OT: Boran out at Oklahoma (sexual misconduct)

SOURCE

David Boren is out at Oklahoma after sexual misconduct allegations.

He agreed in a two-page resignation letter to give up his president emeritus title, stop teaching political science at the university and let go of his four free tickets to home football games.

He will no longer be entitled to an administrative assistant, a teaching assistant, a campus office or even a parking space. He also is no longer authorized to speak on behalf of the university in any capacity.

For those who don't know who Boren is, he's a bit of everything:

  • Former Oklahoma Governor
  • Former Oklahoma Senator
  • Former President of University of Oklahoma
  • Big 12 Board of Directors Chairman
  • Taught PolySci at OU

"It's as complete a separation as you can get," OU Regent Gary Pierson said. "We cannot erase history so he will always be a former president of the university. But he won't have any right, title or interest in the university going forward."

No details out yet, but this must be pretty big for OU to immediately separate with (arguably) the most powerful person in the state.

It's probably worth noting that Boren hasn't actively been serving as university president since last July.

I would say there is no question Boren was the most powerful person in the state of Oklahoma. Powerful man thinks he can get away with anything, live at 9!

I have a mother and law and two sisters in law that went to OU, and they mentioned there was some rumbling of this but no details. There really is no comparison from a VT perspective. Imagine Beamer getting fired for sexual misconduct, and multiply that by a 1000, that's how much bigger a deal this guy is in that state.

T. Boone Pickens is the only other person from the state of Oklahoma who touches as many people as Boren, but agreed.

Rephrased: T. Boone Pickens is the only other person in the state of Oklahoma who is as well connected as Boren, but point taken.

That's a poor choice of words in this thread

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

I love how the headline of the linked article simply says "cuts ties with University". Seems like "sexual misconduct" should be in the headline. If you're going to publish an article, publish the darn thing.

It sounds like it's more of a "forced resignation" than anything voluntary on Boren's part.

Does this mean we're going to lose Buzz or Fuente to OU?

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

I've got #sauces that say you can consider Buzz as good as gone
