It's officially Masters week. The Women's Amateur and Drive, Chip, and Putt were fantastic events to kick off the week. Also want to highlight Corey Conners for getting into Valero via monday qualifier and winning to get an invite to the Masters.
So, what are you predictions? Anyone lucky enough to go one day? I'm a Rory homer so I feel like this might finally be his year. Jordan Spieth seems to finally have the putter fixed. If he can find some fairways watch out. Also really like Rickie so far this year. Lots of storylines heading into Augusta.

I have practice round tickets for tomorrow. Weather is not looking good but I still cant contain my excitement.

this right here! get there early for your sausage biscuit and chicken biscuit! For lunch, take one bun off of the chicken sandwich and substitute a pimento cheese sandwich for the bottom bun and enjoy. As a bonus, all of this together (4 sandwiches) will cost you all of $9. They keep the prices lower than any sporting event i've ever attended - they really work on making sure the "patrons" are happy. Heck, the beers will only cost you $4.
also, if this is your first time, make sure you walk over to magnolia lane and get your picture taken by the masters logo flower map thing. Pretty sure it is free and will be awesome for you to have to remember the experience!

What about API last year? Or the FedEx Cup in 2016? For sure agree he is a stud in wet conditions but he has been lights out this season in all conditions, leading the tour in SG Total.
Been looking for tickets for my in-laws for a couple months and finally got some this past week for Wednesday's practice round. I'm not going and I'm not even into golf all that much myself but I'm super excited for them haha. My father-in-law went when he was a teenager but hasn't been back in over 50 years!
my brother works (volunteers) in scoring control for the tournament (in one of the scoreboards). as one of the perks of this, he gets a tournament badge. he rotates it between me and a couple other people - and this is my year :)

We played Saturday morning, never pulled a pin, and I'm guessing it shaved 15 minutes off the round. Between pulling it, setting it aside, and putting it back in. 3 of us played in 3 hours.
Rory and DJ played their practice round together today. I followed them through most of the course. DJ holed out from 230 for double eagle on 15. Best golf shot I've ever seen.
Tiger, Freddy Couples, and JT played together. They were fun but the crowd around them was ridiculous.
Overall the best live sporting experience of my life.
That is awesome. I have been to a couple practice rounds myself, and I can tell anyone that has not been and who is a golf fan that this one just has to be on your bucket list. The thing that struck me most about being there is that you really don't get a sense of just how hilly this course is when you watch on TV. It makes you really appreciate the difficulty of some of the shots that much more, particularly the approach up the hill to 18.

You can switch your team around along the way, but you are only awarded points for the rounds that he is on your roster. (Say you din't have Joe Smith the first 3 rounds, but he's in the lead after a blistering Saturday. You can pick him up for Sunday, but only get Sunday points for him, and do NOT get the points for the other guys you had the other 3 days.) Another twist is you can only pick a guy twice during the 4 majors...so strategize wisely.
On a similar note to nerf's fantasy group, I do a pool for all the majors (in addition to a few others). It's a $10 buy in and all golfers are divided out by OWGR into 4 tiers. Pick two from each of the top 3 tiers and one from the 4th tier. We take the 3 lowest scores of the day and lowest cumulative score after Sunday takes the money. Cuts get an 80. We usually get around $200-250 for the Masters. Let me know if you're interested and I'll shoot you the email! It's super easy and a fun way to follow the tournaments.
I'd love to see a new Masters winner like Rickie or Rory. Anyone but Sergio or Reed.
Look, the first Thursday/Friday of the NCAA tourney is great. Superbowl Sunday is tons of fun. Saturdays in the fall are wonderful. But there is not better day to sit on your ass, drink a beer (or 7) and watch sports than Masters Sunday.

So for people who have gone I have questions about the food. (I'm a big guy food is an important part of life) what's the must try food items?
For the no phone policy what do most people do now for pictures since phones have taken over that role for most people?

And seriously, there's pictures and video everywhere. But it's so stunning in person (from what I hear) that you don't need a camera.
The food, I've heard it's all above par, but nothing is stellar. The pricing is just right though.
The pimento cheese sandwiches Are what they are "famous for". That and 4 dollar beers. Sandwiches are only $1.50. Plus the most gorgeous landscaping in the world.
What about the chicken sandwich?
Nothing spectacular but its not bad. Good enough to close the gap from breakfast to lunch.
Did some digging in the fried chicken sandwich apparently years ago the health department shut down the original guy who did it because he let the sandwich's cool naturally, like any southern does for picnic fried chicken, but that isn't allowed for commercial operations. So the masters tried to replicate it themselves and couldn't so they pulled it from the menu for a year and just brought it back.
Is the fried chicken sandwich available on Sunday? ;^)
Am also large adult son, was there on Monday, take all things I say as the Bible. Must-eat sandwiches: pimento cheese, egg salad, classic chicken. Everything else is generally skippable. Drink your cheap beer, drink your water, wear your sunscreen, don't leave without having a Georgia Peach Ice Cream Sandwich. Maybe take an extra for the road.

