Paging Fuente: Houston QB King to sit a year and transfer

From 247

We'll need a QB and this guy is basically Jerod Evans with speed upgrades. Also next years team is gonna be pretty stacked experience wise. Our offense could be pretty freakin dirty if we get him.

Not sure if this was totally serious or not, but no thank you. I want want want our own guys to work out and grow.

Lol dude who will be ready to start next year?

If QP isn't ready to start by year 3 in the program, I'm going to start by calling him Quincy Harris or Drew Patterson because he will never be ready to start for VT.

He was in the same Elite 11 camp as Trevor Lawrence IIRC and was turning heads.

The Dude Abides

If you compare every 4* and above quarterback with the expectation they should have the immediate success of Trevor Lawrence then you should prepare yourself to be disappointed a lot.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

I don't see how he is saying he should have immediate success like Trevor Lawrence. Seeing that it is year 3 and all for QP.

It's year 2....

Misread it was a reference to next year. Carry on.

Gobble Till You Wobble

However you want to put it I think it's a bit extra to start calling QP the next Drew Harris because hypothetically isn't ready to go by next year. I get the disappointment but we can tone down the drama a little bit.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

I mean I kinda see that but he wasn't an early enrollee was he? He's still only been around two falls and a spring. And still it's hard to envision him going from third string and below average passer to first string in less than a year.

It might be time to conclude the reason he got so much hype at Elite 11 was his size and strength rather than football IQ or passing ability. He's looked a lot more like a project so far than someone coming in ready to play

QP himself knew he was a "project" v ready to play. I don't know so many have expectations of him playing at this point. HH is the one that I was hoping would be ready.

He was in the same Elite 11 camp as Trevor Lawrence IIRC and was turning heads.

Trevor Lawrence was the 6th highest ranked recruit of all time. Quincy Patterson was the 25th highest ranked QB recruit... in 2018.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

lol. Nobody was ever comparing him to Lawrence. The elite 11 does not equate everyone is of the same calibre.

Dwayne Patterson??

Somehow I feel like we're still going to be a young team.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

I'll be interested to see if other guys take advantage of the rule like this

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

They were talking about it on the game. Holgersen has been trying to convince him to do it.

Makes me wonder if this is an issue in which:

1. Houston realizes they aren't going to be good this year, and thinks they are going to be much improved next year.

2. Eligibility issue

Either way, this is another way teams may start using the 4 game redshirt rule. Don't want to waste your star player on a bad team, and instead redshirt him so he can come back next year on a much improved team.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Don't want to waste your star player on a bad team, and instead redshirt him so he can come back next year on a much improved team.

I wouldn't expect this to be a common trend. Players with NFL prospects aren't going to sit out a season to extend their time in college.

Odd situation with him being a senior but all within his rights and the new rules.

Maybe they expect to be better next year and starting 1-3 this year, he may have said "fuck it, why not"

Look for him and the WR to find a team next season whose QB went to the draft.

KING TO SIT A YEAR AND TRANSFER

I really need to stop skimming titles.

Virginia Tech will already have it's selection of 3 dual threat QBs that have been with the program at least a year (QP, Hooker, and Burmeister).

Yep, I really hope one of those three will be ready to start next year.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I think it'll be Burmeister

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."
~*squints eyes in disbelief*

I'm okay with that. Sure, I'd love the QP Hype Train to leave the station next year, but if Burmiester is the best QB we have, play him and strap in for the ride.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Free agency is here. too bad

"I've got to go talk to Coach Holgorsen," D'Eriq told Berman. "It's not just me redshirting. It's a bunch of other guys as well."

4 games is too many. Look what we got here. According to D'Eriq a bunch of other players are ready to throw in the towel after playing the entire first third of the season and losing a few too many games. You can play a third of the season and just decide to red shirt? Unless you have a season ending injury, this isn't good for the game.

I just read an article on collegefootballnews.com about D'Eriq being the perfect fit at Oklahoma next year. This rule has opened up a one and done scenario just like basketball.

Quarterbacks are going to schools that have a system (Oklahoma, Missouri) that can highlight their skills for one year (Jerrod Evans). Hoping that it will increase their draft position. I know that they have to be out of HS for 3 years to enter the draft. I am just talking about players leaving their school of commitment (transfer portal, graduate transfer) and playing 1 year before going to the draft.

which is not at all like basketball exactly because of all the reasons you laid out. "one and done" has a pretty narrow definition in college basketball and this aint it

Jerrod sure felt like a one and done

Jerod also spent 3 4 years in college. Not quite 1 and done

EDIT: Make that 4 years: 1 year at Air Force (injured), 2 years at Trinity Valley CC, and 1 year at VT

He is returning to Houston next season according to his dad *wink* *wink*
