Virginia Tech over Virginia is Wawa vs. Sheetz: It's only fitting that the one state where the two convenience stores overlap is Virginia. And we're not saying Sheetz is bad. We're just saying there's no real competition here.
He's right. My kids love Sheetz, only because we get food from there more often because it's a block away from the house, but the food from Wawa is So. Much. Better. (If only it were closer than 15 minutes away.)

This is objectively false. Pennsylvania and Maryland also have both.
I came here to say this. They both started in Pennsylvania. Where we live, it's all Wawas and one Sheetz to the east (95 corridor) and one Wawa with all Sheetz to the west (81 corridor).
Sounds like someone woke up and said "you know what? I'm going to make a Wawa and Sheetz comparison and I need to make up a fact."
Wawa and Sheetz come dame close to each other in Sterling/Herndon area just up from my work.
There are two really close together in Woodbridge as well.
How widespread is Rutter's? Stopped at one and it was pretty good
I've only seen Rutter's in PA. It's not bad, but it is no Wawa or Sheetz.
I'm old school when it comes to gas station food - give me Eaver's Fried Chicken in Stuarts Draft, VA or any backroad country store's lunch, soup, chilli, sandwhiches, etc. over Sheetz or Wawa any day of the week.
Brugh's Mill off exit 155 on I-81 is always a solid choice too.
Here in Pennsylvania, Wawa (1964) is old school.
The retro one in Wildwood, NJ is pretty... interesting.
I was born in raised in Augusta county for 22 years and have never once eaten at Eaver's, might have to go give it a look.
Agreed. This would have been a better analogy for Pitt and PSU, although there is a significant gap in their match-up between 2000 and 2016. That, and they don't play on "Rivalry Weekend."
Ehhh.... It's more like 7-11 and Wawa. One just plain sucks, and always will.
Anyone know a convenience store chain that's been closed for 15 years?
Kwik-E Mart?
Who needs the Kwik-E Mart?
Their floors are sticky-mart.
Kenny Rogers Roasters.
Kenny never hurt anybody!
Neither has loluva's football team.
Circle K
??
Circle K still exists and is everywhere. Infact, they're no. 2 in number of stores in US, just behind 7-11.
https://csnews.com/top-100-convenience-store-chains-2018
Edit: The parent company is No. 2, and the list doesn't delineate which of the 7,000+ stores are Circle K. "On the Run" is the other major convenience store owned by the parent. Nevertheless, there are a lot of them. Wikipedia says 15,000+ world wide.
I grew up with Sheetz and I like it better...
You obviously didn't grow up with Wawa. ;^)
Sheetz has fried food, burgers, and fries... but Wawa has the superior coffee, sandwiches, etc.
I think the more fitting name for uva would be wahwah
I've left those places back East:
Now it's:

Or *snickering*
That being said, I choose Sheetz.
In some circles, the Kum and Go is affectionally known as the Jizz and Split or the Pump and Run
Squirt'N'Deli
Is this the next cake vs. pie debate?
Nope, as this one isn't subjective!

Sounds like NW has the Big Ten all locked up.
And who says preseason rankings don't matter?

