Biggest Tulane comeback since before Katrina. Pretty cool.

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

Took the Houston ML and checked the score at the half. Went to bed feeling good. 🤦‍♂️

EDIT: also took the Air Force ML but stopped following the score at halftime. I'm sensing a trend

Dana is a terrible coach. Houston looks bad this year.

Dana walked into a tough situation there. I think he's a top 40ish HC in the country. WVU is a difficult job (between being a state with a decreasing population and being the blacksheep of the B12), and he did some impressive things there.

Super glad I watched the 4th quarter of this game.

Well I guess I'm drinking for starting this thread in the wrong forum.

Do I delete my post, or does it get merged?

found a clip of that last Tulane TD:

Just realized every PAC-12 game on the schedule today features a ranked team. When the hell did that happen?

Is it safe to say we're all ODU fans this week?

Pretty safe. But if uva is up big at half I'll watch something else I'm leaving!

Onward and upward

Pitt might get murdered today

So far this has not aged well but its early

Michigan just got Danny Coale'd. Wasn't A TD or anything, but a pretty bad over turned ruling nonetheless

I hope it's a curse!

Michigan's only chance in this game are big plays like that one. Wisconsin is decidedly better on both sides of the ball. I'm not even sure if Michigan has a tailback suited up in this one.

reading the cfb thread for the Michigan/Wisconsin game, looks like Michigan has the same QB situation as us, starter not playing, fans clamoring for the back up but the coach wont do it

Their QB hasn't been bad. They are wholly overmatched on both sides of the ball. Nothing a backup QB will fix.

Jonathan Taylor ran for 100 yards in the first quarter, then left with an injury. Wisconsin is still pushing the ball down the field at will (albeit in smaller chunks). Their offense is trying to isolate their athletic advantage on big plays downfield, but Wisky defense is shutting them down.

BC following up that Kansas loss by being in a tight one with Rutgers.

Fuck.

28-0 Wisconsin without Jonathan Taylor, Michigan getting spanked makes me so happy

I don't wanna jinx Wisconsin... but they've played 10 consecutive quarters this season without letting anyone score. I'm impressed.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

As always the key will be:

Can they play from behind?

Can they throw if the run is stopped?

They also likely will play Ohio state twive.

So Tennessee and Michigan will likely be hiring this offseason.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

I don't think Tennessee will be... I know their fans are beyond irrational, but I think Fulmer has the clout to force them to wait. I don't think Michigan will either; Harbaugh is a pretty is good coach, has twice been one game from making the playoff.

They haven't even won their division once much less the BIG and he hasn't beaten OSU once right? Michigan isn't going to accept that much longer.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

Harbaugh has history of having a short shelf life at most of his previous stops.

I would not be surprised to see him leave after this season for "other opportunities" and given his prior success in SF, likely an NFL team out there willing to take a chance on him.

Redskins maybe??? Mid-Atlantic Harbaugh takeover...lol

Chris Ash looks like Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell looks like Chad Smith

Onward and upward

Wisconsin's OL and run game are awesome

Yeah I'm jelly

Onward and upward

I have never been more jealous of an other football team as when Wisky lined up for a 4th and 1 with seven OL and two more OL in the backfield. The RB wasn't even touched until he had already made the line to gain. No one, not even Michigan, doubted for a second that they were going to get that first down.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

Wisconsin has now lost both starting safeties to targeting calls. One bad one legit.

apparently we offered Jonathan Taylor a scholarship?

Probably a good thing for him that he went to Wisconsin. He'd be getting 3.8 ypc in Blacksburg

Onward and upward

Believe we also offered Trevor Lawrence. *shrugs*

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I know we have a mountain of our own issues, but what in the hell were people looking at when claiming Michigan as a Playoff team? "Urban Meyer's 'retired'!" I don't get it lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Bruce Feldman (and others in the media) visited Mich during the offseason and were really impressed. There's also been a lot of hype around OC Josh Gattis, who's moved up really quickly, coaching under Moorhead and Saban. Additionally, there was a lot of hype around Shea Patterson. Highly recruited QB, everyone thought he would take the next step this year, but it appears he hasn't. Then, look at the circumstances in their conference; OSU losing Meyer, Wiscy and PSU both coming off subpar seasons. Finally, Michigan is one of the 16 teams that has more than 50% bluechip ratio (the ratio historically required to win a title)

I see, acknowledge, and agree with all those facts, but still...Michigan. That highly touted defense of theirs got their lunch handed to them last year at the Shoe. Other than that one game (lol I brought 1 example to a gun fight) just a gut feeling.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Wisconsin is dominating Michigan on both the offensive and defensive lines....I miss watching football like that from our guys.

