This is STILL going on! Brock Hoffman has still not been cleared?! He hasn't heard back from the NCAA? Too bad he's not a softball player, or a player in 25 other sports, where you're eligible immediately. https://t.co/sxkYG4WHIk— Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) August 27, 2019

There are a ton of Cam'Ron Kelly replies here....wasn't his reason to be back closer to home for his mother and sister's health...he's like 100 miles outside the 100 mile radius...

If I was a big money donor, I would find the best lawyer in the country for something like this, walk into their office, open my checkbook, and start putting zeros on checks. It's time to start locking the NCAA up in court for every last one of these.

Judging purely from the comments that have been said on here by people who claim to have some kind of knowledge here...
It sounds like VT might not have handled this in the most efficient way possible to the point where we might have filed for the wrong kind of waiver up front, which has only further complicated the timing of this whole thing.

Ironically, The Landers Nolley fiasco turned out better for us in the long run. Had he played last year and played well, he may have followed Buzz to aTm!

Exactly why the AD needs to invest in lawyers. Have the shit right the first time, and if Indy is still dragging their ass...start suing them. I hate advocating for lawsuits, but these kids shouldn't have to waste a year of their lives and possibly eligibility to get these things worked out. I mean, it's one thing to deny a legit claim outright. Even if it's wrong, you know what they're ruling is and you can adjust fire and move on from there. But keeping everything in limbo is even worse because they have to wait before they can even make a move.

If it was consistently slow across the country, I would get it, but these big money names with very questionable reasons for immediate eligibility see to just be rubber stamped.

The NCAA has denied Brock Hoffman's final appeal for immediate eligibility, per Virginia Tech. He has no more avenues for a waiver. He'll have to sit out this year. #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) August 27, 2019

According to the NCAA transferring immediately cause you're a bitch who's scared of Justin Fields is >>>>>> Not immediately giving up a scholarship when you're family has insane medical bills due to a serious medical diagnosis.
According to person familiar w/the NCAA process, the ultimate reason Hoffman was rejected was he did not transfer quickly enough after his mom's initial cancer diagnosis. Diagnosed & had surgery to remove a brain tumor in Jan, 2017. He transferred to VT two years later
That was going to be the grounds for his appeal, but in true NCAA fashion they changed the rules mid-cycle saying they weren't going to approve such requests.
They have decided they're expert medical professionals because the only good you can do for your family is immediately upon the illness or event. There is no such thing as ongoing medical issues. /a

Tate Martell gets immediate eligibility because ??? No one knows.
Brock denied because VT is 5 friggin miles outside the 100 mile radius AND suddenly the NCAA is medical experts and has determined his mother is feeling better.
He needs to file a suit. Not an appeal. An actual in court suit.

This is a profoundly disappointing outcome. There are a number of things turning me off from pro football and the NCAA and money involved is really beginning to have a negative impact on the college game. I feel really bad for Brock on a personal level.

Yeah, the biggest minus of the year delay is we won't get to see Brock Hoffman on the same field at the same time as Rambo Keene, unless it's in the NFL. The awesomeness of that might have caused D-lines to spontaneously combust.

I'd buy tickets to a Jay Bilas v Mark Emmert Cage Match. You know Jay would be down for it.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm convinced the compliance office messed up during the Landers Nolley fiasco.
We need a Jugs take on all of this.

The student themself apply for the waiver, so while Tech clearly helped him a lot of it is up to the student and their family.
Somehow we need to get T. Boone Pickens pissed at them.
Nothing like an angry old man with money to burn to tear'em a new one.
We need Tahj Gary's dad to get mad at them.

NCAA is a complete disgrace.
FUCK
According to the NCAA transferring immediately cause you're a bitch who's scared of Justin Fields is >>>>>> Not immediately giving up a scholarship when you're family has insane medical bills due to a serious medical diagnosis.
Maybe he should have stayed someone called him a racial slur during a baseball game.
Barely conceivable that this is possible but somehow this just makes it even worse
I thought the appeal was about his coach leaving the program, which opened up a wider avenue to get the eligibility. hmmm
That was going to be the grounds for his appeal, but in true NCAA fashion they changed the rules mid-cycle saying they weren't going to approve such requests.

I would donate to a GoFundMe to make this happen

#ifTatewhynotBrock?
What a pile of horse shit.
Agreed. From someone who knows...
This will play well on social media.
What will that accomplish?
Normally I would point to the power of social media in the current society but NCAA
Yup. Can't shame an entity with no conscience.
Disgusting. Fuck the NCAA.

Come back strong in 2020! "There's a Monster of the Loose...."
Time to go to war.
Someone explain how his case is different than the one in the link, aside from this guy actually being further outside of the 100 mile mark.
Fuck the NCAA
114 miles away... Granted
105 miles away... Denied
Brock's Response
Didn't want to start a new thread for this, so using this older thread - which seemed appropriate to use - to share this:
https://hokiesports.com/watch/?Archive=12967&type=Live
This guy is gonna be a beast...And a great leader on the field.
Someone count how many times a variation of the word "leader" is used in that video. Really excited to get this monster on the field.
This would've been fine to start a new thread for, as its a different subject, I'd even encourage you to do so in the future. 🍻
To: NCAA
From: Brock Hoffman
To whom it may concern
Also, Brock, please say your mustache game is trying to be this strong

I mean we still have Rasputin
I thought he was Mega Jesus
Not to go on and push the religious line, but would you rather have the mad monk or prince of peace?
You make a compelling argument I like it
CLAHS graduate...arguments are my forte
