I don't do much reading from the opposition's viewpoint, so with that said, this can't honestly be how most view the ACC, right?
I mean, could this scenario happen? Sure, I suppose you can't write it off, but Duke and Wake Forest have no business being in this group and we're all aware of Pitt and BC's lost production from last year that made them nothing more than above average in a group of mediocrity.
I wouldn't sleep on Wake. Theyre capable of beating anyone that overlooks them sans Clemson.

I'm with you. Not a lot going on, so I did a Google search for Hokies news and this was the hit.
The only one I would throw out is Duke. I could conceivably see losses to the other six though. Pitt has always given us trouble, ND and Miami on the road are tough, BC will be a serious week one test for our D, don't sleep on Wake, and if we are coming off a couple tough losses going into Cville, that game gives me serious heartburn. Team morale hit the skids down the stretch last year. Let's hope this year, NBA makes that a little different.
It's not that I don't think a retooling BC and Pitt aren't going to be tough outs, more so that I just think lumping half the schedule as "conceivable" losses for the Hokies paints an overly pessimistic outlook.
What good does an optimistic picture do when recent history suggests otherwise? I told myself after last season that maroon and orange glasses were not healthy.
There's a difference between "not overly pessimistic" and "optimistic". The truth is that we probably win some of those games but not all 🤷🏻♂️
We are currently a 2.5 point favorite on BC, so losing that is certainly a possibility. Wake and Duke are well coached and will be right there for a bowl game. The others easily could beat us.
But this is losing every single swing game.

This is true but that also coincides at least partially with what they think the realistic outcome will be. They have adjust it up for optimistic fan bases and lower it for pessimistic ones, but they're usually a good indicator of the expected season
then you also remember that home teams usually get -3 baked into the spread and Hokies -2.5 @ BC isn't exactly pickem territory. we'd be 5.5 point favorites on a neutral field
But it's not a neutral field so that doesn't really matter. Home field is an advantage
but evidently it's not enough of an advantage to shift the "realistic outcome" of us winning.
I wonder if home field advantage is better or worse for games among P5 teams on opening weekend

Each of those is a conceivable loss. Losing all of them is inconceivable.
Pretty negative outlook there imo. I actually think we knock off the canes this year as long as our defense improves.
This kind of statement is always so silly, to me. "... could be 2-2..." is the same as saying "...could be 4-0, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3, or 0-4...". You need a qualifier like "likely will be" or "is predicted by X to be".

UM going to win by 14...yet VT has the 11th most returning starters. Okay?

On one hand, it seems overly pessimistic about this season
On the other hand, last year was a disaster with the team being 4-6 before the desperate wins at the end. But the way the season played out, we were a miracle fumble against UNC and a couple head scratching screwups by UVa away from finishing the year 3-8 with a loss to ODU not needing that extra game against Marshall.
So... yeah... I really have no idea what to think about this year. It could be a bounce back, or the bottom could give out and we absolutely tank. And honestly, I can't fault anyone for thinking either scenario to be the case.
I just don't see a scenario where we're worse than we were last year. We were super young and those players should now be playing at a higher level given the experience and summer in the weight room. The D couldn't get much worse and I'm sure they are working to plug holes there. While we don't lose a ton of production, some of our opponents do. I dunno, I guess we'll wait and see. While we could continue to slide back, I happen to think we could take a big step forward offensively and the defense should be better just based on experience and knowledge of what went wrong.
I think this is the best prognosis for the upcoming season. Now if injuries happen at the wrong position (which is just about any position) . . . then all the Negative Nancys will be justified with their pessimistic takes.
We have been super young before and have been super good (Our first ACC Championship).
Last year we were super young, and pretty bad.
So who the hell knows what shows up this season.
It is amazing how much crazy lucky shit had to go our way for us to beat the Hoos last year. Like, we used a whole season's worth of luck in that game.

Under "Personnel", he lists 5 QBs, one not on the team. He goes on to name two WR and one TE. He focuses entirely on the offense with no mention of the biggest factor for the 2019 season, the defense.
It really makes you appreciate French's break downs where he goes piece by piece through what schemes were doing, how plays were setting up, and the interplay. From that review, you would think every play is a big play for Tech except when Willis stares down a receiver.
Summary: This article was written 30 minutes before a deadline and sucks.
Willis may never be able to run a zone read but he does need to look off the secondary. Maybe Kadum can bring that element to the QB room; his HS film suggests he's very good at it.
I still say Kadum was a steal and has the skills to be very good. Before anyone reads into this, I realize his measurables aren't great, but skills are the most important QB attributes. He has a chance to challenge by his 2nd or 3rd year in the program.
I don't know about yall, but there isn't exactly any reason to think there are any teams on our schedule we should easily win. I'm definitely nervous about all of them lol. But that will make the season fun.

By the way, this article made me appreciate French's write-ups so much more. This was hot garbage takes from a back seat driver.
French is like reading a rocket scientist breakdown the equation for the speed of light in a way that everyone understands what is going on and why/how it is happening.