Agreed. Watching Wisconsin, I wish we could have an identity like that. Great defense, strong and physical run game, and consistently punch above their weight class with their recruiting.

We did. 1995-2010.

We put the K in Kwality

The irony here being that this was VT football in the 2000's.

Not a shot at you btw. I completely agree with your statement.

Other odd thing is back when that was the identity, winning 10 games a year, the boards were chocked full of ppl wanting us to "get with the times" and go to a spread *shrugs*

I'm looking across the scoreboards right now and its just ugly for the ACC. IMHO there are only 3 watchable teams in this league right now - Clemson, Wake, and ... [vomits a little]... UVA...

Cal Ole Miss was crazy ending.

Ole Miss got screwed there. That was a TD.

I know it's early, but Pitt is destroying UCF.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

It was early

UNC currently getting smacked around by Appalachian State.

It's a shame our team isn't very good this year, because the Coastal is dogshit.

App State is all over UNC this half. UNC got bailed out by a really bad PI call on this last drive that ended in a FG too.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Pitt is pounding UCF. Wow

Did you see that roughing the passer call where the guy didn't even touch the QB. Hell of a flop!

UCF is good, but I honestly believe they would have gone 10-2/9-3 at best in any Power 5 league each of the past few seasons.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Honestly, they probably would have easily won the Coastal the last few years

That's not saying much...

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Woooo UNC feeling us last year. Started out high as a kite to the bottom of the damn barrel.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Ok, can you be called for targeting if you intercept the ball and then lower your helmet into the opposing QB?

Just asking for a South Carolina player......

DONT TOUCH THE QB! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, SHOOG! DAMN. YOU KNOW THIS. (I didn't see this...just wasting time.)

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Didn't see the play you are referring to, but I'm pretty sure that lowering the crown of your helmet can actually be called on the ball carrier as well.

It's a rule you hardly ever see called, but it does exist

Methinks Wake was the only ACC team that showed up ready to play this week. On a different note - anyone catch a glimpse of the FSU stands? I know we're having our own crisis but FSU fans have taken this to a whole other level based on the turnout.

And now that Willie Taggert's Second Half Foldrida State team is down 24-21 what few people are there might be heading for the exits.

The LewDew, Professional Golf Bum

36 year low attendance. FSU won.

Savage simplicity

Can we all take a minute to savor the fact that Miami is only up 7-2 at halftime against Central Michigan?

Embarrassing Miami play is the most fun You can have on a bye week without having to cuddle after

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

It's only embarrassing if we don't lose to them.

24 unanswered points by UCF after being down 21-0

that tends to happen to mediocre, yet extremely volatile teams like Pitt.

Lol to the FSU kid who just gave a double bird to the team just now. Pretty trashy, but it is pretty wild that a team with as much talent as FSU has gotten this bad. They just completely fall apart as the game progresses.

This seems an appropriate time to remind everyone that Steve Spurrier is still undefeated in smack talking.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Leave it to Narduzzi to give up easy points while re-injuring his corners by putting them in press man when they can't even run.

Guess that corner just needs to play better.

and it leads to 7 points for the Nard Dogs

In a single drive that led to a Pitt TD no less

Temple down 21 to 1-2 Buffalo (who lost to Liberty last week) in the 4th, 1 week after the Owls had a decent win against then-world-beaters Maryland. I officially no nothing about college football.

If we were apoplectic about the odu game I can only imagine unc fans rn

Pretty sure you could switch the Coastal with C-USA East and no one would notice.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Guess it's clear why Tate Martel transferred.

At this point I'm down for all the ACC crashing and burning. Louisville, pull it out vs FSU. App State, go get em you hippie hillbillies. ODU, do yo thing, boo. If we're gonna shit our britches every weekend, I want everyone else to smell bad, too.