Wawa is clearly better. My friends in Delaware still debate Wawa vs. Royal Farms and it's not even close, Wawa all day
Only thing RoFo has going for it is chicken.
Beyond that, they can't even call it the right thing. Shouldn't it be RoFa? And if the store is more than 3 hours old, it's trashy. Wawa for the win, all day long.
Check out any Wawa in Fredericksburg and you will be convinced otherwise.
I grew up with Sheetz, but after having moved to Richmond and working less than 1/4 mile away from a WaWa, I have to say their MTO selection is more expansive and better quality. I also apologize to my NJ college roomate who I chastised for talking about WaWa so much. He was right.
This whole debate is silly because they are both Gas Stations. I don't care how much better a sub is at WaWa than Sheetz, because Jersey Mikes is right down the road and that's where I am going to buy a sandwich. They only question is which food would you rather eat when drunk, because that is the only reason to go to either of these places. The correct answer is 7/11 because nothing is better than Go-Go Taquitos at 3am. But if all you have to choose from is WaWa or Sheetz at 3am, then Sheetz wins.
Hey now, I go to WaWa at lunch time from work and I'm only buzzed.
The work day starts for most at 8am. That should be plenty of time for you to turn a buzz into a future hangover.
I just keep the buzz going steady all day so people don't get suspicious on whether I'm "fit for duty" or not.
From day one on the job in the Army in Germany in '70, that was my tactic. Pretty much worked.
Sheetz is a gas station that sells "food" and some disgusting liquid they try to pass off as coffee.
Wawa is a deli that happens to sell gas. And even then, not all Wawas sell gas. The older ones don't have any pumps.
Shame on you sir!
I can't even tell you how many amazing sandwiches I bought late night at Wawa after moving back from VT and living not far off the UofD campus for a time.
Jersey Mikes is fine, Wawa is better because you got the sandwich, an ice tea, and Wild Bill beef jerky
I will fight you if you actually believe a Wawa sandwich is better than Jersey Mike's.
And you will lose :)
I hate to break it to you, but Jersey Mikes, Subway, Jimmy Johns, and Blimpie just aren't good
I won't get into how good or not good it may be. The point I had was it is better than Wawa subs. By leaps and bounds.
Jersey Mike's is actually pretty decent, in my experience
Based on my experience with the Blacksburg Jersey Mike, Subway and Jimmy Johns are both better.
Firehouse Subs are greater than all of the others combined.
When did the Burg get a Jersey Mike's?
Last summer over off South Main.
Jersey Mikes is my go to at the beach...
Every year we take a week long trip to Pawley's Island and one of my favorite "meals" all week, nay, I dare say all year.... is my lunch time Giant Club whilst sitting in a beach chair with a 50oz bottle of liquor drink in my water bottle.
Dude really? Go get Grouchos.

Or Lee's Farmer's market.

But which gas station sells the best sushi?
Have fun in the hospital after that taste test.
I'm sorry you don't have a decent sub shop in your town. If you'd like, I could try to help you bring a decent quality sub destination to your location. I usually try to help out the disadvantaged.
I'm a Firehouse guy myself but I'll just leave this here:
Wawa makes history and is voted America's favorite sandwich shop
Wawa over Sheetz any day.
Thank goodness nobody is for Subway, that place is disgusting
When I worked overnight at KD or midnight shift for Hanover all I had was WAWA and Sheetz( and Denny's at the hotel for a bit).
Which you'd only go to if you are driving your car
.... Am I the only one seeing the problem here?
Drink!
This debate is moot. Gaze upon the face of the true gas station god.
This is the only correct answer.
I just had WaWa for lunch and because of that I think debating whether it's WaWa or Sheetz that has the better food is akin to debating whether retriever poop or labrador poop tastes better. At the end of the day, you're still eating dog shit.
Thank you for distilling this down to the kernel of truth.
You failed to answer the question everyone is wondering, though: do you prefer retriever poop or Labrador poop?
Well, the Retrievers are the mascot for UMBC. And the Corps of Cadets now have a Labrador as an ambassador. Both UMBC and VT have pooped on loluva in the past few months, so I'd call it a toss-up.
This is just one of those things that no one will change their mind on. It's like game of thrones houses. You're born with an allegiance and that's that. The Lannister's (sheetz) and starks (Wawa) will always fight each other while no one gives a shit about Dorne (royal farms). Nothing's gonna change that. Except the white walkers north of the wall (Tim Hortons)
As for Tim Hortons, I've posted before, but it is a matter of ubiquitous mediocrity. Canada may have a lot to brag about, but TH isn't one of those things.
But. . . donuts.
I've never even seen a WaWa or a Sheetz.
SWVA/Blacksburg until '97 and Atlanta since then. I don't think I've ever lived in the footprint for either. I just checked for locations near me and the closest thing is Wawa Asian Spa in Atlanta. Is that what we're talking about? I'll have to go and see what the fuss is all about.
Probably not. The Wawa we're talking about doesn't give happy endings.
But you should definitely go see what the fuss is about there and report back. ;^)
I don't know...the way some people talk about Wawa on here you'd think they do
