Dana Holgorsen is finalizing a deal to become the new head coach of the Houston Cougars. His move from P5 to G5 will leave WVU in search of a new head coach.

AHAHAHAHAHAH imagine getting poached by a G5 school, wow.
For those baffled by the move, there is no love lost between Holgerson and WVU's President and AD. They would have found a reason to let Holgerson go within a season or two. This is honestly the best decision for all involved parties. Also, I think when the details are released, I wouldn't be surprised to see Holgerson make more money at Houston. (Not guaranteeing it, just won't be surprised if he does.) Houston has deep pockets and is throwing money at the football program in a bid to become P5.
Any idea what was behind the tension between DH and WVU?
Probably the same reason Rich Rod left. He was probably demanding better facilities and the AD probably was sick of hearing it.
The year before Rich Rod left, he came and watched a spring practice of ours so he could look at our facilities and try to do the same there.
The AD even lowered his buyout to 1 Million. They must have been glad to see him go.
Weird to hear about someone coming to VT to look at superior facilities
It was right after we won the ACC for the first time and finished the stadium construction. So I think around 2006.
In RichRod's list of demands he also demanded that the athletic department allow students to sell their books back, which is an NCAA infraction.
By contract his buyout decreased to 1 million on 1/1/19. The AD didn't reduce it.
There are stories from when he got hired and needed to be escorted out of a casino within the first month or so...I believe. As I understand, things haven't changed since that time.
Gotta remember that he was hired from another staff to come to WVU and be Bill Stewart's head-coach-in-waiting. So strange to begin with. Then before he is the actual coach, he did get kicked out of a casino.
Don't forget that this news was passed to newspapers by Bill Stewart, the actual WVU head coach at the time, in an effort to bring heat on Holgorsen and disrupt the whole HCIW thing.
Gotta love the support from the inside!

And some on here wonder why I never want to see them on the opposite sideline as the Hokies. Ever. They are ECU, just in a bigger conference. Dysfunctional all the way.
He's even got Dana's hair!
I know a good number of WVU fans that want him gone. There are a number of reasons but mostly they don't think he has enough respect for the program, his assistant coaches and players.
Supposedly a 5 year deal worth $20m
WVU had no intentions of matching
Matching that?!?!? They were trying to cut his pay on his extension.
Too bad for WVU that RichRod already took the OC job at Ole Miss...
He could always take a page out of the Manny Diaz playbook
HA!!! What do you think RichRod's buyout at Ole Miss is? $1000?
Maybe Corn will get a call?
They'll probably call Shane first.
Hey Dana! They have quite a few Great Clips in Houston!
I don't blame him
A lot money in houston.
I know there's more to the story, but if you think I'm going to make fun of WVU for losing their coach to a G5 school, you're absolutely right.
This is an example of TKP making me literally laugh out loud. And then reading it again, and LOLing again.
At least Holgorsen stays in the P6.
Don't know who they'll take on as their new HC but hopefully, they make Brian Mitchell new DC. He coached at WVU before joining our staff and was previously a DC at ECU.
It's looking like they're going to hire Neal Brown from Troy. I thought Luke Fickell was a better option, but they had their sights set on Brown from the start. Before coaching Troy, he was the Texas Tech OC/QB coach for 2 years and held the same position at Kentucky for a year, so he has P5 and Big 12 experience but hasn't recruited any of WVU's pipeline areas at a P5 level.
Some WVU fan (it may have even been a troll account) tweeted a couple days ago that Bronco Mendenhall was taking the job. He was literally getting threats from UVA fans. A fan base notorious for giving out threats to opposing fans and their own players and coaches getting threats from a fan base notorious for drinking Zima and eating cheese at tailgates was quite the scene.
Surprised it wasn't Shane.
