Embarrassing that we let a bunch of students kick him out of school. Glad he made it to the NFL in spite of letting 20 year olds power trip and almost ruin another 20 year old's life.

Its embarrassing that students are allowed to expel anyone, really. Student Honor Courts should only have the authority to make suggestions to a professional who makes the final decision. Expelling someone is a significant financial event, especially to someone on scholarship, and those decisions should not be allowed to be made by a bunch of immature kids who have nothing to lose by getting it wrong.

I couldn't agree more. You know what demographic is full of pseudo-adult, immature people with a skewed view of reality and knack for making terrible decisions? College kids.

Devils advocate: If you commit a crime, you will be tried by a jury of your peers who have no professional ties to the law.

Sure, the jury can find you guilty or innocent, but the actual punishment comes from a judge. The jury can find you guilty and even then the judge can go extremely lenient on you if he or she deems it necessary. If that judge routinely gets it wrong, that judge can and would be disbarred. And even then, the party on trial has the opportunity to appeal to a higher court if they deem it necessary.

These Honor Courts, first of all, aren't even part of the legal system, yet they're allowed to make life altering decisions. There is no appeal process, and their decision is final.

It works at the US Military academies just fine. I'd rather have their model than say, Louisville's... Having sat on the honor court at VT, I can assure you that no "student got CJ Reavis kicked out of school" It's a much more comprehensive and objective "process" than that.

A process that included not allowing the evidence that cleared his name in the eyes of the actual law from being used in his defense.

Also, how do you not see the enormous disconnect between the general student body of a military academy and a large state university?

Being a student at VT is not the same as a general citizen... law enforcement clearance is irrelevant. VT has its own conduct rules.

Very true, but I'm afraid I'm going to need you to show me where consensual sex is prohibited by VT's rules.

If you play it, they will win.

It was prohibited during study hours in cadet dorms as late as 1993, I now that. Regardless, obviously CJ Reavis didn't get kicked out of VT for simply having consensual sex then, did he? Can you imagine the law suit?

Well actually...

If the prevailing narrative is true, that's exactly what happened. The problem is that they did not let Reavis present evidence, text exchanges with the accuser, that proved consent.

*My comments are presented given, hypothetically, that the prevailing narrative that has been circulating for a while now is true. Which is that Reavis had sex with a female, she claimed it was less than consensual, and he was then kicked out without being able to provide evidence that exonerated him. But, obviously, we don't know the whole truth.

If you play it, they will win.

Yeah, it was prohibited, but it wasn't really "prohibited", wasn't it? ;^)

And...study hours? We had those?

My limited understanding was that his innocence in the matter of false accusations clouds the perception but that he was clearly in violation of some other personal conduct that couldn't be denied. Truth is, none of know the whole story unless we were there.

honor court isn't the same as the student conduct committee

Adonis really put on some weight...and Settle looks mad thin.

Wish Reavis was a Redskin too

Adonis' arms don't look like the both belong to the same person, it's very confusing.

I'm so happy that Reavis has succeeded despite the adversity thrown his way. I'll always be rooting for him to do well! He's still a Hokie in my book!

Me too. Great kid that put himself in a bad situation and then got too harshly penalized for it. Happy to see him succeeding and only wish it could be in Orange & Maroon. He still loves VT with all his heart and it hurts me that he never got to realize his dream.

this is the first picture of Big Timmy I've seen where he doesn't look like an overgrown kid.

Man it's been years and I still have no idea why Reavis was kicked out. Seriously, if we're upset about the lack of transparency from the student conduct committee then why is always vague references to how he was done wrong?

So what was the accusation?

I don't exactly remember but I think he hooked up with Melvin Keihn's GF and Melvin found out..... instead of owning her mistake she alleged sexual assault. Team knew it was BS, they blackballed Keihn and he transferred. Reavis was kicked out by students on a power trip....... something like that.

HokieObsession

Hmmm all these years I thought that the player that hooked up with kiehns gf was some one else. I don't know who but I never pr 2 and 2 together.

Anyways glad to see him doing well.

Pretty sure the rumor on here was that a certain rb got with the same girl after all that went down and ended up transferring due to the team response.

Danny is always open

That sounds more familiar.

RB was Travon McMillian

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

if I was drew harris i would have never cheated on that girl!

He hooked up with a girl who claimed it was not consensual, although there were text messages from before and after the incident that suggested otherwise.

Always a Hokie. Always #Dblock

Don't think I have ever seen settle without a helmet on, did not realize he had long hair

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Why did they all switch jerseys?

2 time Longwood grad married to a Hokie.

Settle and Adonis drew the short straw during the jersey swap.

it's a tradition that may have started in soccer, competitors would switch jerseys at the end of the game as a sign of respect and almost start their own little collection, I've seen it happening more and more in the NFL.

Settle's jersey is more of a bed sheet. Seriously, you could probably fit that across your mattress and sleep on it while dreaming of pancakes.

Yeah, but why did Settle and Alexander swap?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

to make the picture look better maybe?

That was my question!

Damn that joke flew over everyone's head