Not sure why App State called that timeout. UNC was on their way to a delay of game.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I just hate watching the talent drain from Va. to unc and fsu and then do relatively little.

Players: you dont have to go so far to be mediocre.

Narduzzi continues to do just enough to not get canned.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I gotta admit, I was hoping he'd pull this one off.

That last play was really cool.

Wow that play was nicely drawn up

Funny how Pitt manages to beat top teams with regularity despite limited resources and consistent mediocrity while we always fall completely flat on our faces when given that opportunity

This is true, but Pitt sure falls on their face with regularity, too.

They just somehow pull off upsets here and there.

Good we have more fun with him than any coach.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

So does UCF drop completely out, or do they barely stay in?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Anyone else blocked out of the LOLUVA - ODU game on YouTubeTV?

Don't look now, but ODU is up 10-0 on LOLUVA.

A lot of people are going to want to transitive property UVA higher in the rankings after that Pitt upset, but they're definitely mortal.

I wouldn't mind seeing that proven today.

ODU opening drive took 7:30 off the clock for a field goal, LOUVA went 3-and-out, ODU drove down the field and scored a TD.

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

ODU had a big time eating drive to open but settled for a field goal. UVA went 3 and out and had a bad bounce on a punt. ODU capitalized for a touchdown after a big play down field got them back into the red zone.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

UVA may want to pencil in that L against Miami too because apparently they can't handle any team with one of our former players on it.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

17-0 ODU...I now believe Cunningham and Kumah went to ODU to act as our "inside men". They helped ensure our win this year and to subsequently help ODU embarrass UVa

that's some deep state stuff.

Sadly, that Joe Reed run got UVa some great field position. Now they're likely to get some points on the board.

Lmao I just saw the score, FAM!

Bryce Perkins scatbacks another touchdown.

UVa's secret weapon.

Hopefully, ODU gets another score before halftime.

UVa's secret only weapon.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Perkins is a slippery fuck.

I hate UVA. Watching that drive gave me almost the same heartburn as if they did that against us...

OMG Georgia's crowd. Lit af.

I've seen those lights only one other time, at Martinsville Speedway (shoutout). First speedway with LEDs. The first legit nightrace they hosted a couple years back, when they went on to do driver intros they brought that disco-ball shit and blew my damn mind.

Anyways...Sanford looks hype as shit and rightfully so.

Duke has lights like this. The game last year in Durham was a ton of fun.

Someone please go punch this commentator on the face if he refers to Perkins as "magic" one more time

Nice stick by the ODU DB. That would've been a first down catch.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Well, that wasn't a very Smartt play.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Gave away seven points there. For no good reason.

Can the announcers be any more jubilant for UVa?

Definitely hometown announcing.

I'm starting to really hate Snowden. Just because the announcer is drooling over him.

ODU falling apart now.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I guess UVa is going to help them out a bit by tangling up Kumah.

Notre Dame has a 6'4 250 lb WR. I'm already having nightmares about him and we haven't even played yet.

uva sucks

Notre Dame seems to always have Wrs that size.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Smartt needs his receivers to want the ball as much as the defenders do.

Edit: That was a great time to run it.

Edit #2: The announcers really, REALLY like the Hoos. No way around it.

They really hated us when we played ODU, both this year and last.

Georgia OL blocking with their shoulders and driving through with their legs... a joy to watch.

ODU is doing a great job of sustaining drives long enough to shorten the game, but they won't win if they can't get at least one more touchdown.

French what you think of the Keion White kid for ODU?

I'm torn in this ND vs UGA game. On one hand, I hate ND and don't want them to win any games. On the other hand, I don't want the SEC to have any ammo to be able to say they "deserve" to have two teams in the CFP. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!

I got mad respect for UGA and their program, still stung by the 06 bowl game, but they have been and always will be a power program.

Flip side, I got sick and tired of Notre Dame this, Notre Dame that, by the time I was 8. Can't stand them or their fans, or their high horse they like to ride in on. A national level UVA. Fuck em.

Never thought I'd say this, but go ODU! (Puke)

ODU with a blocked punt.

Maintains their slim, 3 point lead.

ODU what are you doing?

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

dumb move by them.

