OFFSEASON 2019!
Comments
Let the offseason shitfest commence! Just bring it all!

Everything is terrible.
Conspicuously no thank you to Fuente.
Agree. I got a bad feeling about how the Fuente era in Blacksburg ends. And I do think it ends sooner than later. No sauces or even a real reason other than my typical pessimism. Hopefully I'm wrong. Until I hear a reason otherwise, I'm going to support the coach and the team. But just seems to be a negative cloud over the program right now. I'm really hoping it's just the shitty losing season. Who knows...
Gonna miss those brutal stiffarms.
Was Foster his main recruiter? Why thank him and not Fuente?
Bud was his main recruiter,
https://247sports.com/Player/Eric-Kumah-37909/high-school-62246/
This... is not what I expected. Not great.
Also, I think Kumah and Patterson were both Beamer recruits.
What's going on in Blacksburg?
What is happening is that he wasn't a Fuente recruit, his position coach left, and he has to split catches with at least two other really talented outside WR's (probably more if you include Payoute,Pinckney, and Patterson). A bummer to see him leave but it's literally the only position on the team that has enough depth to handle the loss.
Prepare to be on the receiving end of snide remarks.
No place for rational takes here good sir.
Side note: This is a loss, no spin to it. We are better with Kumah.
No doubt. I think Kumah was a great one on one threat and crushed DBs with the ball in his hands. I also think the decorum here isn't in great shape.
Haha thanks for preparing me, I've spent enough time around here to know hot takes are more well received than rational ones. Of course I would rather have had Kumah stick around he had developed into a reliable receiver, but we also have Turner, Hazelton and a host of Fr. And R-Fr. to soften the blow.
Spin zone: with all those sophs, r-fresh, and t-fresh stepping in, at least we can hear the youth excuse again this year!
But still #NotaGoodLook
Sure, maybe WRs can take a hit. But this is not a good thing. Depth is very important and Kumah wasn't exactly getting buried in the depth chart. He was productive this year.
Just wow. No good way to spin this. He was starting, along with Turner and Grimsley, over Hazelton.
Not great on many levels.
There's really no glass half full thinking for me on this; this guy made plays for us. This sucks ass.
I'm sure people will mention how Hazelton and Turner would likely be at the top of the depth chart, and how we have Patterson, Grimsley, and then Ellis will be coming up, but Kumah was a big physical receiver who could win one on one battles. This is a loss no matter how you cut it.
Additionally, the fact that another player leaving the program doesn't even acknowledge the head coach is something that is becoming a trend.
The state of the football program is not well in my opinion.
Not everyone is going to like a head coach, especially ones recruited by a different coach. This is a reality that people have to understand.
Yes but without any insider info to why it's easy to draw the conclusion if he's not gonna even mention or thank fuente that maybe that might be why. Wish it wasn't like that but it's easy to read it in this one
Not sure why you'd bet on Patterson at this point.
I'm not, just saying others might. I think Kumah was a dependable WR who we're going to miss big time.
Patterson couldn't catch a pillow handed to him!
That one handed spring game snag says otherwise
Do we have any insight into why players don't s3m to get along with Fuente?
You serious??
Yea I mean is it as simple as the "my way or the highway" or "they were Beamers guys" explanations?
And are these explanations just speculation or are they substantiated by comments from former players\coaches?
I certainly have my assumptions, but what is it specifically?
Sooooo with Cunningham and Kumah leaving (and whoever else,) next year we're going to be a team of just Freshman and Sophomores again?
yeah, but we'll finally be just 2 years from turning the corner
I wonder if this is what Tre Turner's "business is business" tweet was about.
Also stripped all references to VT off his Twitter...
What? Tre Turner did?
Yup, header image is "Patience...God is testing me #God's Plan"
WTF! Are there deeper problems in the football program than just having a down year?
Yup. Pretty much.
The "Beamer recruit" excuse doesn't fly with me anymore. Spring 2016 was nearly three years ago. If these Beamer recruits didn't mesh with the new coaching staff, I don't think it would just now be causing them to leave. I know Wiggins is gone, I know we have a lot of receivers, yadda yadda yadda. I'm not buying any of it. There is something wrong with Virginia Tech football, and it's not going to get better under Fuente.
