When this was cancelled, I stopped watching series in their first season because I was so bummed. This show was well written, good acting, interesting, just a great show.

The Wire. It's arguably the greatest television series of all time, so of course I'd want more. Would be interesting to see how new technology has changed the game.
Runner up: The Sapranos. Just so we can know for sure what actually happened in the closing scene.
EDIT: How could I forget Chappelle's Show?! The second best sketch comedy show of all time (behind SNL). Would love to see it over the past 15 years.

The Office by far. We just need more. Steve Carrell has gone on record numerous times saying he thinks it wouldn't be as good, and he's concerned that social attitudes have changed since the mid-late 2000s and people may find the humor offensive. But The Office is the top-watched show on Netflix. So much so that NBC is pulling it off of Netflix soon so they can put it on their own streaming subscription. I think one more season where everyone sort of randomly ends up together again would be hilarious.
I also want more Star Trek TNG. Seven seasons was just not enough.
That's really all I watch on tv anymore. I've watched The Office so many times through that I can almost quote some episodes.

I fall into this trap in every TV show discussion. I really liked The Office and I would consider rewatching it some day but there are so many quality TV series that aired in the last decade or are still airing that I struggle to understand why people repeatedly rewatch a series. Look through past TV threads for suggestions but some of my recommendations would be The Americans, Broadchurch, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Justified, True Detective, Chernobyl, The Wire, Better Things, Louie, Atlanta, It's Always Sunny, Rick and Morty, Arrested Development, Archer, Silicon Valley, Man Seeking Woman, Parks & Recreation, Bojack Horseman, The League, Fargo, and New Girl.
Anyway I would say there's actually an overabundance of fairly high quality TV and I feel like it's more enjoyable to try different things- but maybe that's just me.

I watched the office for the first time this year, and I found the humor not so great. Basically the show was all about sexual harassment for the majority of the first couple of seasons, which is fine, but it got boring after a while. Not everything in an office environment is funny because of a sexual harassment.

The first season and part of the second are kind of slow/awkward, but the show really picks up toward the end of season 2 and in season 3. Michael becomes less of a sleaze and bad boss and more likable, and he and Dwight really develop into some funny characters. Then the whole saga of Jim and Pam's relationship also becomes a focus of the show.

It's always a mixture of writing (since the show is so self-referential, they have to be sure it all fits), animation time (as I understand it, a lot if the cels are still hand-drawn), and their budget is still rather small.

They did a full 1st season. Cancelled it. Fan outcry brought it back for like a 8 episode second season and then they cancelled it again. The second season ended with a cliff hanger if I remember correctly. Apparently the producers continued the story in comic book form which I may have to check out.

My Grandparents didn't find Seinfeld funny and I don't think they would have found the Office funny either.
It's a generational thing. Seinfeld is about 4 people who are constantly dating people, sleeping around, and basically having modern NON Victorian Era norm things. Socially it wasn't made for my grandparents, but for my parents generation it fit perfectly, and I enjoyed it too.

I never really found Seinfeld funny, or the office for that matter. I loved the League which was created by one of the Seinfeld writers. I enjoy Always Sunny which seems to have a large overlap in the viewer venn diagram. Just nothing on seinfeld made sense, not in the absurd way in a stupid meaningless way, the show was about nothing and that's true because the characters were nothing. There was no reason to root for or against any of them. It's just boring.

Serenity was a good movie, but was horrible as far as closure goes. Firefly needed 2 seasons to complete some of the arcs whedon started. Given his track record, it probably would have gotten mundane after that.

It wasn't just that. The show was phenomenal, well written characters, nuanced morality, a fun space cowboy vibe.
It was shown on FOX, but was shown at like 9 PM on Friday nights, a time where there aren't a lot of eyeballs on FOX. To aggravate matters, the original airing was not in the correct order (https://firefly.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Firefly_episodes) and the show was promoted as an action comedy instead of a more serious character study with comic relief. There was some seriously heavy stuff planned for later in the series before it was cancelled.

I really liked the show and could always go for more of its humor and characters.
I'm not asking for better/different conclusions, I just want more of it is all.
Kind of sparked a different question in my head, but I think as I'm saying I wanted more I'd actually want more in the middle of the current series, just so it's longer. I don't know if I'd necessarily enjoy more just tacked onto the end like some of the shows on this thread would require due to discontinuation.

