Good. Now they can get fucked by both Bill and Mary.
They'll be a nice tuneup for W&M.
VT to ECU:
Thats laughable, I'm not even mad. Kind of sad they resorted to getting the Gov. involved, but that ship has long sailed on.
They are not being penalized for a storm. They are being "penalized" for stupidity, breach of contract, and poor manners.
Given the way the media down here acted when this all went down, I'm shocked Cooper didn't bring up 4/16 as reason why we must work with them from now on
I don't think i've read a single thing that seems impartial in nature, everything seems focused on 'ECU/VT is wrong and here's why'. It seem like the intention of each is to prove that one side is clearly wrong, but that side differs entirely based on who's camp that media outlet is in.
Why on earth did the governor of NC feel compelled to wrench himself into a squabble among state universities... about a football series?
Big donor is an ECU grad or playing to the lowest common denominator for votes. Money or votes, why else does a politician do anything?
Roy called it a "rivalry" lol
Politician grandstands to appease constituents who are sports fans, more at 11
Or in the case of this NC voter, to piss them off.
Whit needs to talk to the governor, and inform them that we are canceling the entire series, effective now.
No.
Northam should ask him if ECU is prepared to publicly admit they lied to VT
lol WTF? Why does Roy Cooper give a shit?
Politicians care when they get calls from constituents, or donors.
The only constituents politicians care about start with the same letter, da ca$h mahnee.
Gov. Cooper gave an interview on a local sports radio show about the alleged injustice. WARNING: it made me cringe almost the entire time.
I listened despite the warning and wish I hadn't.
Whit had a meeting with Roy the other day. Here's security footage.

Go Tribe!
why are we still talking about ECU!?!?
It's always fun to talk about bad exes.
When you decided to date someone below your league and then she goes psycho bitch and breaks up with you, it's OK to laugh when the best she can do is the weird kid who likes LARP.
I LOL'd
Legg'd
I guess Alabama and the other P5 teams that are so eager to play at ECU were all washing their hair that day?
From reddit, this year is just W&M because it was short notice. They'll get someone better next year.

They probably will find someone they have a better chance of beating than W&M. But I doubt that's what they meant.
sounds about right

WHAT ON FRANK BEAMER'S GREEN EARTH IS THIS?
Looks like a pirate mated with a mountaineer and raised the spawn on glam rock and WWE.
was about to say he looks like Shawn Michaels with literal actual guns
I scrolled past it thinking it was WWE. Was surprised to find otherwise on second glance.
if it wasn't tarnished by being ECU-related, this would be amazing
Looks like a character that didn't quite make the final cut for the Village People.
Guess he made it to landfall.

