Anticipate a review on Burmiester's film (a freshman year cameo replacing Justin Herbert.)
Worse case, he's a third stringer with a high ceiling.
I think this signals that Willis is the starter next year with QP as a backup and some wildcat Hooker. Unless the coaching staff straight up lied to Burmiester, no way he transfers here if QP is ready to play in 2019.
QP, Knox, Hooker (if he doesn't leave) and Burmiester in a battle for 2020 season.

This is accurate. QP not ready yet (we have said this on the site before, but this isn't a bad thing and is clearly expected). QP hype was based on potential, NOT game readiness out of HS.
This kid has wheels. His passing abilities are not top notch (yet), but Fuente continues to bring in competition for the QB position regardless of the situation. I like this move as it creates competition and depth with a kid who has game experience and it spaces out scholarships at QB.
Looks like one of his earlier starts, lot of Zone reads, not much passing downfield. But overall very good in the run game, made some good reads and Athletic movements.
True freshman, first start against the number 12 team when your team is 5-4. I don't think he looked bad. Put the ball in harms way a time or two. But made some good, quick decisions as well.
Feel like we just went through a QB putting the ball in harms way a few times this past year. Still ended up not being too bad overall.
Well, we did beat loluva and extended our bowl streak, but first losing season in decades takes the shine off of those accomplishments. I'd probably not characterize it as "not being too bad overall."

I'm not, and I'm hoping he balls out this spring and moving forward. I just miss watching a commit come in and play for a while, and I'm really hoping that's qp. Obviously josh did, but between brewer, jerod, and Willis I miss watching the natural progression of our own guys
My fear is the Fu and Corny will go with the comfortable choice rather than looking at what is best for positioning the team in the future.
I don't see a "comfortable" choice amongst them, actually. Positioning the team for the future exactly how? I can't see our coaches going with potential over production, really. Those guys get paid way too much to just roll the dice.
I think the comfortable choice would be:
- Willis, because of playing time last year
- Burmeister, because of playing time at another Power 5 school
- Hooker because of 'being in the system longer'
The potential vs. production is like a continuous circle - one really doesn't know the production based on potential unless said player has a chance to play.
Going with Paxton Lynch at Memphis was definitely not the comfortable choice. Granted they had some leniency on decisions with how bad Memphis was previously.

Sevenlayers somehow thinks that making a bad QB more average is somehow magical and "capable of miracles". While I don't think making a good improvement is a bad thing, I don't think that's somehow magical. Lastly, it wasn't even Fuente's doing. It was Cornys since he's not only the OC, but the actual QB coach.

That was my point for a lot of these too but shhh don't break the superiority circle jerk.
And not only for #2, but for #3 and #4. And by their logic Beamer was a great RB coach because he had Ryan Williams and Kevin Jones.
Clearly logic isn't for everyone.
But Beamer didn't coach RBs ever.
He did coach special teams and certainly got credit for that.
Fuente and Cornelsen, both of whom are on our staff, have coached the QBs mentioned. I'm not a practice so I don't know how involved Fuente is with the QBs but I would imagine he is still pretty involved.

I think my point was missed. Beamer was a fantastic RB coach, because he allowed Billy Hite to do his job. And if Beamer had left for UNC and talent Hite with him then Beamer would have great running backs at UNC because Beamer knows the secret to coaching RBs (let Billy do the work.)
My point was it didn't matter if Fuente or Cornelsen coached lynch because we have both. So VT gets to count Lynch as a success for Fuente becuase our staff has the same people.

You agree that by simply being the head coach, that they thereby DO coach a positional player now? How else can you give credit to Fuente for Ryan Williams and Jerod Evans? Same for Paxton - he certainly didn't do that directly.
So, going back to my original point. This is why I said his sample size is only one - Andy Dalton.

I think that people believe that Fuente is still involved with coaching quarterbacks. I also believe that. Just like Beamer directly coached special teams, I think Fuente directly coaches the QBs as does Cornelsen.

If you assume most QB's start for 2 years before moving on, then it would take 20 years to get 10 data points. Most coaches don't remain position coaches for that long.
Even ten years is a long time for a position coach (which would get you 5 data points), especially a good QB coach.

You have clearly said Fuente should not get credit for qb accomplishments performed while he is head coach, not qb coach. So how the hell are we going to "see how it goes". I honestly dont know what you are arguing at this point.

As a freshmen Willis had a 101 QB rating behind a horrible offensive line and no running game. With 9 TDS to 10 INTs.
As a freshman BB had an 86 rating 2 tds to 6 ints. On a team with a really good running game.
However Burmiester has plenty of athleticism and most QBs would probably suck if thrown on the field as a true freshman.
No way he looks worse than did Willis coming from KS.
The more I've been thinking, the more I actually like this...I think you can throw out pretty much everything Burmeister did at Oregon.
He played seven games in 2017 as a true freshman with Willie Taggert as his head coach, I think Trevor Lawerence is the only QB in America who could have had success in that situation. He was playing behind Herbert so he had zero expectation to play coming into that season. He only played in what looks like mop up duty in 2018 and was granted a redshirt year.
He has a really high ceiling. After stalking the Oregon boards, it sounds like Braxton is a good kid that just had a rough two years and needs a change of scenery. Give him 2019 to run the scout team and regain his confidence. It's possible he beats out QP & Knox in 2020. If not, he's athletic enough to play a skill position.

they thought enough of him to redshirt him last year in anticipation Herbert would turn pro. when that didn't happen, Burmeister transferred
athletically, he is more than capable enough to succeed. it will be good for VT if he does.

Whoa, lets not get carried away here, you think that Trevor Lawerence could succeed under Willie Taggert's lethally simple offense? I mean Trevor is good, but lets not promote him to God.

I don't post a lot but this really got my attention. I really like this pick up for these reasons:
1. He is a true dual threat QB (will put a lot of pressure on the defense)
2. He has experience running a hurry up offense (we may get the full FU offense)
3. He is an above average passer (can improve under the right coach)
4. He comes to us with experience in an offense similar to FU's.
If he does not work out at QB like someone said above he is athletic enough to play a different position. I feel he has a good chance to stick at QB and has the potential to start for us. I don't think FU goes for QB's for depth in the QB room. I think he believes they can compete in his offense and competition brings out the best in his players. That's just the thoughts of an arm chair QB....LOL!
I didn't expect much from a walkon transfer from Kansas a couple years ago and have been very pleasantly surprised by his play. You never know what kind of opportunities could open up with an injury or transfer down the line but having a guy in the qb room with some experience being a D1 ball player is nothing but a positive in my book.

Willis was terrible at Kansas too. But once he sat a year and got Fu knowledge, he was pretty damn good last year all things considered.
I think Burmeister would greatly benefit from sitting this year so Fuente can coach him up.
Slight concern since the nolie QB room is a mess and Willie did not go after him but I guess we will take all the camp arms we can get.
This could have been due to them not having a good relationship after taggart recruited him and then jumped ship.
That, and not wanting to live where it's so hot and humid that your balls are never not dripping with sweat.
