I'm a millennial so take that as you will, but that was sick. Even though the prequels were trash, including the lines from Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan really added more emotion and backstory to it.
The CGI and choreogoraphy were really good. Not overdone so they look like pingpong balls bouncing around (like Yoda in the prequels), but just a solid lightsaber duel.

I like the idea to update the fight, but the original is perfect. Let me explain:
The fight in a New Hope is super symbolic of the Jedi and Sith orders. Old, out dated, out of practice, and kinda clunky. Darth and Kenobi haven't fought another lightsaber wielder in literal decades at this point. Even in later fights in 5 & 6, Luke is largely quicker than Darth which saves him several times.
The "remake" of this fight was in Episode 3. It was Darth and Kenobi at the height of their power, razor sharp, war heroes who fought strike for strike as near mirrors due to how they trained. It did a fantastic job of showing the fight would have been a stalemate if Darth's hubris didn't get the best of him. This second fight is just "LOL Obi sucks, commit sudoku" when it really should not have been.

I would assume if they were to remake the battle scenes, they would have to remake all of them that include those characters for it to be consistent. Luke could still be quicker than Darth in the later movies, just not as polished with the force.

I enjoyed the mock up a ton! There's some fantastic fan made content out there. You can see that there is a lot of criticism of the newer movies in this thread. It has nothing to do with the choreography of fight scenes. We have some of the best produced action scenes in all of Star Wars history at the moment.
The Last Jedi's action sequence in Snoke's throne room was goddamn epic. The problem is, none of it feels very earned in the grand scheme of things.
In A New Hope, Luke wasn't very good. He got lucky a lot and had tremendous guidance from Kenobi & help from friends to just barely scrape by. Loses his hand in 5. Gets lucky his dad helps him out in 6. It was about relationships & failure. The Force Awakens sees Rey beat a trained sith in a lightsaber duel the first time she uses the saber. It also has Finn flying a tie fighter when he was an assigned janitor.
The action set pieces are more beautiful and engaging than every before. The story and character development may be the worst.

I think there will be an explanation of the reason people can use the force so much more easily now.
IE The force is now balanced you no longer need to be trained or uber into the force to be able to use it now. Examples of this include Ray, and the kid that the end.

If he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally.
In ESB, Vader is trying to lure Luke into the carbonite chamber, so he can be taken to the Emperor and trained as a Sith.
In RotJ, Vader is just trying to straight up turn Luke to the dark side then and there by taunting him with the ambush they've set for the Rebel Alliance.

Then I've got 2 questions: I think from most folks' perspective, the duel in ESB can be broken down into 3 sections (with the 1st broken into 2 subsections). 1st Section: in the main chamber. 2nd section: below the main chamber (with the big round window). 3rd Section: the platform (above the garbage chutes).
In the 3rd section, Luke narrowly avoids a surprise killing blow from Vader. So if Vader isn't trying to kill him, why the attempted surprise slice (at the beginning of section 3)?
In ROTJ, I think it can be concluded that the duel was split into 2 sections: 1st, before the Emperor's throne. 2nd, below it.
My 2nd question: if Vader was merely trying to push Luke to the dark side of the force (like Dooku in ROTS), then (towards the end of Section 1), why did Vader try to slice Luke after getting side kicked down the stairs? Also, why did Vader toss his saber directly at Luke, which would/could have killed him??

In ESB, he is trying to capture Skywalker but if he can't, killing him is regrettable but acceptable.
In RotJ, it's a mixture of trying to provoke Skywalker into using his fear/anger to secure his path to the Dark Side and Vader using his own fear/anger which can cloud your judgement like "maybe I shouldn't slice my son/potential apprentice in half."

I don't think he was even trying to kill him in ESB. He took some heavy shots at Luke, but by that point he knows Luke is his son, is strong in the Force and has been trained by Obi-Wan. He knows Luke can take what he's dishing out.
Also, while this is retconned a bit, compare Vader fighting in Rogue One to how he fights Luke. I have no doubt Vader could have ripped through Luke without issue had he actually wanted to.

You completely disregarded the attempted surprise kill slice at the beginning of Section 3 in ESB. Additionally, (now that I've gone back & rewatched it), you also disregarded Section 2 where he nearly killed Luke using the force. When Luke got sucked out the window, he could've died.
Plus you say Luke was trained by Obi-Wan, as in the master of Soresu (Form 3). The form used to defeat Vader the 1st time. I don't think you're giving Luke his proper due. Even though Vader improved & became better at combatting it, he was still cautious and weary.
Luke got in a couple of shots on his old man in their 1st match up. Dicing through force non-sensitive rebel troopers with blasters is completely different than going up against your own seed (which is almost a force sensitive as you are). No he wasn't a Jedi yet, but by that point he was as powerful as most Jedi knights. By Epi 6, Luke was as powerful as most Jedi Masters.

I like the original and this one as well. This one showed more use of the force which is missing from the original since it is supposed to be the 2 strongest Jedi left fighting. Darth Vader becomes a bigger villain in this new version because he comes off as a much stronger opponent, rather than just a slightly better swordsman.

This reminds me of how badly I want a Vader-centric standalone in the vein of Rogue One or Solo... not necessarily an "origin story", since we have one of those, but more of the lore that made Darth Vader become DARTH VADER. The crazy fight scene in Rogue One really really made me want that so badly.

That last scene in Rogue One is what made it go from a very good movie to a great movie. When the smoke-filled hallway is lit up by Darth Vader opening up his lightsaber it gives me goosebumps.

Yes, absolutely. Vader in 4, 5, and 6 never really scared me like the story was supposed to. I mean, his 'evil' in those movies was what, walking down hallways, force choking a few dudes, beating an old man in a clunky saber duel, and basically toying with Luke in their battles. Oh, and sensing the force, a lot. And then the prequels happened, and he turned into a whiny little bitch. And then Rogue One happened and he was the same old Vader for most of it, until that end scene when he just wrecked shit. That was the first time in the entire series where you got to see the side of him that supposedly terrified the rebels and made them think was impossible to beat.
Give me a movie or two of Vader just wrecking shit and suppressing rebellions set between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One and it could be good. Show just how intimidating the Sith must have been in their final form.

I agree that a Vader-specific movie would be EPIC, although I still think Darth Vader in the original 3 movies is literally the greatest villain in the history of movies, television, books or video games.
Slightly off topic, but anyone who hasn't seen when Sheldon Cooper stalks James Earl Jones after finding out on social media that he's eating at a nearby sushi restaurant needs to see it:

This. Rogue One started dealing in nuance that the numbered movies never really have -- the idea that the rebels weren't all "inherently good" and just because someone was part of the empire didn't make them "inherently bad". I just want to see a movie where you have to reconcile everything you know about him (the dark side, the younglings, etc) with this "other side" of the rebellion that doesn't do things "honorably", doesn't care about collateral damage to innocents/civilians, etc with the parts of the rebellion that we're familiar with and conditioned to root for. Rogue one does this, but it does this largely from the perspective of new characters (to the movies) and not from "the bad guy" Vader.

There is a really good comic series that is exactly what you you want. It's official canon also. I am not a big comic person but I found them online and devoured them. He is really freakin evil in a couple issues.

I've watched this so many times...I hate the special editions of the original trilogy, but this would've been a great upgrade especially when you watch Vader in Rogue One and the original fight in Episode 3

Well he does (albeit in error) cut short his training in order to go rescue his friends. In the dialogue between him, Yoda & Obi, he knows he shouldn't, but does anyway. Almost willing to sacrifice himself. That seems pretty noble to me.