I have to say I'm glad we were off this week, several upsets. (not that is losing would be an upset *sigh* ). And almost all of the Coastal teams played terribly (except Pitt).
Then again, any day where UNCheat loses is a great day.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

UVa gets a huge break.

ODU coach loses mind and goes for it on 4th and inches from their own 30 yard line.

What in the world was Bobby thinking?

uva sucks

He really wanted those inches.

Sadly, he traded 7 points and didn't get them.

If you give the Hoos points, they accept them.

That decision wasn't very Smartt.

I liked going for it, hated the playcall.

In a game this close, gambling 7 points is too high a risk.

Maybe he can dial up a 10minute, touchdown drive.

Agreed

UVA attacks the middle of the field in ways I wish our coaches would consider

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Well it helps they have a better QB than we do.

Willis vs ODU - 16/28, 272 YDS, 2 TD, 0 INT, 8 Rushes for 34 Yards and 1 TD

Perkins vs ODU - 15/24, 175 YDS, 1 TD, 0 INT, 14 rushes for 35 yards and 1 TD

Pretty comparable numbers IMO.

edited to update Perkins final stats for the game.

also adding more info since using a one game sample size is not enough for sevenlayersofplayers:

Willis - 62/96, 739 yards, 7 TDs, 4 INTs, 31 rushes for 42 yards and 1 TD
Perkins - 81/124, 843 yards, 6 TDs, 4 INTs, 51 rushes for 193 yards and 2 TDs

Perkins has played one more game than Willis.

I am wondering if Perkins makes it through the season without injury. He takes a LOT of hits.

He takes a lot of hits, but he's like Gumby.

maybe not so gumbyish

Yea, he was pretty banged up when LOLUVA came to Blacksburg last year, I expect something similar will probably be the case.

Yeah because using a one game sample size is a really comprehensive comparison.

Beats the zero you brought to the table.

Here's the thing about your stats (and all stats really), they only tell part of the narrative. They don't tell you that Willis plays on a team with a lot of talent around him while Perkins plays on a team with very little talent. They don't tell you that Perkins is that entire offense while Willis is only a piece (a piece that doesn't really fit). They don't tell you that Perkins is the single player that defenses have to scheme against while Willis is not.

No person in their right mind would try to begin to make a case that Willis is better, or even as good as, Perkins.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I agree that stats only tell part of the narrative and the fact that Perkins is a one man show on offense and LOLUVA's defense is pretty decent (not great but I would say pretty good). However, the reason for the stats goes back to sevenlayersofplayers original statement of fact (or so he would lead everyone on here to believe without actually providing any evidence) that Perkins is better than Willis. I would say that they both have their strengths and weaknesses and that overall they have similar stats. I am not ready to pronounce Perkins "KING OF ALL QBs IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA" which is why I made those stats to begin with unlike sevenlayersofplayers. "If you wanna crown 'em, then crown their asses!!"

Perkins is just plain elusive carrying the ball in the backfield. He's deceptively fast and can make tacklers miss.

It's a unique skill, and he uses it a lot to make broken plays into first downs.

The stats also indicate that Perkins is a better runner than Willis by far. I agree he is a very elusive runner and makes something out of nothing more often than not.

You know whats crazy about that kid... You can have him dead to rights and he can still make a play. He isn't so much elusive as he is slippery.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Helps that the ODU coach gave UVa 7 points.

If Fuente did that, the torches and pitchforks would be out.

I take great offense to the play by play man calling that a Vince Young move when it was obviously a MV7 move.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

When you break a crazy QB run on the old NCAA football games, Herbie and Corso say "there are no words to describe what we just saw. Reminds us of a guy who played for Virginia Tech" for a reason.

I can't believe ODU is going to hold UVA to 0/9 on 3rd down, ~250 yards of offense, and lose.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Two of the touchdowns were given, not earned.

Bobby Wilder should be fired tonight...i turned it when he went for it on his own 30..

ODU just looking desperate at this point.

And there it is, Perkins is down.

I expected it to come on a play where we wouldn't slide though, not getting lit up on a bad snap.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

And...

He's back in after one play.

Seems only fair.

Transitive Property: VT beat ODU 31-17, LOLUVA beat ODU 28-17, therefore....

We beat LOLUVA by 3.

