Yeah, at this point it's borderline money laundering.

Borderline?

lol

laundering $1 bills like a boss!

For someone who isn't great at understanding economics/financing & is unfamiliar with the payouts for bowls, college sports, etc. could you explain a little bit of what you're referencing? Thanks!

In a baseball stadium no less. When I saw the headline I had a feeling I would be underwhelmed. Suspicion confirmed.

You get a bowl! You get a bowl! Everyone gets a bowl!

That's the thing I don't care how many bowl games there are. It's fun to watch and with a decent location a great trip to make. What I hate the ACC for is having bowl games in NYC, Boston, Detroit, Birmingham, El Paso and Annapolis especially in December.

Some of those locations are close to a LOT of ACC fans. Certainly Annapolis is very convenient to the D.C. area.

I didn't mind Annapolis. Easiest trip I have ever made to a road game. Even with the outcome it would have been a great day if it hadn't been for the shitty weather.

If Annapolis was an exception not the rule for ACC bowl spots I might agree but it's the middle ground of ACC bowls instead of being the bottom which is a major issue in my book.

The cold rain never stopped at this past year's bowl in Annapolis - but it was only about a two hour drive. Took my Dad to the game...made a great memory for less than a couple hundred bucks. Glad there's a game there.

Hard disagree.

Detriot, Birmingham, and El Paso are way different from Annapolis, NYC, and Boston. The former are not nearby the ACC, and none are major cities (maybe Detriot is, but it's a meh place to visit). Annapolis, NYC, and Boston are all nearby major airports, within the geographic footprint of the conference, and have plenty to do there. Not to mention that you can fully explore all three of these cities without a car. I get it that it's cold in those places, but It's not like it's 85 and sunny in Jacksonville in December.

TL;DR - NYC/Boston/Annapolis >>> Jacksonville in December.

EDIT: IDK why I chose to pick on Jacksonville, but my point is I'd rather go to a cold major city in the north than a city/suburb where it's going to be 50 degrees.

Going off his previous statements I believe Fireman is just not a fan of cold, whether major cities are involved or not. I'm with you though.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I think we can all agree that the Bahamas bowl was a great idea, who doesnt want to go to the Bahamas in December.

The ACC is taking the long view... In 20 years NYC, Boston, Detroit and Annapolis will be warm weather sites in December.

That "association" with ND football really paying off in terms of major bowls.

The cost/benefit to member schools is certainly in favor of the deal.

Sure is, I mean how many college teams get to play in such a historic stadium. You only get that with the prestige ND brings.

Another very on-brand bowl tie-in for the ACC. It's almost laughable at this point.

Guys, guys, settle down. They are just trying their best to get to loluva into a bowl game without having to make an exception for a 4-win team.

I get the joke, but we were a 4 win team when we had to beat them to get to a bowl game.

That's how I see it

I'm guessing the predicable and cliche VT vs. ECU in the inaugural edition

Be weird to have the ACC champs in this game but cool I guess.

I mean on the bright side it would be interesting to be in one of the US sports cathedrals for a football game.

On the dim side, Boston in December

I'm not sure that more bad football is all that great.

I'd be OK if only half the teams in the NCAA got to a bowl game.

But then 20 teams around .500 won't make a bowl

And? Win more games! Or don't go bowling.
The amount of money spent and LOST on bowl games is silly. And they plya that we can't have a bigger playoff because of player safety, yet here we are playing meaningless games in bad weather around the holidays...player safety?

I understand the "reward" is more practice if you qualify for a bowl. So cut it back to 15 bowl games...30 teams of 123 or a quarter get to play in bowls. And the rest...get two extra weeks of practice automatically.

I think that two extra weeks of practice would not be as effective if there wasn't a game to focus on.

Then only a handful of teams earn the reward of playing in a bowl game or the playoffs, and the rest get to watch.
43 bowls is ridiculous. All under the guise of extra practice. Either give it to everyone and trim the bowls, or stop banging the drum about player safety.

I would be ok of every team had a bowl game. It forces some matchups we would never see otherwise.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

I think it better to have destination bowls and then end of season games which pairs everyone else up based on competitive match ups that take place at one of the teams stadiums.

Sucks for the players, but I LOVE watching snow games. Hopefully this bowl game produces a snow game and not some cold rain game.

At least this way ESPN finally gets a bowl game that will actually look full with only 15k fans in the stands.

The view from on top of the Green Monster would be really cool (and probably really cold too.)

Great, another bowl game to aspire not to play in.

I read that there are now enough bowl games that 65% of the NCAA teams will be playing in a bowl game. I was never a stats guy, but doesn't this ensure that there will be teams with losing records in bowl games?

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

The fact that FBS teams get to beat up on FCS teams to pad the stats make the math funky. Even if you assume that every FBS program wins their typical FCS sacrificial cupcake, the average win percentage would be 7/12 (58.3%)? If every FBS team had two FCS matchups, and always won, the average win percentage would be 2/3 (66.7%), barely above 65%.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Consider that more teams finish in the middle than on either end (think bell curve), and consider that almost all teams that finish with a winning percentage above 41.7% become bowl eligible, and it starts to make a little more sense.

Having jammed my full size ass into the half sized seats at Fenway for a baseball game, I can say I will not be attending any bowl games there.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Stupid! If it's for money good luck with that ACC.

I think we're at bowl exhaustion. I'd much rather go back to having fewer bowls with higher quality teams - when bowls meant something. Now, we're on the fringe of having 5-7 teams play for a slightly improved losing record. How is that rewarding?

Because it's more free football for fans.

Ohio won 9 games they weren't going to miss a Bowl.
Army won 11 games.
Most of the other games involved P5 teams. So yes those games were good to watch.

If we're gonna post box scores of blowout bowl games, can we at least post last year's NCG for the sake of continuity and science?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I don't understand who is exhausted. Having less bowl games won't make the remaining bowl games better. If I have a gripe at all, it is that we have to wait a month to watch bowl games only to have prestigious matchups overlapping on the schedule. Spread them out more so I can watch them all.

The obvious cure for that is a DVR.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

Yes because #1vs #2 was such an exciting game. While the military bowl had a couple of crappy teams that had the most lead changes and was close the entire time.

I've never been to Boston. I do wonder, though, why not more warm-weather bowls. Surely there are more warm weather sites. I guess they figure ACC footprint, but BC doesn't have a local fan base.

"Deeds, not words." Ace Hunter, Megaforce

There are high schools in Texas with better stadiums than the Bermuda Bowl. They might be exciting destinations, but if warm weather is your criteria, you could have 100% of all bowls in 60+ degree weather.

To summarize the changes for the ACC (including info I found at other sites):

-If the Big Ten goes to the Orange Bowl, ACC gets the Outback Bowl instead of the Citrus Bowl.
-Belk is alternating SEC (odd years) and Big Ten (even years) as the ACC opponent.
-ACC picks up game at Fenway and the Holiday Bowl.
-Quick Lane Bowl (Detroit) has been dropped.
-ACC is no longer part of the Music City Bowl.
-Gator Bowl is permanent ACC vs. SEC.

Nice part about the last two is that even if the ACC keeps the nebulous tier format, at least it's more straightforward. (ACC will go to the Music City Bowl in 2019, as the Gator Bowl has already used their allotment of three ACC teams during the six year deal.)

All but two of the bowls are against P5 teams, although by the time we get down to the bottom of the list, we'll probably be seeing some G5 teams sneak in as conditional picks.

This all takes effect in 2020, so it doesn't affect the upcoming season.