Anyone familiar with Blacksburg Country Club by chance? Never got a chance to play it, but got invited to a tournament in a few weeks there.
Played there in high school, but generally remember some things. A couple holes are kinda tight, most of it is generally wide open, definitely requires a couple placement and/or shaped shots.
Good deal. Greens generally slick? Grain?
Been a few years since I played so I'm not sure how the condition is currently. It is a typical old course, so small greens without a ton of undulation. They are bent grass so no grain. Not typically too slick but not too slow either. Pretty tight driving areas overall. Good variety of holes--difficulty and type--and a fun course. Rough can be thick, but I think you'll be okay this early in the year.
Wonderful course that I typically play well. I shot 91 first time out this year, which is pretty good for me (I'm barely above hacker status). Greens pretty slow right now compared to other area courses (like Auburn Hills in Riner...wicked slick two weeks ago).
One is grip and rip straight par 4 from elevated tee. Two is club selection and accuracy off the tee (don't go left or you won't be able to cross the creek with second shot) but straight forward Par 5. Three, take an extra club than you think on the par 3. Four is another grip and rip Par 4. Five is one of my favorite holes. Par 5, long but straight and not narrow (don't go long into green). Six sucks, choose long iron or wood from tee (not driver) a d don't go left. Seven is usually a hard 8 iron around 165 but downhill (don't go left). Eight is another favorite (wood off tee but is a narrow drive). Nine is a fun down hill drive, just grip and rip but don't go right.
Ten is straight and short Par 4, don't go left. Eleven is an easy Par 3, around 150 or so. Twelve is challenging but fun (use a fairway wood off tee to around 225 or so then across the creek to the green (don't over shoot the gap in the trees with an overly long tee shot). Thirteen is just long and straight, a par 5 which has trouble right but not really in play. Fourteen is long and pretty straight just don't go left or your ball is lost in the driving range. Fifteen is a long par 3, take an extra club or two. Sixteen is a long par 4, driver over the left bunker or fairway wood to the fat part of the fairway (don't hit approach shot long or you're buying some BMW a new windshield). Seventeen is a long par 5. You can cut corner over the trees with a long and high drive, otherwise just hit it just right of the big sycamore tree. Trouble left all the way to the green. Eighteen is a straight par 4 with a somewhat blind drive, just don't go left.
All of that is from memory, so hopefully it's helpful. Have fun, it's pretty forgiving course and a fun track to play. Pro tip, the chicken salad is pretty damn good.

BCC is my home course. Wildturkey gave a great run through with the course. Putting tip, take a straighter line than the putt may appear. Most of the greens don't have as much break in them as it appears.

My Day at the Masters, by Jeff Ferguson.
Was fortunate enough to go for the Monday practice session. Got to ANGC later than we wanted, but were able to watch some range/putting green work, get in a relatively short line for the merch shop (spent $575 total for multiple people), and sit on the range for an hour before lunch.
This was my first time at the new range (last time I went, they were on the old range that runs the length of Magnolia Lane and I watched Vijay Singh pound drivers over the net onto Washington Blvd. in a sight I'll never forget). Got the chance to again watch Vijay pound pills into oblivion at the end of the range, when who comes out to hit balls two stalls down from him but Tiger Woods. The swarm that happened to all the free seats and standing room at this end of the range makes me believe I could've sold my seat for some beer money. Literally, most of the complement of the USA Ryder Cup team was spread down the range (Reed, Spieth, Richard Flower, Koepka), and people only focused on TW. Even Patrick Reed moved his position to get into the stall between Tiger and Larry Mize. If Reed had gotten any closer to Tiger, he'd have actually been up his ass.
After the range time and some fueling (a crispy boy, a pimento cheese, a bottle of water), we ventured out on the course, headed backwards to run into DJ and Rory coming up the second nine. Found a perfect perch behind 17 green to watch them approach and mess around with pin placement practice, then tee off on 18. The chute down 18 tee into the fairway is one of the most daunting tee shots I've ever seen in my life. If you don't hit a perfect feather fade started at the center of the right bunker, you're not going to have the greatest of times or be in a position for birdie.
Kept on moving from there, headed to Amen Corner. Got into the woods separating 13 and 14 fairways, where a gallery marshal was showing a picture to patrons so they could understand where Phil hit his amazing 6-iron in 2010. Grabbed some pics down 13 fairway facing the green, maybe the closest to Heaven I'll ever be. Grabbed more sustenance (another crispy, an egg salad sandwich, another water) and sat in the grandstands that overlook 11 green, all of 12, and 13 tee on the hill. When I die, spread my ashes in this place.
Picked up and walked over to 16 to catch someone -- anyone -- play 16 and then skip balls across the pond to the green. Maneuvered around 16 green to cut across 7 and head up 3 to stand behind 4 and get a look at that tee shot. Abandoned 4 to walk up 2 and fully understand the elevation change from tee to green and understand the need for a hard draw started at the bunker to be in position to get home in two on a very wide but thin green. Had a moment at 8 green remembering my late uncle, who took us up to that spot to show us the incredible mounds that surround the green and require the approach shot to be mistake-free.
Finished up by circling around 9 tee (watched Thorbjørn Olesen and Matthew Fitzpatrick pound balls down the fairway and noticed Corey Conners' caddie walking with that group taking yardage notes), and walked towards 1 tee to head for the exits (weather warning signs were being posted and the horn was 10 minutes away from being sounded, so our day was over anyway).
All in all, couldn't have asked for a better day (weather especially), and really hope I can do it again. 10/10, would recommend.

Tiger looked sharp yesterday except for putting inside 8 feet. From the very best clutch putter in the world to among the worst on tour. His round could have easily been -5 or -6 and he wasn't even very aggressive, playing many of his approach shots very safe, especially through Amen Corner. If he can putt it better today and through the weekend, I like his chances.
Does anyone else get the feeling with Brooks that he just won't make a mistake this week? He gets playing a certain way in majors where it just feels like he couldn't shoot worse than 68.

It's honestly amazing to see the effect that Tiger has on the game of golf. The energy difference is so drastic I honestly can't think of another example in other sports. People who would never put on golf any other day watch because of Tiger. The "Tiger" chants as he walked off sounded like it was something you hear during a football or basketball game, but never a golf game.
