Ken Oxendine has experience coaching at GA Southern. At least we're being proactive by throwing out suggestions. Whom do you think (besides Zohn) should take over RB coaching duties? Also, Lee Suggs.

I don't know or care who should be our RB coach because it doesn't matter what I think. I'm just poking fun at our fanbase's propensity for suggesting random former players coach our team when they have no or next to no credentials while simultaneously deriding our current coaching staff for not having enough P5 experience. I know those aren't always the same people but still.

Unless he has changed his mind from when I saw him at Chipotle in November, Sam specifically told me he is working very hard at getting back on an NFL team.
oxendine runs a camp circuit for the NFL out of Atlanta. I ran into him a couple years back when my son was a weee tyke he attended one of his camps. it was a nice little surprise to have a former VT running back whom I grew up watching out there coaching my son. I showed my son some of his highlights. made me remember how much of a beast Ox was.
Would coaching, say...DBs, be much different at G5 than at P5? Either you can teach good technique or you can't. The idea that you absolutely have to work up from the bottom is absurd. Hire people that are experts in their field (Like an NFL DB teaching kids how to be a good DB) and you'll usually get good results. It's just another form of the same "credentialism" that keeps people from doing jobs they're more than capable of, simply because they haven't "worked their way up". It's a way for established people in a field to protect themselves from talented up-and-comers. You can say recruiting is different, but recruiting well can't really be taught IMO. It's about personality.
I don't make a big deal out of the P5 vs. G5 coaching experience because I don't think it's as big a deal as it's made out to be by some, but I do think that some experience should be required to coach major college football. A lot of the names being thrown around haven't even been GAs before. This isn't about barring people from opportunities due to lack of credentials, it's about not hiring people with zero or near zero experience. There's a difference between the two. If a head coach hires a position coach who has never been a position coach at any level of football and it's an unmitigated disaster then suddenly it's the head coach's job that could be in jeopardy. Expect most if not all P5 head coaches to mitigate their risk by hiring known quantities.
Excuse my misuse of credentials in my previous post where I used it as a synonym for experience.
Playing and coaching require very different skill sets. There is significant overlap to be sure, but many great players would be awful coaches.

Seems like position coach in college is about as entry-level as you can get in professional coaching.
I'd be inclined to think that at least 50% of all players who spent 8-10 years in the NFL would be fully qualified to coach in college.
Entry level is GA or analyst.
Not in P5. I don't think people on this website understand what goes into collegiate coaching. It's not just teaching a kid when to turn his hips or how to block.
I listened to Brenden Hill's podcast post-FSU game last year with him, Royal, Flowers, and Hall. I was most impressed hearing how much of a strong desire all had in finding some way to help the team. They talked at length about having a greater presence at games and being around the program more in order to help the players out, which I really loved hearing.
I just hope the coaches and admin were listening so that it might actually happen.
Well considering how walled off the new regime has been and how there have been several stories of less than great football alumni/administration relations in recent years, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

ive heard some rumors about tre from some pretty credible sauces. lets hope that eddie royal connecting with him help put some of those to bed. I was disappointed to say the least when id heard what id heard, especially after the kind of second half to the season tre had.

I will say this though. hes not in any kind of trouble. on the field or off the field. Im not trying to be vague, and I damn sure don't want to bring any negativity towards tre, I just think its best to let him break the news if or when he chooses to do so.

There were some hints dropped on TKP mid-season that Turner was considering a transfer. I don't think that will happen, and there hasn't been much continued smoke about it, until your post. So either your info is old or he's still weighing his options. Note that he is not on the transfer portal or anything definitive like that.

That would be seriously concerning, he's in line for a huge role/stats... this wouldn't be like our other ones that saw the writing on the wall.
This is something that we have to be better at. It is important to have those guys around the program. It's something Miami does a great job with. Those alumni need to be visible. Helps with recruiting and coaching

New era of speculation after every season there is a promising player who has something that could be negative for the program without naming it. If you are right 1 out of 100 then you get a pat on the back. I think if you put speculation out there you should name it - otherwise delete it.
