Nerd's Grab Bag Pt II: June 7th Boogaloo

Grab a sack and check out some smaller stories from the interwebs.

Hokies launch a new recruit media campaign

A handful of the same graphic popped up on twitter from recruits.

The fresh graphic seems to be well received despite stealing the more confident version of Gatorade's slogan.

Also making an appearance is a throwback to the TerrorDome. In a time where attendances are sagging, can the stadium keep producing seismic activity?

Former voice of the Hokie gets new toys

Good old Bill Roth got some cool new additions for the work he is doing at teach in the Comm department. Features a tasteful Hokiestone installation and that atrocious new academic logo.

The Drives to end all drives

OX on twitter has being doing a series of the 10 greatest drives in Hokie History. Great way too look back at some program defining moments. Featured here is his #2 selection.

Better look at FB office redo

A quick look behind the scenes of a more modern looking office. Stills were released previously, but some video adds a bit better feel of the scope of the project.

Head Hokie and Hilgart Have Hi-Tech Help Healing and Honing Home Heroes

Home heroes is a bit of a stretch but I was alliterating dammit.

Empty seats plague even the best

To end the week, a quick look at attendance numbers for the national champs. A little surprised to see they did not sell out a single home game throughout the year.

Great post. +1

This is the kind of stuff that we need to make a more regular part of TKP. Fun headlines that are enjoyable to read the summaries of. Thanks!

I appreciate the feedback! I always feel a little bad there isn't as much engagement, but these snippets really don't have anywhere else to go.

Really wish they didn't go with academic swoosh VT for the TV studio.

What else do you expect? Bill Roth is a faculty member in the Communications Department, teaching a course. It's 100% academic. I get that it's sports journalism, but none of it has to do (formally) with the Athletic Department, which is a separate organizational entity.

"Exit light..."

Won't this be used for new ACC network broadcast too or is this separate? What will it take to pull a Michigan and merge the school under one logo, the athletic one that everyone knows?

Separate. This studio is in the Moss Arts Center and was announced a year ago. Separate from ACC Network stuff, which is housed in Lane Stadium.

And if there's going to be a logo merger, the academic one is going to win because VT just invested a large sum of money to develop it. Like it or not, it's here to stay despite complaints. The administration doesn't really care if people don't like it. The students are good with it and it has grown on many of them (and even some faculty).

"Exit light..."

Seems like a missed major opportunity. If places like Michigan, anOSU, Washington, Oregon, OK And Miami have all done the move to one logo it should have been something Tech looked at.

I am not as die hard against the logo as some but this mentality seems strange to me. I would be interested in poll results across a large sample of a good cross section of alumni. If the logo is as divisive everywhere as it is here, I think the school needs to admit failure and not be stubborn.

It's not divisive everywhere. The change was met with a resounding "shrug" on campus. New students only know this logo. Everyone else just said "weird change, but whatever." Internet forums were the only place I saw comparative outrage, aside from some colleagues that shook their heads and wondered if that was the best use of money. I know zero people that actually care about the logo.

"Exit light..."

Dude come on. You gotta cut it out with all this bag grabbing or we will have to get the police involved.

The Clemson thing made my head spin. Not one single damn sellout? With that team? I know it's a large stadium but damn.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Agree that was the best comeback and game winning drive of Tech football ever

Saw it live and in person and firmly agree. Best. Ever. What a game.