Was actually wondering how that outcome would affect all the madness on this site recently

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I'm curious if LOLUVA fans are melting down the way VT fans did on this website after LOLUVA only beat ODU by 11 after being favored by 30.5 points.

edit: I also wonder if they have a ODU "MEH" thread as well.

I don't know what their fans are thinking, but I see a team that isn't very good without Perkins.

Gary Danielson is going all in on calling out ND players right now.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I think the one that just happened was legit but the other one wasn't...the teammate literally pulled him to the ground...

BTW, I guess fromme and Willis have the same coach for running the read option because he's always handing off..

I like that he's calling it out. Give the player the benefit of the doubt, but when you catch teams signaling for injuries, hold them accountable.

I miss the voice of Verne Lundquist.

Troy Pride and Lawrence Cager...two players heavily recruited by VT..

Probably also two players who would be under utilized in Blacksburg...

So jealous of Georgia. The gulf in talent, passion, and discipline on the entire sideline is so obvious. Maybe one day.

Imagine watching this game and thinking "wow I wonder how much more revenue they take in than us."

Honestly it's very easy: new LED light system they used, 2.2 million for recruiting, plus the additions and upgrades to the stadium and locker rooms they talked about on TV. Yes it's clear that you can see teams with higher revenue and expenses on TV.

It took you LED Lights, stadium upgrades, locker room upgrades, and googling the revenue to see the raw talent gap on the field?

Honestly man that game could've been played in a corn field and you could've seen how much better Georgia is than us.

We are talking about from your first post the "gulf" how much how that gulf goes right back to the massive differences in money spent on the programs? There is a direct correlation between revenue and budget and continued success on the football field. You have to be a relatively well off program to maintain success, you can be well off and not good but you can't be lower half in money and top half in success.

I never said there wasn't. I'm just flabbergasted that you continue to beat this drum given our on field product. You're out here just looking for arguments man.

I mean I was supporting you that there is a massive gulf between us and them. I was agreeing with you.

Ahh yes, it's Hokie Clubs fault we have don't have a coach who shows passion and celebrates with his team or can also put a decently disciplined product on the field. 5 or 6 false starts at home and a close win against Furman is all we should expect to afford.

We have a coach who shows passion and celebrates with his team. Whose fault is it that you don't know that?

Nothing like Kirby, which was the point. Please don't even try to make a comparison of the two in that regard.
And if the 2nd part is some kind of jab, I've been to >15 games, both home and away during the Fuente era. Haven't missed one on TV if I wasn't there in person.

I see we're doing a great job of keeping the discussion in the other games thread about the other games. Well done all.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I guess next week we need an Other Games MEH Thread. Or maybe we can just split off an entire MEH forum if it means I don't have to read negative comments in the same vein over and over and over again.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

In the of all this craziness today...anyone notice Miami beat Central Michigan 17-12?

Miami is plagued by playing up or down to their opposition.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Yes. Miami's defense is fast and pretty talented. Their offensive line is possibly the worst in the ACC and their QB is okay, but young and doesn't have a lot of wiggle in his running style. Not a good combination.

Miami will continue to struggle to score points via their offense sustaining drives in ACC play, unless the offensive line plays drastically improves. They will have to find ways to score via field position, special teams and defense. I think they are pretty overrated.

Lucky for Miami it was buried on a. Channel most of Florida and America don't get. But I did see this, notice the hashtag:

They hate us cause they ain't us.

This dude is such a fucking clown. My only hope is our O-Line buries him on the field when we play them.

Pimpleton should have never even been offered.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I don't like how shiny Notre Dame's helmets are to how dull their o-lineman's pants are. Like the Sun vs a gold crayon that's been balls deep in the ear of wax infested kindergartener.

Just curious.... Do they play defense in the PAC-12? UCLA vs WSU is 60-56 with 7:31 left in the game.

This is the most insane game ever. Up to 9 TD passes for the Wazzu QB now

This game is so fun. Also, may be my deliriousness contributing to how much I'm enjoying it lol

How the hell did Washington state blow a 49-17 3rd quarter lead?
Love,

Turnovers, bad defense, and crappy special teams

Holy shit! I missed a Pac12 after dark classic. I turned it off and went to bed because I thought it was surely over. How the hell did Kelly get that team to score 67 out of nowhere?

Because WSU kept throwing it and turning it over.
