A Moment of Clarity - Post Edit

Originally this post was an on the go thought about converting Devon Hunter to RB to get him in the game more often, however I realized my post ruffled some feathers in our Hokie Community and I felt the need to really speak my mind. I meant no ill-will to the post but I felt it necessary to adjust.

This movie clip from Rocky Balboa is one I would post in losses during the Beamer era, but watching it now just makes me feel this is how we as a community feel about our program today.

I feel we are lost in transition and a lot of fans are angry and upset about where the program is...with Bud retiring after this season we are in a serious culture shock. We want to hold on to yesteryear but are scared of what the future will bring to our beloved Hokies. We fear that Fuente isn't Beamer (but deep down we know he is a good coach working through the transition). We look at our team and are scared that they are not what we once were.

I'm not going to lie...I was really bummed out about the loss to BC, frustrated and agitated to be honest. On Friday I found myself watching the VT vs A&M game from 2003 "The Hurricane Game" and man those all maroon everything jerseys were awesome. I truly feel that we need to revert back to our Jerseys from 2000, During a discussion with a co-worker this past week I said all the blue chip programs dont even consider changing their jerseys even if they are as plain as possible. Why do we continue to adjust our "image" with these flashy new age uniforms that will be changed again in 5 years! Just stick with the classics!

Anyways this rant has gone on long enough:

Is coronavirus over yet?

Calling out a player like this is garbage

VB born, class of '14

No

Stupid post - he is gonna be good. Used to be a guy who becomes a 2 year starter was a true success. Now due to everyone who thinks they are a football expert due to Madden and star rankings can call out players.

I applaud Devon for his hard work, loyalty and willingness to learn. I think he will be a star - a true Hokie as well.

I'd disagree. The next play Hunter makes will be his first. He's on track to become Joel Caleb anyway, so you might as well move him to RB.

There's a lot to be critical of, but a redshirt sophomore who has been praised for his maturity and team-first outlook not getting playing time behind a senior captain ain't it.

Is there a "/s" missing here?

what are you talking about?

Please read this Whole article on the Roanoke times about Hunter. Most other guys would have transferred but this guy was willing to work through the process to get to where he is. 4-5 star guys have a lot of pressure to perform and when things weren't clicking for him or when he got hurt, he didn't sulk, he worked with the coaches and has become a legitimate 2nd stringer and next Rover for us. Again please read the entire article to get a good perspective.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Great answer. Personally, he is one of my favorite players and counting his out as a redshirt-sophomore is just shameful. As a Hokie fan, most people can relate to many of the players over the years who have overcome various forms of personal adversity,

Great athlete, great kid and that article shows some of the real context.

Really great article on Hunter (first time I've read this). I thinking having Hamilton as his position coach is going to make a huge difference (as a coach and as a mentor). Really like him learning under Floyd this year and hope he becomes an impact player for the 2020 season.

He was the biggest example of the poor coaching last year (Nix), basically losing a year of development. Give him a chance. He's going to be good, even making some plays today.

We put the K in Kwality

I think he voluntarily sought a redshirt last year when he knew it wasn't clicking as fast as people were expecting. It'd be great if we had a team full of Devon Hunters.

I'm sorry but I think you guys took my post the wrong way. I was just thinking of ways to get him in the game. No need to attack me on this one.

I think your edit is great. One I agree with. I think it just came at a time where there was a barrage of negativity and other threads like "Keshawn King" so people hammered you. +1 dude. It's good to have you around.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

I thought that might be what you were going for, but it was a bit vaguely worded, and the negativity on the site at that time wasn't making much allowance for nuance. I think we'll be seeing more of Hunter, but not as a RB.

Hunter played today, I'm confused about this post

I'm anxious to hear French's take on Hunter yesterday. The couple of times I noticed him, he was in pass coverage on run plays and missed seeing the runner coming out of the backfield.
