Dumb Question: How do I (know if I) joined the Hokie Club

I've made a handful of one time donations, but I'm trying to set up a reoccurring donations. My questions:

  • I have a DonorNet login - Does making a one time (or reoccurring donation) automatically make you a 'Hokie Club Member?'
  • How do I make my donation reoccur?

Follow up question:
What are my local reps supposed to? Do they help plan events, or help with actual fundraising, or what?

Did they give you the secret handshake?

Just kidding.

I think if you set up an account and give using that account, you're in. Their donor app leaves a lot to be desired in terms of giving you the warm fuzzies that you're in, though.

Do not respond with "Don't join!!!!!" Everyone can spend their dollar how they wish, but at this time, we need as much support for the other programs as anything. Hokie Club dollars don't just go to football. Good on you OP for joining.

I get how an initial reaction to all this would be "I'm not supporting this crap if thats what they're going to put on the field" but i really hope we don't bail on the program as a whole right now. Thats the crap we make fun of UVA for. We can't rail on them for not having people in the stands or supporting the program all these years and then immediately do it ourselves.

Agreed, and I get its a slippery slope. Just saying don't come in here and start s S-show thread of I'm never giving another dollar blah blah blah. I'm saying support the athletic dept as a whole. You can actually put your contributions to specific areas if you give to the Hokie Club...

Which is where better education from the Hokie Club would fill that. Normal donations to the Hokie Club are ONLY for student athletes scholarships.

Gotta admit, I'm more than a little impressed with your commitment and creativity.

If you're unsure. Just donate some more.

The more scholarships that are covered, the more funds we can put toward that buyout.

If you play it, they will win.

You get ignored for the most part unless you give a ton of money. Wish I was joking.

I give a lot less than you, I've never been ignored. I've had phone conversations with Hokie Club people from bottom to the top. They sent my girls a signed gold picture and Hokie golf shirts for them. Again plenty of issues with Hokie Club from education about its purpose, to lack of use of technology to outreach to grow. But they are mire than willing to speak to anyone.

If you donate at least $25, you are a member. The donation year goes until March 31st, I believe, so if you want to make sure you are getting credit for successive years of membership, you have until March 31 to get in another $25 to stay a member.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.