I guess my perspective is that I finished the series partially because there was a light at the end of the tunnel before it had gotten too stale. If you added another season, would the show just end up with an additional stale season before they got to the conclusion? If so, I might have given up on it like I did with Homeland, Weeds, and House.

I suppose it depends on how you want to interpret the purpose of the thread but if it's mostly about adding another season to your favorite show, why not just ask what everybody's favorite show is? Since that discussion has been had a few times before, it seemed like an interesting twist as there are certain shows that would particularly benefit from being revived for 1 season. All I'm saying is I don't personally see how HIMYM could be anywhere on that list.

My personal pick is Bloodline on Netflix. They had to wrap up the show in the 3rd season because of some tax laws in Florida, so it was rushed as hell and I am sure it would have been more interesting to go down the rabbit whole they were on.

Justified is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, but I think it's that way in part because it ended before it got stale. I wouldn't change a thing about that one. Although I have to admit it would have been entertaining as hell seeing Raylan break bad and team up with Boyd.....

I will also have to admit that I was so invested in the show that I literally shed a tear at the ending with Boyd and Raylan's conversation and the words "Because we dug coal." Damn, that was good TV.

I'm not sure how I feel about bringing it back, but there are times that I think it would be pretty cool to watch "House" again. I know that it's the same damn thing over and over again, but some of the character dynamics were really good and he's such a master of sarcasm, smart-assery, and cynicism.
Also, I don't know if anyone remembers "Over There," but I enjoyed that while it lasted.

- M.A.S.H. Unfortunately, Alan Alda is too old now, but a reboot with Hawkeye running a CSH in one of the modern theaters would be must watch TV.
- In a vacuum, The Cosby Show. Obviously, he's a terrible person, but that was a great show.
- GoT with all of the time, budget, and writing they want/need.
- Quantum Leap. It wasn't always the best, but it was always entertaining and interesting.
- I stopped watching Designated Survivor in season 2 because it became just another political drama. I don't know if things changed, but if that show continued more like the first season, I would be all over it.
- Speaking of political dramas, West Wing. It's been mentioned, but that show was good enough for a second mention.

The problem is that they had all the time and budget. HBO basically gave them a blank check, the showrunners just said they were done with the show. I can't really blame them because they had to basically come up with the last two books since Martin is too busy being a celebrity. Factor in the flack they received for some of their story ideas I'd probably want out too.
Another season or two wouldn't have really changed anything.

I would have said Twin Peaks, but then they literally did exactly what this thread was about in 2017.
As for my next choice, probably Mad Men just because I enjoyed watching it so much. I think they ended it well, and may be risking passing that "too long" threshold, but I'd love to spend more time with those characters.
Futurama is another choice, deeply underrated show in my opinion.
Actually ignore everything I've said above, the real answer is Red Oaks. I would have LOVED to have another season (or multiple season) of Red Oaks.

At this point it would be M*A*S*H 4077 beyond the twilight years-- Follow Hawkeye, Radar, Hot Lips, B.J. and Klinger as they reminisce the Hell of War (although Hawkeye would argue that "War is War and Hell is Hell and of the 2 he would choose Hell") and those they have lost. The Swamp and OR are replaced by an old folks' home and a hospital--with lots of flashbacks.

I had a friend who refused to watch The Wire because it was filmed in 480, not 1080. The Wire is slow moving at first, but it's worth it.

Watched 5 minutes of one episode and turned it off. The characters were annoying. Do not understand the hype.

If so, I might have given up on it like I did with Homeland, Weeds, and House.
I would hope it would be done with some of the better writing that the show saw.
Agreed that if it was just a season of filler it wouldn't be worth it.
Is anybody on here arguing that an additional season of the shows lesser quality material is what they're looking for?
I suppose it depends on how you want to interpret the purpose of the thread but if it's mostly about adding another season to your favorite show, why not just ask what everybody's favorite show is? Since that discussion has been had a few times before, it seemed like an interesting twist as there are certain shows that would particularly benefit from being revived for 1 season. All I'm saying is I don't personally see how HIMYM could be anywhere on that list.

My personal pick is Bloodline on Netflix. They had to wrap up the show in the 3rd season because of some tax laws in Florida, so it was rushed as hell and I am sure it would have been more interesting to go down the rabbit whole they were on.

