ESPN will use its "MNF" crew to call Monday's Alabama-Clemson CFP Championship game as part of planned MegaCast coverage around the event. The "MNF Film Room" will replace the "Coaches Film Room" on ESPNews for the game, with Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten and Booger McFarland teaming up with Todd McShay to provide an X's and O's-style telecast from the game site in Santa Clara. ESPN says other parts of the MegaCast lineup will be released later today.
What a great idea......said no one ever.

Todd McShay? I thought he was only employed for NFL Draft coverage.
and with the number of future NFL players on the field, it kinda makes sense to have him around
I don't mind McShay being around. It's the other 3 bozos that really disappoint me.
Well this is essentially two pro teams so...
I liked it better when it's a room full of coaches still looking for work.
I actually liked Paul Johnson the retired coach throwing shad.
ESPN hasn't had enough criticism over Jason Witten already? Now they want to get the college crowd against him as well?
Booooooooo!!!
Why would we want to hear the fantastic insights of actual college coaches watching plays in real-time when we can listen to Jason Witten not saying anything and only occassionally blurting out the most painfully obvious cliches? /s
I swear you can here Tessitore elbowing him at times to stop just watching the game and say something, only to be disappointed when Witten actually speaks. I feel bad for Booger because you can tell that he is trying his hardest to fill the dead air left by Witten to his own detriment. ESPN thought they would strike gold with Witten like CBS did with Romo but ended up with a dud.
I can only guess this is happening because either they couldn't get any good coaches or they didn't want to pay them, most likely a combination of both.
Booger is by far the worst part of that broadcasting booth. He just doesn't shut the hell up. Most of the time he's wrong about what he is saying on top of that.
not sure if /s
I absolutely hate Booger's commentary. He just talks to talk and instead of letting the game breath a bit we just hear non stop talk from him about absolutely nothing releavant.
His sideline cart is just weird.
Yeah but when Witten botches those cliches it meme gold. He had about a half dozen this season. Still not worth watching for that, just catch it later on one of the late night shows.
As an example, he said "pulled a rabbit out of his head" when trying to indicate some magic happened when Aaron Rodgers made a play
Poor guy just has a habit of "kicking himself in the foot."
This blows. The coaches room was always fun to watch. College coaches that understand the college game breaking it down. I can just see this crew comparing everything to the NFL now.
This is about as obnoxious as when the Bama-LSU title game was deemed the greatest game ever, and they showed highlights of the game afterward to the NFL Primetime music. If Bama and Clemson want to dump more money and resources than any other school into football annually, just have them play each other for their own national title and let the rest of the country compete. The NFL is absolutely garbage and ruining the college game. Won't be much longer before I'm just indifferent and apathetic.
I'd actually argue that you're starting to see more or a college influence on the NFL with the Mahomes and Jacksons. I think the league will look mighty different in 5-7 years.
outside of $$$ and the return of the Mack to UNCheat, wtf is E$PN thinking of by replacing the coaches film room?
I always enjoyed the coaches commentary during those broadcasts. They broke down plays and showed why things did/didn't work.
Booooo E$PN
Taking out the Coaches Find Room and replacing it with the MNF crew makes me want to watch the National Championship. /SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I wonder if this means Chris and Kirk would call the Superbowl if the game was on ABC...
If they want to have a real coaches room...why not mix and match college and NFL...Get Bud Foster in there talking defense with someone like Romeo Crennel or Greg Williams...
For Offense, you could have someone like Kliff Kingsbury talking with Jon Gruden or something...i just think it would be something to keep things fresh...
I'd rather listen to Skip Bayless and Stephen a Smith, yell at each other during the game for one night only, then listen to Jason Witten say anything...
Now see you bring up an excellent idea.
Ramming the MNF announcing team down our throats is not a good idea.
Every time Bayless' name comes up, I think it's about the chef guy Bayless (Rick) that did Mexico, One Plate at a Time..
Rick is Skip's brother. I'm pretty sure they haven't spoken in years though.
Lucky Rick.
I hope they are all sitting a room like normal but Booger is sitting on his sideline cart 10 feet away
I really wonder how ESPN makes these decisions. They must have some user data that the rest of us aren't privy too. Maybe the see that people flip to the coaches room coverage, but don't stick around to watch it, or something like that.
Honestly the coach's film room was probably the only reason I would even turn this game on from the start. Just not that interested in seeing this matchup again, but coach's film room might make it more interesting. I'll probably just keep an eye on the score, if its still close going into the 4th, then I'll turn it on.
My understanding is there is a big coaches conference that is limiting their pool of coaches, combined with the fact that they ran through some of the limited number of coaches for the semi-finals they took this path, while I understand not being able to do the coaches room, replacing it with the MNF crew just seems boneheaded, they must be trying to salvage them and this is not the way to do it, I like the idea of some NFL coaches being brought in, especially those knocked out of the playoffs
Wwwhhhhyyyyy
WHOSE LEG DO I HAVE TO HUMP TO GET MORE TREVOR MATICH CALLING GAMES.
That guy rocks.
I'd advise against doing that to get what you want.
Literally the only feed I give a shit about is the skycam with no commentary. Best way to watch a football game, and I wish they did it with every game on TV.
I love watching games on the skycam. Best view of each play and how it develops.
And I can't overemphasize how much I love having the sounds of the game with no commentary over it.
I like the sounds of the game, but hate the skycam. I like the traditional view.
I already wasn't watching, but now I'm not watching twice as much.
that'll show em', Beard!
My favorite coach has been Matt Rhule, he just looks like a kid in a candy store when talking about football.
Cant we get some assistant coaches? Foster and Venables?
This all just means I won't watch the game. Sorry ESPN, you lost me.
This is a dumb idea for sure but I actually liked Tessitore on college football broadcasts. ESPN seems to be trying to find a new identity for MNF but it's not working. They took McDonough away from CFB and tried it, it didn't work now they are doing Tessitore. IMO, they are two of ESPN's best CFB play-by-play guys (Chris Fowler the other) and now one of them is being wasted on MNF. It's ESPN grasping at straws.
I dont hear him as much any more because I don't really watch the NFL like that, but I've always liked Chris Spielman's commentary for pro and college football.
Jason Witten's title game broadcast went wrong immediately
Did any one expect more out of this?
I'm curious if any of you guys watched it? I didn't flip over once.
Who cares? I like watching Herbie and Fowler. Legendary.
