I went there to see if there were any football articles and it is telling me that I need to subscribe ($100/year) to read. July 27 seems like a weird day to start a new paywall...
Let's see, $100 for mediocre coverage due to staff turnover vs. $84 for TKP and ~$50 for The Athletic... Sorry Roanoke Times I guess I won't be visiting your website any more.

I mean...getting the paper delivered daily has it's own price. Why the hell put it online for free? I get the point of the post, but at the end of the day...
This is America. The press is supposed to be free!
When I lived in the area, I subscribed for 26 years, now I'm away and I have to ERASE all that loyalty, though I believe in the free press. I haven't had YOUR problem, though, and because of my long HISTORY with the RT, I'll shut up now.
You're more generous than I was going to be with the OP.
To the OP:
It's been subscription for years online. You get a certain number of free views. There really aren't that many articles of interest each month. So, limit your clicking or view them other ways.
I'm in California now so don't check very often. I guess I used up my free views.
Sometimes if you view the site in incognito you can avoid the subscription. WaPo used to have that loophole but looks like they closed it recently.
They closed a month or more back it but it seems to have reopened within the last week or so.
There's always VPNs. But I've noticed that some companies have started blacklisting them recently.
I always thought the Virginia Pilot had the best sports section
