What happened in Vegas is thankfully not staying in Vegas. The NHL announced Seattle will get a team in 2021. I'm interested to see how this expansion goes and the rules for the draft.
Should be great to have 32 teams in the league and Seattle deserves more sports teams.
Also as part of the expansion, the coyotes will move to the central division.

Vegas is exempt from this expansion, however they also do not receive a cut of the profits from Seattle entering the league.
As a Rangers fan...I'm not the happiest that they're coming in 2021 because of the makeup of the current lineup. Definitely going to be another team set up for success straight out of the gate a la Vegas, since they'll have the same set of protection rules.
I think the level of success straight out of the gate though is largely going to depend on how many GMs decide to make trades with Seattle prior to the expansion draft a la Las Vegas. Keep in mind that some of the best players on the Vegas roster were gifted to them by teams who didn't properly evaluate their players. The people in charge are likely still as bad as ever at talent evaluation, but I think GMs will be more apprehensive in dealing with the future Seattle GM considering how silly Las Vegas made a lot of people look last year.
Yeah for sure. I mean there's a lot of factors and trades/signings/injuries/retirements between now and then, but if Seattle puts the right coach in place, as well as does their homework, they can be set up to have success in a quicker fashion a la Vegas rather than the Minnesota/Columbus types of expansions. Also similarly to Vegas, they don't have anyone else coming in at the same time which helps them really pick and choose who they want.

Though I'm a lifelong Rangers fan, I'm hoping to see a game in Edmonton when Calgary goes up there this season. While attending the Stampede back in July (which was in fact my first ever rodeo), the locals said the better game environment is there, rather than Calgary.

I first read this as "Settle getting an NHL team" and was like " that's great for Tim Settle to choose a team to root for.
I read it the same way and thought "Either he's making better pay than I thought, or the cost of NHL teams has depressed mightily while I wasn't paying attention."

Great, now the Penguins have to worry about losing another Stanley Cup winning goalie.
But actually, Im really excited about this. I hope the NHL becomes more mainstream and it becomes easier for me to watch games. Another team in a wealthy area won't be an awful thing for the league
