sweet potatoes.
What kind of pie do "regular potatoes" make.
Shepherd's
That's a strange desert.
I'm not familiar with Shepherd's Desert either. Which continent is it on?
I am thankful that at the moment, 81 just looks like a normal road and I may actually make decent time to Blacksburg tonight.
I'm also thankful that nobody here will get after you for accidentally posting in the wrong thread.
Fried potatoes, sliced round and thin, fried in a cast iron skillet.
I also love cranberry sauce and turkey. Tonight we are having pressure cooker chicken and dumplings because we had turkey on Saturday.
