From what I've heard both Kaleb and Austin should see decent minutes on the field this year too. Good news all around!

You know what? We can get so caught up in the transfer portal and sports illustrated articles and all the day to day noise... AND THEN we get to celebrate a guy who not only walks-on and battles on the field but then takes on his own demons and literally battles for other people's lives!

And good for Smith. He flipped his commitment from a scholarship at Wake to walk on for us. I'm glad to see it pay off.

Wake fans think Smith is a quitter who didn't want the pressure of performing at a level to justify the scholarship.
Walking on at VT was the no pressure, easier option. They are glad he is not on the team.

Congrats to Seisay Cannon and Smith for earning Scholarships through their hard work and dedication ! This is the way to use the new rules ( the portal ) for a win win . Bring in some kids with growth potential and if some of the scholy kids don't cut it and want to bolt then these kids earn the schollies vacated. It will also bring the baseline depth talent up . Seems maybe Fu and them saw this coming, appears we have a good group of walkons at VT . Hopefully Philpott , Driscoll and Simmons keep working and earn theirs and solidify the depth on the DL . Could do wonders for moral and makes for competition .
