So yes each school is getting almost 50 million NOT including bowl payouts. O and the SEC has the lowest paid P5 commissioner.

Most talent rich conference in the part of the country that cares the most about college football. Huge stadiums, fans/alumni who donate big money, and a great TV contract with CBS. Everything about that makes total sense.
The ACC is a basketball conference with a few good football years. It would take a monumental paradigm shift for us to generate the kind of revenue as the SEC. It just doesn't seem realistic that our basketball schools with small stadiums are suddenly going to start pumping money into their schools at an SEC level.
I will accept a paltry $35million.

While that plays a large role. The BIG Ten plays in some of the largest stadiums each week. To me the biggest historical difference has been people who look to the future and people who don't (ACC) and people who can negotiate. For example the PAC and BIG Ten each get 40 Million a year when the Rose bowl isn't in the playoffs. The Big 12 and SEC get 40 million a year when Sugar bowl isn't in playoffs. Meanwhile the ACC 27.5 million from Orange. PAC, BIG and SEC all had TV networks long before ACC even tried as long as NC based Swofford is in charge the ACC will keep far behind.
I don't think the ACC is setup to pass the SEC but it should be close. The ACC is the premier basketball conference and on pace with PAC as best "other sports" conference.
You know I agree with you about Swofford's incompetence. I also agree that his inability to leverage the ACC's status as the premier basketball conference into more money is a pretty impressive feat.

Not to absolve Swafford of blame, but when these negotiations were going on (2009-2012 if I recall correctly), the ACC was not really in a strong position to negotiate. We were the second weakest football conference (ahead of the now defunct big east), and arguably the most boring to watch. I think Swafford is plenty to blame, but it's not like member institution made it easy for him.

I've thought it, and not just because of what is being said, but the grating manner in which those things are said. Too similar to ignore.
I do believe that I have seen the two argue with each other in the past. Not saying that it disproves the theory, just saying that it is a data point.
In all seriousness, despite the similarities, there are distinct differences in the way that they post that should be perceptible to most.

I think that depends on how many providers ESPN can get the channel on. ESPN and Verizon already had their spat and Verizon caved. I'm sure we will hear about more "negotiations" over the next few months. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear a real number for a year or more.
like to hear more info about how Verizon caved... because the ACC had leverage across the Verizon FIOS deployment territory? Norfolk, Richmond I'll grant you, not sure Verizon didn't get some concessions to place it across their network.

This is the reasonable answer. 4 years of Vick and Curry coming here means 2018 ODU definitely never happens. Vick for that long would've had us on the map permanently.

4. is on the table for me if it's Boise instead of JMU, no way we lose to JMU if we beat Boise, plus title hopes were shot after week one before we lost to JMU.
2. Is something I wrestle with a lot, but the way that gritty 2008 team rallied into ultimately winning the Orange Bowl is a tough experience to just eliminate for the possibility of 2011. I go back and forth on this one.
7. should have happened, Mike Slive wanted it to happen for the Mid-Atlantic market, but it just never materialized into reality.

The beer part would just mean I would have spent too much money so that is worthless to me. The Dabo part, eh, I'd rather pick something good for us as opposed to bad for another team. The VIck ones are obviously going to be very impactful. Tyrod being here for 2011 would have been amazing. What an offense that would have been. VT being in the SEC just simply means we get better recruits and more money. But ultimately, Steph Curry at VT could have been magical.
Does Curry coming to Tech mean he still becomes what he becomea or based on his value that year as a recruit?
I read it as Curry becomes the Curry we know, but if you want to assume it means we sign a 3 star recruit and bitch at Greenberg for wasting a scholarship then you do you man.

2. If Tyrod is our QB in 2011, we don't lose to Clemson, which means we play Wake in the ACCCG, which means we're undefeated playing an undefeated (and secretly garbage) LSU team for the national championship.
7. Not leaving when the SEC came calling was an enormous mistake. We'd be able to compete for any recruit in the mid-Atlantic area as we'd be the only local team able to sell playing on the biggest stage in CFB. EDIT: OH AND ALL THE MONEY.

Yeah that 2011 LSU team was incredible and they obliterated everyone but Alabama. A glance at their schedule that year is eye opening.

I really don't want 7. I assume we'd be in the east instead of Mizzou. Getting crushed by Johnny Manziel isnt my idea of fun. While people think our recruiting would be better I don't see it. We screwed up some relationships with high school coaches, those recruits are still going to Bama, or FSU, or PSU. Every single VA player that goes to FSU could go to multiple SEC schools.

3 - We likely beat Miami on the road and go the the BCS championship back to back years. I would like to think that this time we win it by taking out Oklahoma.
5 - Who knows what happens with those teams and the program, but it would have been fun to watch.
I'm not sure on the Miami one, I think they were the 2nd best team that year. They man handled us, and the refs were calling Offensive pass int on the other side of the field from the catch. But it would have been a different game. ( I drove to that game!) Also 2001 was a great chance to beat them if any one else was QB.
