This is what we should drop 600 comments on. Specifically designing our own graphics of what should be on the Otter Sandman shirt. If we should rename our swim team to the otters. Or just posting pics of the adorable little bastard.

That may be true, but Stroubles is tiny tributary. How does it support an otter population, I wonder.
I mean it also runs into the New I know there are quite a few otters on the New. I don't know much about otter behavior but I can't imagine that them traveling Stroubles to the New is too taxing for them.
Well no. But it does beg the question, why would an otter travel miles up a tiny tributary system away from the major watershed river which is large enough to support its species? Mating season? Crawfish shortage on the lower New?
I know nothing about otter behavior, but considering this is the first report of an otter in the duck pond (to my knowledge), let's not act like it's a commonplace event.

Who knows maybe the duck pond is less nasty than it used to be and the otters enjoy it now (unlikey) good questions though. I know the New suffered through a long bout of high water earlier this year which could have possibly made their food a bit harder to come by there. Probably something interesting to research but I doubt there's anything conclusive.
I don't think otters need a massive waterway to survive. My dad's property in North Carolina has an average size creek on the boundary. It has otters. He has beavers too which I think is neat but boy oh boy does my dad hate those beavers.
Beavers are the devil. If you have a culvert or just want to enjoy the creek without it randomly being dammed up good luck.

Muskrats live in the creek that flows behind Harding Ave and then goes underneath downtown and subsequently under the Drillfield and into the Duck. Pond. There's all sorts of animal life in there.
Pretty sure that's the Stroubles Creek mentioned above. And yes, it's full of all sorts of cool things. I'm kinda shocked to see something as large as an otter though.

Apparently freshman ROTC folks have to run/swim out to the island. I'm told by a close #sauce that the duck shit in the bottom of the pond is 2-3 feet deep. So yeah, EPA superfund status confirmed.