Transfer rules have something to do with it. Cunningham would have lost a year of eligibility. Kumah would have had to redshirt. Some kids just want to play and will wait it out.
Both played a considerable amount last season. Kumah started against Cincinnati. The first game depth chart isn't decided in January.
That's exactly my point. Had they transferred earlier they wouldn't have played at their new school due to transfer rules.
I agree and I've felt it since mid season. Can't put my finger on it just a bad feeling.
Sooo...is it safe to say that I should just stay in the barn for the rest of the day? Away from the internet? Asking for a frie....nah, I'm going to bed, see y'all later
How do you even log on with hooves? Is your password 12345?
probably something like qweasdzxc
We must destroy odu
I see some rational responses on the horizon
I have a ton of things swirling around in my mind. But for starters... ODU? That's the best he could do??
Had the same thoughts as you. Feels like he just ended his NFL career before it began.
You have no idea how close they came to getting Hill too.
How close
If you could see how close together my thumb and index finger are right now, you'd definitely know!
Damn Kumah. Guy caught everything so sad to see him downgrade.
r/funnyandsad
curb_theme.mp3
Oh fuck no 😬
I have no sources for this, pure speculation... but I imagine he thought he'd land somewhere more high profile than ODU. I remember early speculation was PSU or even Bama.
I actually feel kind of bad for the kid. One positive is it might give kids a bit of pause before they do the portal thing.
I think he wanted PSU or ND, Bama was never happening with their WR group. He wouldn't play a snap in Crimson.
Then ND and PSU became TxTech and ODU.
I just hate we're gonna have to face him next year. Dude is raw, I was pissed he left
He wont have to sit next year?
He'll be a senior
Well they threw for 500 yards against us last year without Kumah, so yep...
McClease and Kumah are perfect examples of how to properly negotiate the transfer portal (McClease)...and how not to (Kumah) in my opinion.
I'm sure once Kumah realized he wasn't getting those offers to PSU and ND, I'll bet he wished he hadn't burned his bridges in Blacksburg.
Either way, hope he finds what he is looking for at ODU and conversely I want the Hokies to beat the living shit out of them on Sept. 7th
Of all the transfers this feels like the biggest head scratcher. Your explanation that he burned his bridges not realizing he wasn't going to get high profile offers make some sense. But still... ODU? I'm real curious what the heck was going on behind the scenes that Fuente couldn't just offer an olive branch.
It seemed that kumah was publicly trashing fuente and likely a part of the locker room issues
Kumah took too long to develop and was only on the field because Tre was too young and later Hazelton got hurt. He never lived up to his full potential and that is still unlikely to happen at ODU.
Put Farley on him.
I'm going to have to disagree with the general sentiment that Kumah's talents weren't desired here, and it feels like sour grapes to imply otherwise. Sure we got other receivers who are arguably better, but no one else on the team seemed to win jump balls like he could. With that said if he was truly a locker room liability as others have implied, I would agree he was nowhere near enough of a star to get away with that crap.
He's a junior that got passed by a sophomore and a freshman. It ain't my grapes that are sour.
He publicly trashed Fuente and mocked VT openly. How many passes do folks want to give these guys? I realize the "they're just kids" argument, but good God you have to be held accountable for your actions at some point.
I keep seeing that he trashed VT and convinced Asante not to come to Blacksburg... is any of that publicly documented, or is it all paywall info?
Yeah, his twitter account. I didn't say anything about Asante, who knows what the real truth is there, but insiders have really beat that drum HARD.
I wish Kumah the best, he will always be a hokie to me, well maybe not for 3.5 hours in the fall.
So Kumah basically just "Le'Veon Bell"-ed himself...
At least Le'Veon is getting paid to end his career
Which makes it even worse for Kumah.
The team chose NBA as their motto for a reason. We good.
yeah what's that mean
national basketball association
but like
why's it the motto
because we only want ballers! if you aint a baller you can take your a$$ to the NBDL or the ODU.