Justified is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, but I think it's that way in part because it ended before it got stale. I wouldn't change a thing about that one. Although I have to admit it would have been entertaining as hell seeing Raylan break bad and team up with Boyd.....
I will agree that it ended before it got stale, but it just kept getting better every year so I'm still not willing to say it couldn't have stayed good. I will also have to admit that I was so invested in the show that I literally shed a tear at the ending with Boyd and Raylan's conversation and the words "Because we dug coal." Damn, that was good TV.

I loved Sons of Anarchy. I also liked the first season of Mayans. Looking forward to where they head with it.
Imagine a season where they focus on an adult Able and his story with SAMCRO. Definitely Agree that Mayans was bad compared to SOA.

I'm not sure how I feel about bringing it back, but there are times that I think it would be pretty cool to watch "House" again. I know that it's the same damn thing over and over again, but some of the character dynamics were really good and he's such a master of sarcasm, smart-assery, and cynicism.
Also, I don't know if anyone remembers "Over There," but I enjoyed that while it lasted.
More Friday Night Lights. They could have done the show in Philly when he moved!

I would have voted Deadwood if HBO hadnt just releasdd the ten years later movie to close it out.
In no particular order:
- M.A.S.H. Unfortunately, Alan Alda is too old now, but a reboot with Hawkeye running a CSH in one of the modern theaters would be must watch TV.
- In a vacuum, The Cosby Show. Obviously, he's a terrible person, but that was a great show.
- GoT with all of the time, budget, and writing they want/need.
- Quantum Leap. It wasn't always the best, but it was always entertaining and interesting.
- I stopped watching Designated Survivor in season 2 because it became just another political drama. I don't know if things changed, but if that show continued more like the first season, I would be all over it.
- Speaking of political dramas, West Wing. It's been mentioned, but that show was good enough for a second mention.
I'm a big Cosby Show fan, but it was getting kinda stale towards the end and Olivia was getting annoying. I really liked when they focused on Pam and her friends..."Where you gonna keep a fleet of trucks in the projects, brotha?" LOL..
Now that you mention it, I had the older seasons in mind. You're right though, it was all down hill after Olivia showed up.
Designated Survior became so repetitive. President has a problem, things go down to the wire, mostly success, slight blow back, repeat.
The problem is that they had all the time and budget. HBO basically gave them a blank check, the showrunners just said they were done with the show. I can't really blame them because they had to basically come up with the last two books since Martin is too busy being a celebrity. Factor in the flack they received for some of their story ideas I'd probably want out too.
Another season or two wouldn't have really changed anything.
Factor in that they had just signed a fat contract to work on the next star wars trilogy, and that they were tired of shooting in remote places for a decade.
I don't think my Simpsons joke hit the target as intended, but my real submissions would be Freaks and Geeks and Scorpion.
Freaks and Geeks is fantastic and it's amazing how practically all the actors on the show went on to have great careers.
For sure. Even the one who didn't turn into A Listers are having really great careers. My favorite, Bill Haverchuck (Martin Starr) has been in everything!
I would have said Twin Peaks, but then they literally did exactly what this thread was about in 2017.
As for my next choice, probably Mad Men just because I enjoyed watching it so much. I think they ended it well, and may be risking passing that "too long" threshold, but I'd love to spend more time with those characters.
Futurama is another choice, deeply underrated show in my opinion.
Actually ignore everything I've said above, the real answer is Red Oaks. I would have LOVED to have another season (or multiple season) of Red Oaks.

Travelers - this one you could even do with an entirely new cast and not break continuity in any way. Though I feel like the end of season three was a good one.
I would be all about another season of Travelers. I watched the first two seasons right before the third season was released because my wife had said it was really good. Got really into it just in time to learn it was about to be over.
Does Sherlock count? If so Sherlock is my answer. I know Cumberbatch and Freeman have said they're open to doing more and the producers have said it's not dead they're just focusing more on Dracula 4 years between the seasons has been killing me.

At this point it would be M*A*S*H 4077 beyond the twilight years-- Follow Hawkeye, Radar, Hot Lips, B.J. and Klinger as they reminisce the Hell of War (although Hawkeye would argue that "War is War and Hell is Hell and of the 2 he would choose Hell") and those they have lost. The Swamp and OR are replaced by an old folks' home and a hospital--with lots of flashbacks.