Oh my god the guy on the cell phone makes this hilarious.
So I guess the guys in the boat are William and Mary saving ECU's schedule?
Since i don't see any mentions of ECU's broke ass athletic department having to pay W&M for their visit, i hope it turn out to be a home and home against an FCS school and that ECUs folks buried that lead to save face.
Also can we just have a good laugh at how this will be a faceoff of Mike Houston who recently left JMU for ECU vs TimeCop Mike London who is back in the FCS ranks for W&M.
EDIT: Sorry. Comment was intended as a response to a comment further up the thread^^^
Excuse the naive question, but is this the time for fan advocacy? I imagine Whit is going to be facing pressure to reconcile with ECU (Cooper and Northam might be friends for all I know). Should we use this opportunity to be vocal and finally end this hideous series?
I can't imagine this is anything that Northam is remotely concerned about. This is the equivalent of having your mom talk to the mom of the kid down the street because the kid doesn't want to play with you anymore.
I hope you are right. But deep down I worry that this thing will be reconciled and that fans might be missing a golden opportunity to express our support for ending it.
Whit is very aware that fans were extremely tired of this series. But what possible reason would Northam get involved with this? With everything going on in Richmond these days, why would he even entertain spending political capital on getting this series revived? There is no political advantage to him doing so.
While this is true, it is also true that one should never underestimate the stupidity of politicians (regardless of party or affiliation). I guess some of the lingering questions are does he have any connections to ECU or any major important persons that are connected to ECU?? The planet has certainly gotten smaller & folks have become better connected.
This is the classic tempest in a teapot. Yes, it is a tempest, but it is in a teapot. Only important to two schools and one of us is so over the other that there is no leverage that they can apply to the obvious incipient breakup. We should just extend the cold shoulder and they should just get over it. It may take a while for all concerned to finally realize it, but the fact is, it's over.
Solid win for Mike London.
NC Governor Cooper: ECU will sue VT if games won't be rescheduled
I hope we counter sue their asses into the dirt if they try.
ECU sue us? Ok.....let them try
Oh, please bring it. These people are less than nothing, and we'll take all the less than nothing they don't have.
Does East Carolina live in it's own reality? We should have sued them, not the other way around.
On principle alone, I agree we should have sued them.
However, a judgement against them would be worthless because ECU is worthless. Their athletic department lives from paycheck to paycheck at best.
Obviously I don't know the particulars of the agreement regarding games, but while it seems likely we could sue them for the "liquidated damages" (see: penalty) of $500k for their unilateral cancellation of the game this year, I don't know how that affects the series as a whole.
I wouldn't be so sure they couldn't sue us to play the remainder of the games. Again, I don't know anything about the agreement so don't take this as legal advice. A lot of different legal principles could come into play (which I won't begin to go into) regarding the remainder of the games, which also means it could be very expensive and time consuming to litigate.
Edited for grammar
Supposedly there was no financial penalty baked into the original contract for canceling. If ECU is trying to sue us, it'll be for terms that quite literally didn't exist.
Its probably why they're crying to the governor rather than getting their lawyers involved.
I don't think this this is a good look for ECU. They come out looking like spoiled brats that did something wrong and completely pissed off the other kids and then are trying to get the kids who gave them multiple chances and finally called them out on their BS in trouble...
Like the girl who gave one of her classmates a bloody nose because he kept popping her bra in class. She kept telling him to stop and he didn't. She tried talking to the teacher to no avail and then finally dealt with and solved the problem. ECU is the brat who was popping the bra and VT is the girl who socked him. Cooper is the principal who is trying to punish the girl and ends up getting schooled. They did something wrong, we reacted and they are trying to make us look like the bad guy.
We've covered this as a collective a bunch but I will summarize:
1) This isn't a rivalry
2) Legally, it wasn't in ECU's right to cancel the game. It was home team's authority (ie, VT) in the contract if i'm not mistaken
3) Their justification for cancelling was not backed-up by their actual actions
The hurricane has little to do with this. The only thing it did is make ECU make some terrible decisions.
- They went behind VT's back and were planning on heading down to Florida while still communicating with VT about the game. Then announced the cancellation when it was VT's job to announce any cancellation to their home game. ECU did an extremely poor job communicating and hid a bunch of shit. Good on Whit.
FTFY
They also scheduled the make up game with a different team, knowing we could be available, without informing us. We found out about it when they announced it.
And still pocketed the game fee from the game they canceled, and took another fee from NCSU to play in Raleigh.
They double dipped, and when Whit made a suggestion that we might, you know, like to have our money back from something they agreed to do and literally no-showed, the beat writers all over NC started whining about how horrible we were after everything they did for us in 2007.
They played us like fools, we cut off all ties with them, and like any dumbass bully, they are now whining to mom and dad when nobody wants to play with them anymore.
Has this been confirmed? I know there was the whole saga over on the Pirates board about this situation and I heard rumors they did double dip. But I really want it confirmed so I can add another arrow to my hate ECU quiver
The beat writers don't have a leg to stand on as far as 2007 stuff. They participated in pre-game memorial activities and donated $100,000 to the memorial fund. A lot of other schools did stuff for us as well, but that doesn't mean we owe them anything 12 years later.
ESPN Article describing the 2007 game's activities
None of the local news sources down here mention any of the shady stuff ECU supposedly did behind the scenes. Don't know if it's deliberate or lazy reporting. I'm inclined to think Cooper doesn't know all the details otherwise he wouldn't have been throwing around threats of legal action because he'd understand ECU doesn't have a peg-leg to stand on.
Media don't care about details. The sad fact is that the media can be used to run individuals or programs through the mud. Nothing in that article can be construed as slander or libel so no apology will be required and ultimately nothing may come of this except for every NC person who reads this to think poorly of VT.
Sadly true and there really is no recourse.
Good. VT never should have played ECU a million times anyway. Total lose/lose situation for VT, and don't give me any recruiting nonsense. That game actually hurts recruiting for VT.