No Bitches Allowed
Was my favorite player the last two seasons. Good hands and excellent strength. Going forward: double barrels 🖕🏻🖕🏻
At some point you have to turn off the choke and let the engine run. Can't idle forever. C'mon Fuente!
don't be surprised to see chris Cunningham end up there as well. so far schools that have shown real interest in him are ECU, ODU, lousiville and that's about it, UGA, SYRACUSE, FSU, and GT all had earlier but like kumah have and kind of cooled, ODU really rolled out the red carpet for kumah and Cunningham on their visits. I wish them both the best kumah can be productive at ODU for ODU as a team but I don't think at the end of it he will be happy with the personal gains he experiences from it. I wish him the best, and hope caleb locks him down when we play him. We all know he is callable of playing at a high level against P5 football teams and making plays, I wouldn't brush him off as "hes not that good anyways"
I wondered how other schools would look at some of the transfers the longer they were in the portal. I thought that character or other issues that were reasons for someone going to the transfer portal may eventually come out. And when they did, if that would cause a cooling affect for some teams. So they may have decided the tradeoffs weren't worth it.
Apparently Miami didn't care with Hill, though he may be a good fit for them anyway.
Of course Miami doesn't care. That's their brand.
eh I talked to CC shortly after he entered the portal and he said he wasn't in any rush to make a decisions that he wanted to go on visits during the spring and watch practices and see how he would fit in and how he would be used and not just buy what he was being sold but actually see it for himself, so he really prolonged the process for himself (he still hasn't committed and is still going on visits) . for him he really felt like he was being under utilized at VT (obviously with the push of Rambo and Mitchell coming on) he wanted to show case his ability to be a true TE and not extra lineman. Who can blame him, whether he thinks he is better than he is or not these are kids chasing their dreams to get to the NFL and this was his last chance to try and show scouts what he could do. hes already graduated. I think its case to case though, for a guys like matrell, fields, hurns, theyre being told basically this is your job so go be successful its on YOU, guys like kumah and CC were going to have to compete at a school like ND, FSU, penn st. for playing time so for them they really needed to find a good fit somewhere that they felt they could be successful.
It sounds like there is a difference in approach for CC. I wouldn't doubt if he would be welcome back to VT, however I don't think some of the others are.
I've always felt that being at a smaller school won't necessarily hurt you these days if you blow it up there. With the amount of coverage for every team now, someone has tape on you somewhere.
I also feel differently for some of the guys who have graduated. I can see it from an academic point of view too, as they may want to have a grad degree from another school. I've always felt that I wouldn't return to VT for grad work unless it really made sense. So wonder how much that may come into play for some.
I know I am kinda bringing up old stuff but 👀 at that 40 time, might not make ODUs team
For reference, Erik McCoy ran a 4.89 at the 2019 NFL combine and was drafted #48 overall by the Saints to be their starting center
I was just about to say that he's flashing some offensive lineman speed.
Point made.
Yikes.
Just.... yikes
That dudes just a troll who has been mocking Kumah and josh Jackson this morning. Wouldn't take anything he says as gospel
Yeah this is obviously a joke.
"SpicyBaseball" reporting on ODU football here.........
GTFO.
A deeply sad existence
Kumah was always a poor man's Anquan Boldin, but 4.92 is especially slow.
Edit: Account has 11 followers, looks like a joke account.
Kumah's game was never about speed though. He was a guy who developed to make catches in traffic and use his body to beat defenders while the ball was in the air. 4.92 is pretty slow but if you can make yourself open one way or the other, it doesn't matter as much at the end of the day.
Kumah was one of my favorites as it seemed he won 90% of his fifty-fifty balls.
His strength was literally...his strength.
See:
Broken tackle for TD against FSU:
Brutal stiff arm of Blanding vs. UVa:
Stiff arm against Blanding was gangsta.
love that block by the GRIMsley Reaper on the TD vs FSU
60% of the time, he made the catch every time
This guy has been going at Kumah all day for some reason. I'm not sure what his deal is, but I went through the rest of his Twitter and don't see anything pro-VT.
He has some #vtanchorsplash tweets earlier, so I'm guessing he's a Tech student.
Yeah, this dude seems like the worst.
