Oh yes, very happy

Yes. Although to be fair the first post was the rumor he was retiring. This one is celebrating it.

We put the K in Kwality

I'll wait until the announcement. I won't believe it until the words are spoken by CPJ himself.

Yay! I know rumors like that tend to turn into truths, but I didn't want to jinx it by celebrating too early.

Just heard it on the radio on my way back from lunch and let out a big "wooohoo!"

Although, I am sad that Fuente will have a 0fer record against chinballs

Defensive Lineman and LB's across the ACC and beyond are dancing in this manner:

As is the ACC video review board. You know the GT opponents sent in a huge tape each Monday after playing CPJ's choppers.

Truth!

Hell, my knees even feel better now

Jeff Monken to GT, calling it now

Please God No. Let's ban the Triple Option from ACC play.

The article I read was all good news. Then I got to the last sentence...

"Army coach Jeff Monken, who also runs the triple option, could be in the mix as well."

Willie Fritz from Tulane would be a good choice as well.

Bud every knee in the ACC must be relieved.

I hope his knees bother him for the rest of his days.

I'm not gonna rejoice until they announce the new HC. Need it to be not a triple option team.

I hear Larry Fedora is looking for work, GT should hire him.

I'm not sure what the odds of hiring Ken Niumatalolo are, but that's a natural hire if GT wants to have some continuity. If he's not in the mix than odds are heavily in favor of a non-triple option HC.

The first rumor I saw was Ken Wisenhunt.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

With the way schools seem to be conducting coaching searches these days, sure, why not?

Wouldn't worry about Coach Ken. He's comfortable as hell at Navy, and he's not married to the triple option offense anyway. Just doesn't have much choice with the caliber of athlete he can go get at the Academy.

This is good news we KNEEded to hear today!

Best of luck in retirement. Was really hoping he'd stay until Fuente beat him and then retire.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Do we really want to wait for that?

Haha, maybe not as a fan. But if I was Fuente, as a competitor, I'd want to beat him so I could be at peace.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I see what you mean, but he'll be at peace beating the next guy.

Perhaps, but I was looking at it more from a standpoint of him being 0-3 against Paul Johnson's triple option and wanting to get the better of him. Even if the next coach there continues the triple option, it's not a Paul Johnson triple option. Who knows what he thinks. Maybe he is perfectly at peace not having to deal with that headache every year.

EDIT: Thought about it more. Personally, if I was Fuente, I'd still want to load up and kick his ass just once before retirement. It'll never happen though (sad emojii).

I mean, what a waste of time prepping every year for that.

I hope he retired because it was time to hang them up...not for health concerns.

From an email from GT Athletics

Paul Johnson, a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year and Georgia Tech's winningest football coach in more than five decades, has elected to step down as the Yellow Jackets' head coach, he announced on Wednesday.

"After 40 years of coaching, it's time to take a break," Johnson said. "My family has sacrificed a lot over the years. I want to watch my daughter [Kaitlyn, a professional opera singer] perform and do some things with my wife [Susan] that we've never had a chance to do. It's been a great run for the last 11 years here on The Flats. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and am looking forward to having the chance to coach this team one last time at our bowl game next month."

"What are you going to do, stab me? - Quote from Man Stabbed

Soo... Rich Rod? He can run that offense

Sadly, he could be an option for them. But Georgia Tech is the closest I want Rich Rod to be to any Tech.

The Chin is gone! Long live the Chin!

As far as the next HC, Please don't be a flexbone coach!.....Please don't be a flexbone coach!....Please don't be a flexbone coach!

I don't think you understand what this gif means. Unless you do then go for it. Chinballs is an... odd crush though.

Maybe it's the idea of life without Chinballs that makes his knees weak.

a little sad that he goes out on a 3-game winning streak against the Hokies, but sooo happy we won't have to play his chop blocking style again

Would you be sad to see Dabo hang it up this offseason? They are on a 3 game win streak against us

would be sad if sabin went out on a 3 game.... oh wait.....

What was our overall record against him?? N/m, just figured it out. We finished 6-5 overall against his teams. So while it was above .500, (with the exception of maybe this year) we had ABSOLUTELY ZERO business losing that many to him. Especially with one of the GREATEST DCs the game has ever known. Disgraceful. End rant. Now let's make that program our personal bitch & go back to increase our overall lead in the series.

I mean, its almost a completely different sport having to defend modern offenses and then one week a flexbone style option. Its like taking Wayne Gretzky out of hockey and throwing him into a field hockey game. Pretty similar in a lot of ways, but different enough that even Wayne would struggle for a bit. Do that with decent college players instead of The Great One and it makes sense why we would annually struggle. GT finished 1st or 2nd in the Coastal most of the years PJ was their coach. So most ACC teams struggled against the flexbone. Its not unique to us.

Would you like Prys with that?

I primarily fault the offense (or lack thereof) for the losses. That said, 2-3 yrs of playing against the triple option should be more than enough for a program of our caliber to arrange the personnel, successfully scheme & (mostly) neutralize it. Period.

that was pretty much the biggest FU PJ could say to coaching anywhere again, you left your team with a hundred ???????? about whats next. who ever takes that party over is in for a Shhhh show for the next at least 4 years

Question: with GT being in a rich recruiting territory with a great history, is there a chance that without being a weird option team, they could start being extremely competitive with a new coach? I know that GT's athletic department hasn't been aggressive in trying to be competitive nationally, but I worry that they could go from being a headache to being a challenger.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

I worry that they could go from being a headache to being a challenger.

He was their winningest coach. I'm not too worried plus it's gonna take a minute as they have players who are suited to and have played in a triple option offense. It will take a minute for them to rebuild. Have they even hired a new coach yet?

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

This is my concern. Geoff Collins will be a great recruiter. He's working hard to embrace the city, and is pitching Atlanta as the college football mecca. From a recruiting standpoint, the city is split by a bunch of schools (mostly Clemson and UGA). It won't be easy for him, (especially at first) if he can get the ball rolling, watch out.

He wanted to go out undefeated against Fuente, *sigh*

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

He could have done that two years ago.

This news is the BEES KNEES!!!!

There are wolves and there are sheep, I am the sheep dog

I literally just looked up at my calendar to make sure this wasn't some horrible April Fools joke. So exciting!

Watching this bowl game and seeing them lose is making me a little melancholy somehow. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic he's retiring. Just seems like the end of an era and he should kick the shit out of a non conference team as he goes.

And as much as I hated it, and am happy for our players knees, it was some pretty exciting football on occasion.

GT lost and lost ugly to Minnesota.
It was so easy to hate on him when he was on the sideline coaching against us. Nonetheless, I would have wanted GT to win that game as part of making the AC look better. Once more Paul Johnson, you gave us another reason to hate on you.
